Best Shape Ever for 40th

As the title says, my goal is to be in the best shape of my adult life. I'm only counting from college on, I don't want to be unrealistic. I've been in pretty good shape many times along the way. In my late 20's I lifted a lot and bulked up. But even then, I had a little bit of a gut. After getting married, having my 1st child and building a house all in the same year, I went up to 240 Lbs.. That was about 8 years ago. 3 years ago I lost that and came down to 185, I'm now back to 200. I'm stopping it here and will return to 185. This time I want the 185 to include more muscle mass though. I don't want to bulk up at all. I already have a big frame for my size at 5'-10". I want to lose weight and tone.
I started this a couple of weeks ago and I seem to be doing pretty well. I was at 204, now 200 and I'm back to exercising. I play hockey every Wednesday and yoga on Monday nights. Don't laugh at the yoga, It's a power yoga class for 1 1/2 hours and it's probably the most strenuous workout I've ever done. The yoga is the only strength training I'm going to do, my muscles are sore the next few days, so I know it's working. Other than that, I will try to hit the treadmill a few times a week. With 4 kids, 8,6,5, and 1, it's hard to find time. But, if I wait til they are in bed I can go to the basement and walk/run. That sounds easy, but it's easier to sit down and watch The Biggest Loser. That's were I need this, and you, to remind me to keep doing it.
Eating - Love pizza, can't eat it. I lost the weight before on a strict low carb diet. I don't intend to be strict, but I am definitely going to cut out bad carbs and increase protein. If I only eat small, only when I'm hungry, I think it will work. I turn 40 March 14, 2008. I can do this. A six-pack would be great. I've never had one, not even in HS playing football. Thanks for reading and I would love to hear from you with advice or anything. I am going to read around and visit some of you.
thanks again,

Hi there Fitby4T,

welcome to your diary! :D First off, your avi is absolutely adorable. Your children are just too cute. Congrats to you for joining the forum in the first place. If you haven't already, take a few minutes to read the stickied threads to get even more information during your weight loss journey. Also, drop into a few diaries to make a few friends. Have you figured out your meal/ workout plan? Anyways, good luck to you and I hope you find the support and motivation you're looking for here at the forum.

O.K. -Second day here. I ate really well. A breakfast bar for Breakfast, South Beach Supreme Pizza for lunch (they're really good BTW). I picked up a rostiserie turkey breast for the kids on my way home and made turkey salad with the rest. I use real mayo, I hate that low cal stuff, but I didn't use to much and put in a few apple pieces. I didn't end up exercising at all though. After putting the kids into bed, I was tired too and just went to sleep at 8:30. It's 1am right now, I just got a call from work (they'll pay for that), but I 'm going right back to bed.

Hey you,

just dropping in to see how your day went. I was wondering if you figured out your BMR and whatnot. Also, are you tracking calories via a calorie counter? I was curious, because to be honest, you may be dipping lower than need be. Hell, what's better than losing weight and actually getting to really eat, right? hahaa Before coming to the forum, I didn't even realize I was eating much less than I should have been. (~500-600 calories less) Anywho, wishing you a great day, M! Congrats with the 4 down! :D

Hi Sheryl,
You said BMR, did you mean BMI? If BMR, what is it? If BMI, I don't like that thing. When I plug in my stats, it places me at borderline obese. I'm not even close to that. Even if I put in my gaol wt of 185 it says overweight and I know that's not true. I have a scale at home that reads % Body fat that I tried this morning and it said 19.8%. I take that with a grain of salt to but I will use it as a base to compare as I go on. As far as eating, I probably didn't eat what I could have calorie wise yesterday but it was a busy day and I wasn't hungry so I figure thatsd OK. Right?
I'm signed up for fitday, but I never seem to fill out the food stuff. I like it for weight charts and exercise.
THanks Sheryl, have a great day.

Hey Mickey =0)

Welcome to the forum. Looks like your off to a great start! Your BRM is your Basal Metabolic Rate. Its the amount of calories you would burn if you just stayed in bed all day. Basically the amount of calories your body burns without any activity on any given day. You can figure it out here

I hope you have a great day :)

Hey Jenna -
Thanks, I tried that link and it turns out I can eat almost 2000 cals a day. Thanks for coming by. I'kk stop by your diary tonight.

I just got in from hockey. What a great work out but I'm afaid it's a wash. This is a new group of guys I've started playing with, they are very fast, but we all go the bar across the street afterward. I had 3 Mich Ultras, so not to bad. I have to watch out though, Afew more and will power is gone. Pizza is on the house but I decided not to have any. It wouldn't hurt to have a slice but it's almost midnight now and it would just sit in my gut. As for today, I had a couple eggs and a a couple pcs of bacon at breakfast, South Beach Chic roll up at lunch and grilled chic with corn for dinner.

Way better self control there than me! i would be into the pizza quicker than you could say uncle. lol

The wings are me just trying to push my limits with my grandperents, lol. i wanted angel wings for all my birdesmaids but on a budget we can do that, lol i think they are pretty glad. I love them both it is going to be hard to chose!

WTG avoiding that pizza... i've been craving some for awhile LOL

At least you got some activity in before you had those 3 Mich Ultras...Hockey... I used to play hockey... I loved it=0)

Hey MickeyT, Thanks for coming by again.
Ya, the pizza looked good, luckily I had a beer in my hand to keep my mouth busy. Seriously.

I'm wiped out today. I got up at 5am after going to bed after 1 am and the hockey. I had an atkins granola bar early then 2, ya 2, No sugar added klondike bars. Not a big deal, but I should have stopped at 1. There only 170 cals each but no quality cals at all. I just ate lunch, about 1/3 Lb of grilled steak tips the cafeteria downstairs makes and plenty of water today. I'm suppose skate again tonight at 10:45 PM but that's not looking to good. I wouldn't even get home til almost 1am again. I think the sleep is more important than the exercise. Maybe a quick walk on the tread mill.

Hi Jenna,
I was writing here as you posted here. LOL. I love the hockey thing too. It's a great workout and you make friends. You should get back it it. There are plenty of leages in the Boston area and most of the time it's 1 night a week usually after 8-9 pm. I know your VERY busy right now but it is fun.

Ahh... I havn't played since middle school... wow I can't believe I'm saying that like it was a long time ago... but its about 10 years... Wow! I can only imagine what I'd look like trying to play hockey today LOL

I've been thinking about maybe getting back into softball. That I played all the way through high school.

Jesus... look at you being a diary posting machine over here! ha! 14 posts in your diary and you only started... ummm 2 days ago? Niiiccceeee...... Good job with getting in with a hockey team. I give you and Jenna credit, because no matter how hard I try, I have the damndest time standing upright on ice skates. Hmmm normally I would blame it on "the twins," but since Jenna's done it... I'd be just fooling myself. LOL!! Hmmm... I could blame in on being "ass heavy." HA! Anyways... as for eating late... don't frett it. If it's within your calorie allotment, then it's alright to eat it. Now stuffing a whole large pizza down...? Well... that's a WHOLE different story. :D But hey... you already know that, because you're a smart one.

-Sheryl

PS Leave it to Jenna to hook you up with BMR calculations. She's awesome like that. :D

Hey again. Thanks for coming by. Yea, anything that get's you up and moving is great. It gives you something to look forward to and away from any refrigerators. lol

Thanks again Jenna, you guys (ahh, girls) are great.

Hey Sheryl-
Thanks to you girls. This gives me a place to go if I'm thinking of eating (hence all the posts). You guys are cool to, it makes it fun.
As for hockey; all you need to do is learn to balance the twins and ass and there's no stopping you! LOL - it works out for me because I don't have any boobs nor an ass. Getting some sort of ass is part of this goal for my 40th B-day. I'm counting on the yoga for that. It kills the next day. Have a good one.

Missed on whole day. Not to good of a diet day. I simply ate too much, no junk, but too much. Among some snacks I ate baked scollops and swordfish at lunch, the veal with a gravy and cheese from Bretuccis for dinner and no exercise. I was going to jog around the soccer fields doing my oldests' practice, but I ended up taking two more kids with me, so I couldn't.
Today is going much better and I will try to make it to the tread mill after the kids games.
I will also sit down and visit a few diaries tonight.
