Feelinggooderererer- Yep Dr. Brawny will sound good. Growing up I thought a phd was a post hole digger and I spent a lot of quality time with one. To answer your Q about rural school safety my angle is that very little research has been done on it. it is all on urban schools... I am surveying rural school supts and rural law enforcement officers...bored you yet?


Well.....I did me a nice long stretch this morning and rode that bike like it was nobodys business...just when I was about to fade that old foo fighters song "pretender" came on and I kicked it in for a hard sprint...did almost 8 miles....my legs are a bit sore but its good sore not injured sore (technical athletical terms)


Weigh in #3 in la manana. (spanish term) Has it been 3 weeks? I do belive it has. You know this time is gonna pass might as well make it count. The longer I stay pretty close to plan the less pissed I am at myself for past failures.


I just might be opening a can of whup ass (redneck term) this time.


I may get a chance to post later today but if I dont Everybody have a great weekend! (general feel good term)
 
Brawny, thinking on your rural school safety thing, in Alaska there have been several devistating shootings at schools where kids with chips on their shoulders bring guns to school and kill people, other kids, in Nome a kid shot the principal and killed him. Just something to think of, there are huge safety issues with guns at school in bush Alaska because of the hunting and subsistance lifestyles of the communities and the fact that a lot of the communities have little or no police presense. In some communities they use a program called the Village Public Safety Officer Program and they are not even allowed to carry firearms on the job so its like just them against a village armed better then a militia in some instances.
 
Very cool thesis, and not boring in the least. I grew up in a rural setting and the safety concerns were definitely different from the urban schools. I would guess that a lot of it comes down to the specific region of the country and a number of external influences including proximity to urban centres (increased flow of dangerous substances), avg household income (increased cash available) and a host of other factors such as how many churches are in the area. Definitely a lot of ground to cover especially if the topic hasn't received much attention to date.


Actually finished reading through your previous entries back to 2009 today. Fantastic to have access to a long term journal to be able to go back and visit it after the fact and see the differences in attitude throughout.

AHeya Brawny! Nice job with the cycling... I remember cycling through the snow here last winter and it was awesome! It would make me cycle extra fast... it's amazing how much of an impact music has on exercise. I think there is so much to be said for a good work-out mix! Good on ya. Love your use of technical athletic terms ;)

So have you opened a can of whup ass yet? Waht's the verdict? :)
 
My can of whup ass was a small one...lost 3lb last week


I know, I know...thats good but in days of yesteryear when I had this huge furnace of a metaboloism I would have lost 6 or 7 with the diet and exercise that I have been doing.

Sigh

So gonna reach into my bag of tricks and modify a bit.

New mini goal.....drum roll.....275 by my Dr. visit on Jan 31. What that like 8 or 9 days? 4lb in 8 days is doable if I get laser beam focused.


Heres my plan

1.Ramp up my exercise a modest amount but not enough to get an injury

2.Ramp up my daily activity (make that recliner at home dusty and get out of the office chair more)

3.Get really really focused on what I eat. I have been about 90% compliant on diet for 3 weeks. I want 99% for the next week.


Those tweaks to my plan should get me the loss I want. I must be totally on-guard.

If I fall off the wagon now I know my body will totally suck up every stray calorie and turn it into flab.

I have ordered a bigger can of whup ass and Im gonna open it next tuesday at the Dr.

Best way to fire up the old metabolism, build muscle. And then use said muscle for lifting heavy stuff.
 
Yep you are right old school....I used to eat barbells for breakfast back in my college football days and even when I was a young coach. I do see some strength training in my future. My sons will both be playing High school football next year so I want to be at a point by summer where I could work out with them.


About to head home. Have been absolutely perfect today with my eating. Also I walked the entire district today, every hall of every school. It was a good thing.


Now if I can fight through the dreaded evening munchie attacks.....

Thinking a push up month might be in our future. Managed to squeak out 50 pushups in groups of 5 or 10 over the weekend, by Sunday my daughter was giving me a hand by sitting on my back for a few and thought it was a wonderful game.
 
FG- I have this old picture of me at about age 25 , fit as hell doing push ups with my 5 year old nephew on my back. Today he's a Sgt. in the Air Force and beastly fit. He could probably do push ups with me on his back!



Okay sports fans...2 mini victories to report......yep 2...not 0 and not 1 but..2!


#1 I went to the grocery store last night, just me, Afterward I was really tempted to do as I have done so many times and hit a drive thru window on the way home....I fought it off!! It was more a habit than hunger because I had eaten a turkey burger before I went. For me this was a major behavioral adjustment. No one would have known. I coulda cheated...but I didnt.


#2 Ate and exercised 100% according to plan yesterday. As of today I have exercised 19 out of 24 days, and have had no fast food since December 31.


Can I get a Hell Yeah?

Yeah, I think I still have a picture of me back in college days holding my brother in one hand and cousin in the other upside down by a leg each. Today that cousin is massive and strong and could probably do the same to me. Scary...


Great job on sticking to plan yesterday and getting another day of exercise in. You must be getting close to your monthly biking record from back in 2009 by this point
 
I have done 135 miles so far this month...I got 200 once in 09 . I might make 170 or so this month so Im not too far off.


Time for a rant:

Ok so I get this just add water noodle soup thing. I glanced at it this morning and it said 220 calories. Thats about what the turkey sandwich I have been having is so I grab it and put in my lunch with a banana and 2 little oranges. Then when I get ready to heat it up it says that it has 2 servings per bowl. Who the hell eats half a microwave bowl of soup? 440 instaed of 220....Thats gonna cost me that bag of corn nuts I was gonna have about 3 oclock today. I didn have time to make my Turkey sandwich cause I was on my stinkin bike!


If I could get my hands on the dude that said that that was 2 servings......Grrrrrrr

Sneaky packaging is really annoying... some people are really creative in cramming multiple servings in a single package. I'm looking at the side of a coke bottle right now and checking the numbers on my calculator reveals that it has 2.84 servings per bottle. Perfect for sharing with 1.84 of your friends....

I set 3 goals

Stay at calorie target (duh)

Stretch 2 days a week (I am really really unflexible)

Exercise at least 4 days a week.
 
I set three goals also, drink 6 glasses of water a day, walk 14 miles a week and strength train 3X a week, also a yellow. My user name is Alenahope.
 
Looks cool, have signed up but not sure I'll follow through on updating progress.


Nice interface and ability to set goals on there. It looks like the reporting might take a little more effort than I'm willing to put into tracking progress on another site.


Also, when I started inputting a fourth rule and saw the $5 donation suggestion it was a huge deal breaker for me...
 
Bad night last night. I had to stay up late and wait for my son's basketball team to get back from a road game. So what did I do? Major nibbling. I went over my calories by like 600 or maybe a bit more.

Then...to add insult to injury...this morning we had no water (line broke down the road) So I couldnt exercise because I couldnt shower and that just sucks.

I need to think this over because this is a typical set back or two that could derail my program....I just gotta gotta gotta push through this nasty rainy day. So far my eating today is perfect but I gotta get some exercise in. Hopefully water will be fixed very soon.

Good to focus on today's activities instead of last night's and great work sticking to your eating today. Sucks that the water is out right now, might be a chance to go for a long walk instead of the usual biking to keep from getting excessively sweaty... that is unless it's 90 some odd degrees in Texas today (no no, not jealous at all... we're almost above freezing today :santa:)
 
Oh just get sweaty, the only people you'll offend are....everybody. Lol! Hey, maybe it'll rain later and you can go streaking.
