Bellaryna's Journey

Most people do not get enough protein. You should eat 1g of it for every half pound of your weight--as a minimum. Protein helps you maintain your muscle and makes you feel full. You are not going to get all of those heart diseases etc that Sweatpea mentioned from eating lean proteins. Things like beans, nuts, lean meats and non-fat dairy are good for you. I try to make sure I get at least 100-110g of protein every day. Sparkpeople and fitday should not be taken at absolute word, b/c they only recommend bare minimums. If you are trying to lose weight, you should eat more protein than what they recommend. I do, and I am healthy as a horse. :D

I also don't agree with their carb recommendation of at least 275g per day. That is pretty high, imo. I am by no means on a low carb diet, and my carbs are almost always under 250g. Low-carb diets are under 60g per day, so eating at my level is certainly not low-carb. Also, carbs tend to be empy calories, and not as filling as protein, making you feel hungry still.

Hi Bikinbound!

By posting that, I just wanted Bella to know where the numbers for sparkpeople were coming from. I rarely have a day where my carbs are over 250 either. Mine generally fall in between 160 and 240. I do focus on whole grains though. Also, as far as the protein, I'm not sure that with her original meal plan (sans dinner) she was getting enough of that either. My protein levels generally fall into the 60's and 70's - sometimes a bit higher. But I do have a lean protein with every meal.

The reason why I asked about her being on a low carb diet was because her carbs were fairly low. Even with missing one meal.

I was just posting the information from sparkpeople since she was using it as a guide. I was also letting her know she can change those numbers in her "goals" section so that they can reflect the way that she wants to eat.

I definitely don't do everything the "Spark" way. ;)

But I did just learn something, that you should have 1g of protein for every 1/2 pound. I have never heard that guideline before. But it makes sense. However, a quick question - should it be for the weight you are now or the weight you want to be?

I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was disagreeing with Sparkpeople. :D I just didn't want her to follow all that b/c Sparkpeople said to.

The protein is for your current weight.

So Bella, you, Margaret and I are on the same team. :hurray: I think we'll do pretty well.

Hi Dawn

Just checking up on my team-mate. I hope that you are doing fine.

Take care

Hey Bell, Did you get your hair did? I wanna see some pics!!

Yeah it is done did! And I love it. It is waaaay shorter than before but with all the swimming I really needed to it to be more managable. I don't have any pic of me yet but you will see it/me on Sunday. The rest of you will have to just wait! LOL
Isa got her hair cut too. ALL OFF!!! Wait until you see it. She is soooo excited.
~For those of you who don't know my 8yr old daughter was growing her hair for Locks of Love and finally had enough to get it cut last night. I am so proud of her for having such a caring heart.~

I think that the 3 of us together makes a powerful team!
And I agree :iagree: we will do very well.

Thank you Margaret for popping in on me.
The last few days were very very hectic around here.
Yesterday morning was a date day with my hubby. We went to the local "Big Town" to get me some new mittens for work. I know it doesn't sound very romantic for a date but when you stop to consider that he was the one pushing the issue to get them as well as new cold weather socks, gloves (for inside the mittens) and a face mask then it truly was a loving day. That and he dropped quite a bit of cash to buy all those things.
Also yesterday my daughter finally had a hair appointment. Her 1st big girl one. I took her to a real salon where they did the whole thing for her. Treating her like royalty. She loved it. I didn't even get home until 8 at night and then I just sat down and watched some TV and from there went to bed.
So things are going well even if it is a bit hectic. LOL

The last few days have been so hectic that I don't even think that I could write down everything that has happened. 1. I just don't have the time and 2. You would all most likely get bored before you got done reading it! LOL
I will regal you all with my tale of being stuck in my neighbors driveway 'cuz I do believe that you will burn lots and lots of calories laughing.
My back door neighbors went to Florida last week. They asked if I would please keep an eye on their cat for them. I told them sure. Now you gotta know this: I am allergic to cats. So I am in no way excited about having to "watch" the cat.
I decided to go over there on Wednesday to check up on Jonah (the cat). Completely forgetting that we had received something like 5-7 inches of snow on Tuesday and that there is no one at their house to shovel the drive. I pulled all the way into the drive. Yup you guessed it. I was stuck. With my kids in the car. Well I figured that if I just followed my tracks back out I would be able to get out of the drive no problem. By the way I did go in and "check up on Jonah"! However they live on a pretty busy road and you basically HAVE to stop at the end of the drive before you pull out or you could get into a pretty bad wreck. Well as luck would have it once I stopped the car wouldn't go anymore. Now I grew up in Michigan, and I know Kimberly will understand this statement, and a little snow never stops anyone from trying to get outta their drive. So I proceeded to the rock it forward and then put it in reverse thing. But it just wouldn't react like it was suppose to. It kept sliding more and more forward. So that I was actually in real danger of running into the garage door. YIKES!!!! During this whole time the kids are in the back seat being like golden cherubs! At one point I actually got the car back all the way up to the road again and then had to stop AGAIN! Because I thought there was a school bus coming. And wouldn't you know it, IT stopped 5 houses before it got to me. By the time all the traffic finally went by and I could try to go I was stuck again. And again I ended up all the way up by the garage door. But this time I now had an audience. The teenage kid that got let off the bus was standing at the end of his driveway watching me try to get the car outta the drive. Finally (and this is so unlike me) I got out of the car and yelled at him that maybe instead of staring at me he could offer to help he went away. At this point I thought maybe my neighbor friend would have a shovel that I could use to at least unbury my car. I go in the gargae and all I can find is a spade shovel. The kind you use to turn dirt in the garden. So it is like only about 3-4 inches wide! So for the next 10-15 minutes I proceed to "shovel" a path from my cars tires to the road. Oh I forgot to mention since it was "just my backdoor neighbors house" and I figured I would be in and out in no time flat I had no coat, no hat, no gloves and no shoes on. JUST MY SLIPPERS!!!!! So yes here I was shoveling snow in my slippers. I must have looked a sight! LOL
At this point I put the shovel away get back into the car and try it again. Everything is going great until I get to the end of the road. Where once again I have to stop and when I did the car slid to the side and I was stuck AGAIN!!! :cuss::cuss::cuss:
By now I am steaming mad and I mean MAD!!! And I of course have my kids watching me so I am trying so hard to be good.
I go get the shovel and start shoveling again.
Now the people in the house next door to my friends must have decided that they wanted to come out and see the show too.
They actually, and I am not lying here!, got in their car and sat in their driveway and watched me shovel. I felt like a monkey at the flippin' zoo!
Just when you think it can't possibly get any worse they back completely out of their driveway and pull up in front of me. Now they were an older couple. I would say probably in their 60's so even if the duffer would have offered to shovel I wouldn't have let him. But when he rolled down his window it wasn't to offer me some help but to ask if me "IF I WAS HAVING FUN YET!!!!!!"
I about blew it right there. I was like "No I am not having fun. I have been stuck for over 1/2 and hour!"
The insensitivity of people truly amazes me.
At least with the teenager I can excuse some of his behavior. He is a teenager for crying out loud and probably didn't have enough brain cells functioning at one time to think that it might be nice to see if I wanted help.
But to have a 60 something year old man laughingly ask me if I am having fun just really burned my bisquits.
Especially since it is quite obvious that I DON'T LIVE THERE!
So of course after I basically shoveled the entire drive I was able to get out. But this time I didn't stop at the end of the drive. I wasn't taking any chances! I just came flying outta there like a bat outta hell. LOL
So that is my story.
Hope you guys got a good chuckle out of it.
I know that I have. Of course only because it is 2 days later. 'Cuz trust me I wasn't laughing then!

Oh I almost forgot to say that I am back down to my lowest weight of 188.4 as of this morning. So apparently sticking to the same eating thing is working for me.
Ciao

I think I saw you on the way to the Fort! I was going to call to see if it was you, but I thought nah - she's going to be going to workout soon!

Awe...you would think the neighbors would've had a shovel to lend ya? Or maybe it's just that "old folk" have only snowblowers?

Anyway, I'm glad you told them no and didn't just shrug it off like most of us would've.

Yay on getting back to your low weight!! :hurray::hurray:

Hello to everyone!
I just rolled in from work about 1/2 hour ago. It is currently 3am. I don't feel very tired at the moment as I had a large cup of java about an hour before I left work. I was soooo tired at work that I figured it would be a good thing to boost my abilities with a shot of caffeine. Except now I am wide awake.
This was not a "eating well" weekend.
I have been at this eating better/lifestyle change thing for about 7 months now and have noticed that when I am tired I reach for the "bad food choices". I don't know if it is due to my body actually craving junk food or if it is simply more of a convienance type thing.
Tomorrow I will be getting back into the gym after taking a week off. It felt nice and guilty all at the same time missing out on all my classes this last week. I am glad that I did take the week off though. I have been pushing myself so hard that I think I may have almost burned myself out. And with the way I have been feeling in the last 3 weeks it was starting to show.
But now that I have identified the problem I can start to work on a solution.
I signed up for Kimberly's newest challenge. The Amazing Race. Kimberly aka BikiniBound, Margaret aka Omega and myself are one team. Kimberly came up with the name The Omega3's. I think it is an abslolutly hilarious name. I LOVE IT!
Well I think that the caffeine is starting to wear off. So I had better be heading off to bed. Especially since the kiddo's will be getting up and around for school in about 3 1/2 hours. And my youngest ds and myself need to be at the YMCA by 9am. Hopefully once we get done with our swimming this morning he will settle down long enough for me to take a nap.
Hope that everyone else is having a great day.
Catch ya'll later.

Hi Bella!
Good job on taking a week off. I know that it's hard even though you know you need it. When I do, I always feel soooo guilty.

The Omega3's an hilarious name! Kimberly really has an imagination! I hope you'll do great on the challenge.

Have a good 3 hours sleep and a great day!

Hugs
India

hey sounds like you needed that rest and you will be starting with a bit of energy and motivation for the challenge!! good luck!

Oh Bella! I'm sorry you had such a "fun" experience in you friend's driveway. I can't believe none of the neighbors came to help you. Next time, steal some of the cat's kitty litter and put it down for traction. It works like a charm--and is easier than shovelling the whole driveway. ;)

Haha, I'm glad y'all like Omega-3. I definitely am fatty, and have been know to be acidic. :p

Thank you so much to everyone who keeps stopping by my diary.

Kimberly~
I don't know why I didn't think to use the kitty litter. DUH!! I guess I was just so "caught up in the moment". Oh Well now I know.

a-n-g-e-l, bmohearn and india~
Thanks for always stopping by to leave me some encouraging words. I really appreciate that!

Well now that I have gotten my beauty sleep, LOL, I am feeling much better.
I actually went to bed last night at like 9pm but was actually falling asleep on the couch well before that.
I didn't get up until 7am this morning. Truth be told I probably could have slept even longer if the kids wouldn't have woke me up. But like I said I am feeling much better this morning.
My swim class last night was cancelled at the last minute due to a kid throwing up in the pool. Of course I had just got in the pool (like 30 seconds in) when the life guard blew the whistle for everyone to get out.
They'll have the pool back up and running by this afternoon. They make everyone stay out of it for 24 hours. That way the pool can cycle itself clean.
I did go to PowerCore last night. And plan to go to my Fit for Life class tonight. Some of you may recall that I was going to try to just do one class a session so that I was not gone every night of the week. But then with this bad weather that we have been having my T/TH class was down to one day a week because they kept cancelling.
Sooo for the time being I think that I may just go back to the 4 nights a week thing. At least I know that if I wanted or needed to I could always skip on one of my M/W classes.
It was suppose to ice and snow last night but never did get that bad. Though they are still calling for a Winter Storm Warning in my area for tonight and tomorrow. I am sooo hoping that they are wrong about all that as well.
I really need spring to get here fast! LOL
Well even though I seem to have all the time in the world today to sit and cruise the site I really don't. I have lots and lots of stuff to do around the house. Especially if I am going to pick back up on my classes.
So I will check back in later.
See ya!
