br!na's weightloss diary

My weigh in this morning was 184.8. So I've done okay at maintaining my weight during my break. Gained a couple of pounds, but hopefully I will be back down in no time!
I'm so close to the 170s. I've been close since Dec though. I've had two months with no weightloss. And its my fault. I keep thinking about where I would be now if I hadn't fallen off the wagon for those 2 months. But there's nothing I can do about it now. All I can do is get up and start over! In the past, when I would lose motivation, I would give up all together and just go back to my old habits, telling myself I just couldn't do it. This time... I messed up... So what, we all slip. But I'm not giving up. I'm getting my mojo back and getting back in the game! :) I'm proud of myself for that!
Today I went to the gym. My momma actually went with me, which was nice! I did 30 min on the treadmill at 3.5 mph, 1.66 miles. And 20 minutes on the bike 4.1 miles. So I did almost 5 miles today! :) now I've gotta do my ab workouts. And then I will do a 20 min zumba class tonight. Probably after dinner!
I'm really hoping to hit the 170s in the next month or so!

Well... Todays weigh in is frustrating. 185.4. I don't understand. But I won't let it get me down too bad! Back to the gym today! Gotta keep going towards my next goal... Even when it gets hard! :)

Well... I did my ab workouts. 25 min on the treadmill, and 20 on the arc trainer. Now I'm gonna have some lunch and rest. Then later I will do some zumba and maybe more ab workouts.

Hey, quick question for you guys. I was doing crunches on the floor before. But that kills my back. So I started using an ab roller. Where you still lay on your back, but push yourself up by the top bar or side bars. its takes the tension off my back and neck. Anyways... Now when I do my crunches, my ribs burn. They feel like they are literally on fire. and feel like they are breaking. I have a really hard time getting in the full 100. I have to take longer and longer breaks between my sets. Has anyone else had that problem? And do you know what causes it?

Oh btw... We found out what my best friend is having yesterday... It's a GIRL!! Another little girl! :) we are very excited! She's leaning towards Serenity Jade for the name. I like it! Can't wait to be an auntie again!

You are doing great! A little set back, but it's good you are not letting that stop you from pushing forward. I'm no help on the ab issues you are having but hopefully it gets better.

I like the name for the girl :)

I'm guessing that the ab roller has handles that you grip at or above your shoulder? That is letting you pull down with your arms and engage muscles in your upper torso instead of using mostly your ab muscles. If regular crunches hurt your neck then you were most likely using your arms then too.

Marine crunches would solve the neck pain problem, but possible not the back.

You can still use your ab roller or do regular crunches without pain if you stop engaging your arms. Just rest your hands on the roller or your head. A crunch isn't you using your arms to fold yourself up. It's contracting your ab muscles to pull yourself into a fold. You will likely find yourself able to do fewer of them at first, but that's because you aren't combining your arm and ab muscles for the crunch.

Thanks Icy! It feels good to be back in it. I have to say, I felt horrible those two months. So, its really good to be eating right and working out again! :)

Thanks for the suggestions Quercus! I do use my arms to pull myself up. So, i guess you're right! :) I will try it your way and see hoe that goes! :)

My weight in this morning was 185.0. But, TOM struck this morning. So now I understand why my weight is up! I just gotta push through the next week and hopefully it will drop back down. :)

Well... I didn't make it to the gym today. Cramps and a migraine kept me from doing anything. So I mainly just stayed on the couch today. So, I guess I will count today as a rest day. Lol me and my momma plan on going back to the gym tomorrow! :)

On a good note, I had a 2 1/2 hour phone conversation with my bff! I miss her so much now that she doesnt live with us! So its good to just talk and talk about anything and everything for a while. We went over baby shower plans! I'm gonna do pink and black animal prints as the theme. And since reading is a big thing with both of us, instead of a card, I will request that everyone bring a children's book. That way, her 3 yr old won't feel left out. she loves books. and once serenity gets older they can share them!

My godson will be one in Feb. I'm so excited! He almost died 3 times in the first 6 months of his life. so we are happy that he's made it to a year old! And hes healthy and happy now! When I did the baby shower for his mom, I had everyone fill out a paper with their wishes for him and his life on it. I still have all of the papers. So for his first birthday, I am making him a scrap book. It will have those papers in it and pictures from his first year with him and all of his family! I'm super excited about it. I know, he wont know what it is right now. It's mainly for his mom at this point. But she can give it to him when he's older! :)

I love my godchildren so much!! I would do absolutely anything for them!! :) and I'm so glad my godson survived everything that happened to him. And my goddaughter is a beautiful little ginger! And trust me, we can all tell it. Lol she's a mean little thing with a big temper!! She was actually born on mine and my wifes anniversary! :) View attachment 21676 this is them! Aren't they adorable?!

Okay, I'm done rambling for now! :) I hope everyone had a good day!

TOM is over! Woo-hoo! And I'm back down a little. 184.2 this morning. Went to the gym first thing this morning and worked up a sweat! :)

It snowed the other day. We got about 5 in. And its snowing again today. :( I don't like winter. The snow is pretty until i have to get out in it. Lol

So I'm pretty much gonna stay in my warm house. Hope you guys are staying safe and warm!

Hey Br!na cute kiddos! It's been raining here, but it's supposed to drop into the 20s tonight so driving may be iffy in the morning. I'm with you on the snow. It's great if you can sit in a warm house with coffee and a blanket, but going anywhere or doing anything stinks.

Quercus- I'm with you! Coffee and a blanket sounds like a perfect day! :) I hope things didn't get too bad where you are! It's still snowing here. Roads aren't bad though. Luckily they are keeping them clear.
Pamela- thanks! It's good to know I can motivate others!

I'm a little frustrated today. I've been back into my routine for a while now, and I'm still stuck. I go between 184 and 185. This morning I was 184.4. I don't know what the problem is. And its really upsetting me. If I could get a jumpstart and break through this wall, I think I would be okay. I've been stuck here for months now, and its really getting to me. I'm worried it could be my new meds. A side effect is weight gain. And maybe all the work im doing is just maintaining the weight I'm at. Which would suck!

*deep breath* I'm heading back to the gym today. Just waiting for my momma to get off work because she wants to go with me! So, wish me luck on burning off this fat! :)

Made it to the gym again today! :) me, my mom, my wife and my sister! It's fun when we all go!
Also, I got my niece and godchildren for the weekend! It was a surprise visit! And I'm happy about it. Little G-Man is teething, so he's a little fussy. But its fine. Any time spent with them is pure joy for me!!

They all had brownies for dessert. And we went ahead and gave them their Valentine's day gifts! Now the two little girls and FD are sleeping on an air mattress in the living room. They wanted a "sleepover" in there. Which I'm fine with since we have that mattress. Too cold to sleep on the floor. And all of them won't fit on the couch. But they think that air mattress is the best thing ever. Lol. Little G-Man is passed out in the pack and play in our room.
As of right now, I'm just relaxing in bed watching True Blood. (I love this show! Own all the seasons that are out! Can't wait for season six to be on dvd!) The wife is asleep because she has a 12 hour shift tomorrow.

The gym is closed tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure these kids will keep me running all day! Which will count for some kind of exercise, right? Lol

Good night folks! Time to get some rest in case the baby wakes up through the nighy! Hope you guys are having lots of success!!

The scale can be very irritating for sure! I got down to the 195’s before going all the way back up to the 199’s again. Now I’m in the 197’s. Why oh why can’t I get to the 180’s? Ugh! Just keep closely monitoring things and mix things up if you think it’ll help. Hopefully it’s not the meds since they seem to be working well for you. So good to see you posting again. :)

Thanks Mandy! I actually thought about changing up my workouts to see if that would help. I bought a couple of the biggest loser workout dvds. I'm gonna try them today! I'm super excited about them. My weight is still the same. So I'm hoping these new workouts will help me break through the wall! :)

Happy Valentines day everyone! I hope you are enjoying it, but staying away from those yummy little chocolates! My Valentines isn't so happy. Yesterday, my beloved dog, Cukiee, passed away. :'( she was my one year anniversary present from wifey. She would have been 7 yrs old this June. We don't know what happened. Wednesday she was fine. Running around, playing, her usual happy self!! Then yesterday morning, we woke up and she was gone. She passed without warning. Which makes me take it even harder, if that's possible. I wish I knew what happened. She was my babygirl. And I'm going to miss her sooo much! I'm completely heart broken.
I will post a pic of her. She was a cheagle. Chihuahua/beagle mix. And she was absolutely gorgeous!! I don't know what I'm going to do without her. :'(View attachment 21783

Thanks Quercus! She was, she really was! :)
Things still aren't changing around here. My weight is the same. Which is even more frustrating. I've actually thought about going to see my doctor about prescription diet pills. Is that horrible? And have any of you guys ever taken or heard about them? I don't know much, except I meet the requirements for them. I just really need the help. I'm doing everything I did before, but this time, the weight isn't moving. I've even tried changing things up with my workouts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I did the fen-phen (fenfluramine/phentermine) prescription in the 90's. I quit doing it because it made me a zombie and I just quit eating. They pulled it off the market not long after that because it was killing people. I got down to my lowest weight as an adult, but I lost muscle, didn't learn any healthy habits, and was my heaviest within a couple years of using it. Even if it hadn't turned out to be so dangerous, it wouldn't have been worth.

I would never take diet pills again. I suppose I am much more mature and could take the pills with a solid plan of diet and exercise to make it easier, but I don't think they have much to offer when compared to the side-effects and risks. I haven't talked about what's available with a doctor since I am not interested, but I assume if there were marked improvements that there would be a lot of buzz about it.

If you decide to look into it be sure to discuss side-effects with your doctor. You can also post or PM a specific drug that you are interested in and I can find the clinical data that shows what results it gets compared to a control.

Orilstat or Alli for example:

This article has the very positive sounding conclusion quoted below.

"Conclusions Two-year treatment with orlistat plus diet significantly promotes weight loss, lessens weight regain, and improves some obesity-related disease risk factors."

So for 2 years they had people take this drug and the only group that lost weight and kept it off were the people sticking with diet and exercise. So the pills without diet and exercise made no weightloss. The pills plus diet and exercise made a difference less than 5 pounds over 2 years. That's less than .05 pounds a week for the best results.

"Despite the expertise of these investigators, all treatment groups except the diet plus exercise intervention relapsed to initial weight by the end of year 2. Moreover, the diet plus exercise group maintained only a small amount of weight loss (<2.5 kg) over 2 years."

My point is that just because a drug shows "significant" effect clinically doesn't mean it's worth the risks or money.

Thanks Quercus! I'm not looking for a miracle drug! I wouldn't want anything that supposedly makes me lose weight without doing anything. I still want to watch what I eat, drink lots of water and go to the gym on a regular basis! I enjoy those things, and I feel better when doing them! I just need something to give me a little boost. Just something to help out while I'm doing the work, but at this point not showing the results.
It was just something I thought about talking to my Dr about. Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it! :)
