Butterfly’s Journey to Health

Thank you Julie!

Yesterday was not such a good weight loss day. Meals were healthy but snacks were not. Snacks consisted of chips with 3 servings of guacamole, 2 muffins, and frozen yogurt with candy toppings. And no exercise either.

Weighed in this morning, gained 2.5 lbs in one week. L

I’ll try to get back on track today.

Okay, a bit of a rant and then a question if anyone cares to answer.

I think my hormones are out of whack. In 11 days, I gained 6.9 pounds. What the heck?!? Yes, it's been a crazy 11 days with too much food and lack of exercise but I didn't think it was 6.9 lbs worth of bad. So I decided to check my blood sugar and it was low. Was 82 in between breakfast and lunch, that's more like an overnight fasting number. Why do I keep ending up back at the same weight? It's like I lose and it just comes right back.

Okay, question. So I often eat these frozen tofu scrambles or tofu scramble burritos for lunch. I decided to take a closer look at the nutrition labels today and I wasn't too happy. Should I give these the boot? What would be a better lunch? I've posted the nutrition labels below:

I don´t think they look that bad, actually (although all those "organic"s make the label awfully hard to read). Certainly not a lot of calories if they fill you up enough to be a full meal. If that´s your only store-bought meal of the day I´m sure it´s fine to have. I don´t know a lot about blood sugar, but 6.9 lbs in 11 days is perfectly possible if you´ve been eating high-sodium foods (and that tends to be the case during crazy days). I´m guessing that two thirds of that is water weight. Try eating normal, healthy, lower sodium food for a couple of days and see how much that drops you. I can have a 4 kg (8.8 lbs) difference just from water retention.

Hi butterfly!

They look fine to me but if you are concerned about the salt, you could make the tofu scramble, it's pretty easy! I usually just mash up a pound of firm tofu in a pan with garlic powder, onion powder, and a little olive oil and salt.

It definitely sounds like a good portion of that would be water weight :) I always have the same issue whenever I've eaten a lot of salty foods (and noodles for some reason) and I can actually noticeably see the difference in my wrists for a few days afterwards :(

Exactly that! Dang water weight from high sodium food :D

Press your thumb firmly onto the skin on your forearm, notice the white mark left when you remove your thumb, the slower it takes for that part of skin to return back to normal (pink or whatever), the more water retention you have.

Don't let it get you down!
