Big-John's Diary

Wooo Hoo had a phone call from Argos and the cross trainer will be here Wednesday. Also I've dropped another pounds so the walking and the diet are certainly paying off at the moment. Also I have gone back to my previous noth on my belt I was a year ago.

What A Great Day !!

Great work bigjohn! Having that elliptical comming in must have you so excited. I'm so jealous. Keep those pounds dropping, but know that I'm gonna try and catch up to ya. I'm only 17 pounds behind :)

Hi Big John, thanks for stopping by at my journal. Glad to see that you are getting your delivery from Argos on Wednesday. Hope you enjoy it. Am thinking of getting a bike myself, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week if I can, and they have a pool where I go swimming as well, but I find that I get so bored in the gym that I can't summon up the energy to put much effort into it. I used to really enjoy cycling. I did about 60 miles a week (a very long time ago). I have now finished my nights, and am now feeling more human, and less like a bear with a sore head. Where I work, night shifts are just as busy as day shifts, and there is not much chance of a skiving off for a sleep. Keep up the good work.

On comaparison I have 112lb to loose and looking at your ticker you have 110 lb to loose in total. With me at only 17lb lost at the moment and you having 32lb lost your'e slightly in the lead. Don't worry, It won't take me long to catch up.

Yep, can't wait till Wednesday. Although I still want to do a little research on getting the best perfomance out of the cross trainer. I'd love to go to the gym. But working stupid shift patterns and having the little guy to look after life can be busy. That's one reason I brought it so I could save time in my schedule so I could fit a couple of workouts in a day.

I used to work nights they did used to be quite slack but things have changed a year or so ago. Soon as I get in to work whatever time of day its 100% non stop. Also do most weekends which is part of my contract also. Like I say fitting everything in is difficult be just manageable.

Keep up the good work also.

Feel Pooh Today.

Hit a kind of a brick wall today and feel like pooh. I know I said that I was going to weigh myself once a week turned into every day. I actually put on a pound the other day and it hasn't gone back down yet. Feel like I'm at a low point not just with the weight but with family life also. Didn't realise before having kids how much they change your life and how much different the wife changes. But appart from all that deep and heavy stuff I'm still carrying on walking and eating healthily as before. Nothing is going to stop me getting where I want to be !

Hi John

Just wanted to pass by and say hi to a fellow Brit, hope that you are feeling a bit more full of beans today. Isn't it today when you take delivery of your new cross-trainer? How exciting, have fun and I look forward to hearing how it is going!

Thanks UKNewbie,

The cross trainer has arrived and there looks like there's a fair bit to put together. I'm probably going to cut my 8 mile walk today and probably just do 4 or 5 if I can get the time.

As for fellow Brits on the site there are quite a few. There is a thread around somewhere just for all the Brits to say hello.

I weighed myself today and gone down another 2lb so feeling good about that. Missus is doing my head in at the moment but don't they just :willy_nilly:. But still here and still maintaining momentum on the weight loss.

Well,

The cross trainer took me quite a while to put together. But it's alll up and running. Haven't really had time to test it out as the little-un has been such a handfull. Din't walk too much either yesterday so not really a productive day. But some exersize is better than no exersize I say. Every little helps.

I've actually used the cross trainer today. Only got to 10 mins on a high intensity program. Boy I never knew how much I was unfit and how much sweat I'd produce. I think I'm going to keep on 10 mins for a week or so then slowly build myself up after I've got used to it a little bit more. Muscles certainly felt like they were burning and when I did finish they felt a little like jelly. Oh well of to work in a minute and see how more active I can be today.

Things have been a little hectic at work the past couple of days and so is family life. Not really haven't had the motivation to do anything although since my last weigh in i have lost another 3lb and it's not even monday yet.

I had another quick go on the cross trainer but it feels quite strange at the moment. Don't know if it's set right acording to my height as I always seem to be bending down. Will have to do a little bit of research there as the manual isn't perfect but the machine feels adequate for what i need.

Friday (Today) is always a busy day but i'm going to at least do a 4 mile walk if I can sometime today. Oh well better be off to much to do.

Keep at it Big John! I feel way too tall on a lot of those elliptical trainers too. I have to slouch my shoulders to hold onto the handles. I found out though, that if you do it with no hands you burn extra calories. Without the support from the handles, your core is forced to work harder. So if you run without handles it builds your abs and you dont have to bend over. Look forward to seeing your progress. I jumped on the scale last night for a quick preview and am VERY pleased. :sifone:

Thanks Bud. Where do you actually stand in regarding to the eliptical. Closer to the display or further away from it. Something just dosent feel comftable maybe I just need to get used to it. Not sure.
Would love to do half an hour then a quick burst on high intesity but feel some much mussle tension on the back of my legs.

I'm pretty much restrained to the only spot I can go. My shoes are size 17 US... so they pretty much fill up the foot holders. I find though that if I lean forward I'm able to pick up my pace. When I lean back my strides per minute usually lower significantly. My usual routine on the elliptical is 30min. I bunch it into 5min groupings. Four min at a steady but fast pace, then one minute REALLY fast... spinning like its a bicycle. Then back to 4 minutes of regular speed again. Don't know if they're all the same, but on the Precor machines i do 150-180 strides per min for the 4, and 210-230 on the 1.

My wife has always said one day she's chop my balls off. Everytime i loose 3lb I have to check they are still there. :rotflmao:

No but seriously, It's good news but I do go up aswell just hope it stays off.

Well if your balls weigh 3lb you can expect it to take some time getting your balance on the cross trainer:D
