Burlesque Babe

Thanks guys!!

Today's workout was quite hard. I did one less minute of fast work on the treadmill than usual cause it was just SO hard!! I did my normal on the elliptical but probably didn't push it quite as hard as I normally do though the calories were pretty close I think still.

However the fact is that I DID go, and I tried to push myself!!

Pretended to be a cook today! Ham and potato soup! Pretty good actually. Slightly salty so next time I wouldn't add any extra salt. Only around 400 calories and VERY filling!

I do worry a bit about my calorie count being low most days, I mean this has been todays food so far

Breakfast: Nothing (I rarely have time or appetite for breakfast in the morning)

Lunch: 3 mini pita sandwiches with tuna with some light mayo 280 calories

Snack: Cheese bun 160 calories

Supper: Soup 500 calories (website said just under 400 but to be on the safe side I rounded up to 500)

Total is 940 Calories

I do plan to have some grapes in about half an hour but that still only brings it up to 1040 calories approximately.

And yet when I was eating even just a bit more it seemed like I was not losing weight, or was even gaining! And this is with working out 5-6 days a week, hard core hour long cardio most days. I'm thinking about adding in a piece of 80 calorie toast with peanut butter for breakfast.

Well, listen to your body. It's probably a good idea to get at least 1200 in every day, you should still be able to lose weight at that level.

The soup looks pretty good. Though I think I already used my weeks allotment worth of potatoes up tonight.

I love breakfast, personally, but I often have the time to. It may be a good idea to have an easy to eat low cal snack like a piece of cheese or fruit before heading out to work. The 70 to 80 calories won't kill you and some folks believe it helps your metabolism to eat early (of course some folks say that's bull, so...) But, as always, do what you think will work for you. If you simply don't want to eat early, I doubt that's the end of the world.

Thanks. So I decided instead of my grapes I would do 2 toasts (80 calories each) with PB. That brings me up to about 1400. Hope I don't go up in weight tomorrow's weigh in!

I tend to look at my calorie deficit for the day (determined by activity level and exercise) rather than total calories... I know I lose best when I'm around a 600-900 calorie defict but can get away with a few 1000cal deficit days. Any more than that and my body says NO! Which is really frustrating, I can have a week that would be totally perfect to lose a whole kg (2.2lbs) and I'll be exactly the same.

What I'm trying to get at is- you might not be eating ENOUGH to have a loss. Just sayin.

Thanks for the reply. I did eat more today and got my calories to 1400. I have had terrible cravings and urges to eat after this last weekend! It's horrid. I ate a bit too much yesterday, and then today I ate 1400 which was a number I was happy with and was gonna stop. But I had some terrible cravings and ended up having a spoonful of peanut butter. And I am still having cravings. Tried gum and tic tacs to alleviate it and it hasn't helped. Gonna go to bed early I think so I don't eat any more!! I weighed quite a bit when I just weighed myself but I am hoping it's just from the heavy soup I ate and that I will sleep it off. Le sigh.

Wanted to add that I go back to riding my horse in 2 days and that should really help me. I will have a LOT less time to sit at home and be bored. Though my days will be CRAZY busy, which will make it a touch tougher to get my butt to the gym, it will make it easier not to get bored then want to eat. It will also burn some additional calories.

As I suspected I was up on the scales again this morning. :( Just crossing fingers it's water weight that will drop off quickly once I have a day or two or lower salt intake. Le sigh.

So I have decided that I REALLY need to only weigh in once a week. It makes me frustrated for the scale to bounce around so much during the week and yet if I look at weekly results, they are continuously going downward. Like, this was my once a week october weigh ins

October 2: 159.4 Dealt with a nasty cold this week which forced me to not workout, so I didn't lose the weight I could have. Still dealing with it but back to working out today

October 9: 158.6 (weighed in the morning after having a heavy restaurant meal the night before, weighed after work and I was 158.2)

October 16: 155.2

October 23: 154.6

October 30: 153

That's down 6.4 pounds in a month!! Which is pretty good!! I think I would get less annoyed because I wouldn't see the daily food fluctuations, I would just see the way the weight was trending (downwards or upwards). But it will take a lot of discipline not to step on the scale since I have been stepping on the scale more than once a day since starting this!! I think I will make friday mornings my weigh in day, as that will be about the farthest from any cheat meal, giving me the most accurate weigh in hopefully.

Had to switch up my workout today cause the only available treadmill was not working. I always have done treadmill first then bike or elliptical. So I had to hop on the elliptical first, then was planning to do the treadmill after, but of course they were all busy when I was done the elliptical so had to hope on the bike. Still got a good work out though not quite as good as treadmill/elliptical.

I made myself soup again which again was delicious. I was gonna make myself extra so I could freeze it for other days but I only had a very small amount of potatoes.

Right now my calories are

1120

I think I will have one 80 calorie toast with PB, then some grapes to finish off the day.

Keep it up girlie ! U are doing so well...

cheers,

Maryann

I weigh myself everyday only because I'm obsessive and can't help myself. However, I also am a stats guy and so I can mess with my numbers and get a pretty good idea of the overall trend of things even if they bounce around a little. So that's how I deal with the gain days.

You're right though in that there's no real need to weigh yourself every day, and there probably is some harm if the gain days drive you nuts.

Thank guys!

It was really hard not to weigh myself this morning (and last night!) but I forced myself not to! Yay!

Made myself sloppy joes last night for lunch today! Really good. Then made myself Peanut Sauce Noodles!

Pretty good actually! Go me and my pretend cooking skills!

Still have some calories left so will probably have some grapes and maybe toast with PB.

Cooking skills improve considerably the more you work at them. It's either learn how to cook, or leave yourself at the mercy of restaurants and diners. The latter makes weight loss (and maintenance actually) much more difficult. It can however, be more difficult cooking for one than for multiple people.

Yes it's been quite difficult cooking for one! Every recipe is for 6+ people and it's hard to break that down!! I do want to make more now so I can freeze portions so I can just warm them up for supper on busy days, however I wanted to make the meals once before making more so I knew they would turn out ok and be tasty!! Gotta buy a few more groceries then I can make some to freeze!

Yea most things I make are single serve (sweet stuff anyway!) I actually prefer it that way though because then I know exactly how much I can eat, and I can't go back for leftovers later. If I do pasta or something, I will cook up the whole packet and divide it up into the servings before topping it or anything so I can eat one and freeze the rest. Usually don't have that problem though as my husband eats most dinner things I cook!

MR, I taught myself to cook just from watching a few cooking shows and getting The Joy of Cooking. That one book should have enough recipes to keep you going for a long time - granted, they're not all healthy, but you can tell what's good and what isn't. I don't specifically know of any "healthy" equivalents, but they must be out there.

The bolded part is one of the reasons I have kept it to single servings yet as well! Not even so much going BACK for left overs but "accidentally" giving myself more than the appropriate serving. But I think I will be fine as long as I portion it out and pop it in the freezer right away.

Thanks guys. My meals have actually tasted quite good which I am excited for!

So today at work was super easy but it sucked cause everything was so spread out! Worked 8-9 had nothing till 10, worked 10-11, had nothing till 12, worked 12-1, (I would normally be able to leave without any more dogs to do) then someone was supposed to be coming in before 3 for a nail trim which costs 15 bucks (My front staff should not have said I would be there till 3 with how easy my day was but they did). So I waited 2 HOURS doing nothing for a 15 buck 5 minute job. It NEVER showed so I waited 2 hours for no reason.

Today was my first day back riding and it was great. It was an easier ride to get us both back into it. It's gonna be a good way to get me out and moving an extra bit during the day, though it does make things busy. Today leaving work at 3 means I got home at around 5:30. When we are busier I would only leave at 4 (possibly 5 some days) which means only getting home at 6:30-7 (and that's days I am not taking lessons, lessons take longer and I can't always get them right after work), then to work out for an hour with some time to get ready in between riding and working out means I am not back in my apartment till 7:45-8:15 and then yet to make supper and eat it after that.

Anyways, but I ran farther than I ever have yet. I ran 2.57miles today and the farthest I ran before that was 2.46 miles. I cut my intervals down to 4run 1 walk so I could bump my speed up from 5 to 5.5 with my 3 minutes of 6.5 at the end.

Had a taco for supper today. Right now I am at 1100 calories so gotta add a few more calories in.

Nervous about my weigh in tomorrow! I haven't weighed myself since tuesday morning I believe and I was up then, really don't want to be the same or UP from there!! Ahh!

MR, here's a bunch of easy recipes that are healthy:

http://www.zonya.com/healthy_recipes.html

I like the Baked Lentil recipe a lot, you can do a lot with it in terms of spices, etc. Last night I made a half-batch of it, replacing the chicken stock with beef stock, white wine with red, and the basil, oregano and thyme with just cumin. And I used monterey jack instead of swiss - it was excellent. But you can dump in a bunch of veggies, too, or some chicken. You can also make a "pizza" from it.

Note: the rice and beans really will absorb all that liquid, don't be frightened by the huge amount of liquid!

Enjoy!
