The key here is that you consciously thought "your gonna be pissed at yourself later for this". That is the key. It makes you stop and refocus yourself. Better than just stuffing your face and not thinking about anything but how good it tastes. You are making progress my friend. Eventually you don't have to refocus yourself as it is just there all the time. It does get easier to resist temptation- well it isn't easy but it gets easier-lol.

I was that guy too once. I went to McDonalds in my younger days and regularly ate an extra large Big Mac meal with two extra cheeseburgers and that was before supper. Now I am SPLITTING an egg Mcmuffin no cheese and no butter with my wife at Breakfast time-LMAO. I didn't think that I would ever get to where I am but I did and so can you. Pat yourself on the back - you deserve it!

In my younger days Mrs Brawny and I would go out to eat. She would ask "Do you want to get one thing and split it?" I would look at her like she was crazy. I would order my own thing, eat it all, then eat what she didn't finish of hers

Yeah I did that too. I used to hope she ordered something I liked so I could help her eat it too-lol.

63 minutes of walking is awesome. Walking is just as good as running for exercise. Less strain on your joints too.

Gather round kiddies....It is time for story time with Uncle Brawny:

This is a story about time. Time is gonna pass. We cannot stop it. We cannot slow it down.
What we can do it make the most of it. How much time have I let slip by without doing positive things about my weight, my fitness, my health, my relationships?
How many days have I let myself off the hook on eating or exercise for a hundred different reasons? Its cold, Its hot, Its late, Im tired, I will start tomorrow... and time keeps on slipping away. I have been about 90-95% on task now since Aug 22. That's a measly 58 days. And yet in that amount of time (which was going to pass anyway) I have lost 18lbs and tripled my exercise stamina. In only 58 days! I don't want to look back because that makes me angry with myself for all the time I have wasted. I find it better to look forward. If I do this for 58 more days I will be over 30lb lost and maybe close to 40. And that time is gonna pass whether I take advantage of it or not. How much exponentially better would it be if I take advantage of it?
So the moral of this story kiddies is to use the time you have been given for good. Don't piss it away (sorry don't tell your mamas that uncle brawny used the word piss). Now go out and use the day you have been given. There is no guarantee that you will get tomorrow.

Ok that concludes story time with Uncle Brawny. Next time maybe I will teach you how to blow smoke rings with a cigar!

Good story Uncle Brawny. And it is non fiction too-even better. I agree with everything in the story. I WOULD like to learn how to blow smoke rings with a cigar though-lol.

& that is fantastic. It's always best to look to the future & you are going great brawny. You made me laugh with the cigar/smoke rings. Back in another lifetime I used to smoke the occasional cigar :sifone: I don't want to even imagine doing it now!:sifone:

Ive let myself off the hook most of my life.... Not this time! Im always motivated reading your diary and Im looking forward to see what you do with the next 58 days

Cowboy- the smoke ring trick I learned in college. great for poker games
LaMa- your mother was wise
Cate- I have few vices left The occasional cigar is one of them
Katy- let's keep this motivation going!

Trudging along
End of day report
Walked 66 minutes 3.4 miles
Ate 1650 calories
Tiny victory- I successfully navigated through a free business lunch today. I ate the salad and the chicken breast and the carrots but I skipped the cheesy potatoes and the rolls and the dessert. I figure I ate about 400 calories instead of what could have easily been 1200 or even more. Didn't even have to summon super human will to do it...I just looked over the spread and did a quick calculation of what I could eat that would keep me below 500 calories. I did think the potatoes looked good but I thought damn there are a lot of calories swimming in that buttery cheese sauce. So I let them be....Curse you cheesy potatoes! Tempt me not!

How can you skip cheesy potatoes?! That's a favorite dish in our household. Sometimes we eat JUST that for meals. Feel free to be disgusted, I know how horrible it is for me.

Well done on skipping the cheesy potatoes Brawny. That there is a sure sign that you are becoming more & more motivated.
