Hi Kimberly
I am so sorry that your throat is so bad. I swear that our NHS doctors always, always, always seem to write out a prescription for amoxycillin for that type of thing. You walk in to the quack's and you know fine well what she/he is going to write on the prescription. The stupid thing is that the stuff is dirt cheap wholesale but you need a prescription to get it over here. I am sorry that it looks like it will cost you to get it.
It doesnt cost us much (about £7 which is a set fee for any prescribed drugs so they make a profit on amoxycillin) - but we do have to pay our (mandatory) national insurance contributions which is effectively an extra tax. We pay about 10% of salary and employers pay about the same. A lot of people pay extra for private health insurance but we dont because it is expensive.
It sounds really good news that you will get covered by your hubby's health insurance in the future.
I hope that you are feeling much better very soon.
Take care
Love
Margaret
