because i'm worth it!! (aren't we all??!)

mrs robinson in the house...........LOL

oh i don't know...like i say its been a while...

so i may just take my chances.....:D

night boys...........

any greys fans out there??????????

what is it with all this denny business?? now suddenly he walks among them???

its distracting...not that i don't apppreciate seeing jefferey dean morgan half naked...b/c i do a lot :drool5: (though i prefer him bigger like he used to be...hes lost weight over the other side...) but its distracting from the main story line.

you're probably ahead of us here in the Uk...so how long does it last...these 'visitations'???!! & does she just snap out of it...or go all out cuckoo/psychotic...losing contact with reality altogether??

(of course i'm assuming...denny is her hallucination & not a ghost!!)

Well it lasts for a while. I don't want to spoil anything for you though. Would you be able to watch the videos on the website? http ://abc.go.com/primetime/greysanatomy If so you then you can catch right up.

thanks solty........

Well it lasts for a while. I don't want to spoil anything for you though. Would you be able to watch the videos on the website? http ://abc.go.com/primetime/greysanatomy If so you then you can catch right up.

a while??? oh nooooooo!!! i never bleeddin thought the sight of denny (100% of pure yumminess) would kind of annoy me but it sorta does when it comes to greys as a whole...

did you catch him in 'ps i love you' with an irish accent?? oh bejesus!! (just said that in my best irish accent btw LOL)

magic dudes or dudettes?? hahaha good one...

That was very nice, thanks :) And hey, I'm not one to downplay the amazing nature of the universe... huge balls of hot gas and all. lol. If anything I think not believing that some magic dudes or dudettes created all this stuff makes it all the more wondrous and special :D

but if they didn't create the universe...who/what did?? comes back to my 'what came before' quandary...i know we’ve agreed to differ LOL so this is just me asking how you deal with this question...ok?? unless of course i go off the topic which lets face it is > likely...but i’ll try not to...i promise!!

Thinking maybe i hold on to the idea/belief that there is a plan...a god/creator...The Great Architect of the Universe...for purely self centred reasons...b/c if there is a plan then we must go on...& also without wanting to repeat myself there is the whole energy can't be destroyed thing too...& plus it is like you say....all so 'wondrous and special'...how can it not be designed???

the other night the sky was soooooo beautiful i was speechless (which hardly ever happens) clear navy sky, stars twinkling away but with some puffs of creamy lilac clouds just floating by too.......:Angel_anim:

this blummin question of what came before still plagues me...as i said it seems to me that no matter how you view it...spirituality/science...you come up against the same kinda thing...though don't think i've yet managed to explain what i mean...

when i said what created the BIG BANG i didn't mean the actual bangy bit (i do so like to use the real technical terms LOL) as with such density, heat & pressure...you'll get a BANG for sure every time....but what caused the heat at this finite point in our past?? what was so dense in the first place?? Where did the particles come from?? Matter/anti-matter?? protons, neutrons, electrons, photons???????? in this colossal explosion 14 billion yrs ago...all matter, energy, space &time were created...& such was the force of it that to this day, the universe is still expanding. gigantic clouds of dust & gas have clumped together over billions of yrs to produce galaxies, moons, stars & planets ...everything around us including ourselves - the universe as we know it & all the matter in it is made up of 92 naturally occuring elements...

still...EVERYTHING FROM NOTHING???!!
(or rather everything from these 92 elements?? why 92?? & where did they come from?? see it doesn't stop....:willy_nilly:)

an atom is the smallest part of a substance...but not the smallest thing there is...inside an atom are even smaller, sub-atomic particles...& there are > 1 billion atoms in a fullstop!!?? FFS!!???

our planet earth is just one planet in the solar system/our sun just one star in the milky way galaxy/our galaxy just one in billions that make up the universe...& there are billions & billions of stars..........all in all WOW!!!????

whether we view the universe at the teeniest tiniest scale (microcosm or sub-sub-atomic or even metaphysical-level) or take it in all its great majesty at the largest scale (macrocosm or universe-level)...it is truly awe inspiring & blummin mindboggling!!!!!!!! But all from mere chance?? Random??

from the little baldy fella or moby as you may know him.....:)
just like the quote from the ethan hawke/julie delpy movie...
we are all stardust...as is everything that is made of this universe/this world...everything we know/see/touch/feel...

but if they didn't create the universe...who/what did?? comes back to my 'what came before' quandary...

this blummin question of what came before still plagues me...as i said it seems to me that no matter how you view it...spirituality/science...you come up against the same kinda thing

still...EVERYTHING FROM NOTHING???!!

Okay okay, I’ve had some wine so I’m well prepared to exercise my finger muscles.

It is my opinion that we vastly overestimate the “power” and faculties of the human mind, but our bias is probably inevitable. Let’s face it, we’re human and we’re always going to think we’re something special. On top of that we possess a number of mental faculties that (arguably) the other species we share our planet with do not possess, or possess in a more limited fashion. So yeah, no wonder we think we’re “all that and a bag of chips.”

It’s because of this bias, I think, that we regularly lead ourselves down stray paths, and also probably why we make shit up and believe it so readily. All throughout history when we couldn’t conceive of the answer to our questions we have attributed the occurrence in question to supernatural explanations. As I mentioned before, we did it with lightning, we did it with the sun, we did it with the moon, we did it with human origin, we did it with weather patterns, we did it with disease, we did it with mental illness, we did it with physical deformity, we did it with gravity, we did it with agriculture, architecture, art, geology… hell, we did it with pretty much every fricken thing that we couldn’t readily explain at the time. And for the love of god, we’re still doing it just as much as we used to, but because we now have scientific explanations for all of that other crap I just listed (and 100 billion more examples) we somehow feel even MORE justified in letting magic answer our unanswerable questions in the so-called “modern age”. Come on people! Several thousand years of written history should be enough for us to lean from our mistakes! lol

But no, when we encounter a problem for which our minds presently cannot conceive of an answer we run right back to magic (well, first we run to Google, and when Google can’t answer our questions satisfactorily we run to magic :D).

To illustrate this point I like to use the following illustration. Consider the possibility that that the Universe is full of alien life. Now let’s say that in terms of intelligence we compare to the most intelligent beings in the universe in much the same way that a common house fly compares to humans on Earth. You follow?

Okay, now let’s say that you see a house fly sitting on top of your computer monitor. Do you think that fly has any idea what it’s sitting on? Let’s pretend that you can speak “fly.” lol. Do you think you could you explain what a computer is, what it does, how it assists people, how the hard drive works, the way a circuit board works, (do YOU even know how a circuit board works?!! I don’t. LOL!) etc.? Of course not. The fly does not possess the mental faculties to comprehend the very thing that it’s sitting on! And it never will. It's not a matter of education... the fly can't know what a computer is in much the same way that a black and white television can't display color. It just doesn't have the right parts in the right configuration.

What if we’re really the fly in the grand scheme of things? Seems possible if not down right bloody likely to me! Perhaps all of the answers we’re seeking are right there in front of our faces and we don’t even possess the faculties to see that we’re sitting right on top of everything we could ever want to know and more.

Believe it or not all of this crap really does relate to your post, lol. Whenever I hear people say that one of the reasons they believe in a magical/supernatural power is because “it all had to come from somewhere” I get a wee bit nauseous. It’s a bit like saying, “God must have created this circuit board because I don’t understand it” or “The Sun must be magical because there’s no other possible explanation that I can think of at this moment.” There’s always the possibility that all of the matter that is or ever was has always been and always will be whether we have an explanation for it or not. There’s also the possibility that matter can in fact be created in some process that we’re not aware of, or that we literally can not be aware of. And then of course there are an infinite number of other possibilities as well.

As for “wondrous and special” … I will once again refer back to the fly example. I’m willing to bet that our fly would think a pile of shit is “wonderful and special.” In the fly’s case you’d be right… it did have a “creator,” but it’s still a pile of shit. LOL. All humor aside, there is a highly probably explanation for humanity thinking existence is “wondrous and special” that doesn’t involve magic, and that’s in addition to the infinite number of possible explanations that we can and can’t conceive.

also without wanting to repeat myself there is the whole energy can't be destroyed thing too”

I still don’t see what this has to do with a persistent “soul” or magic or whatever. I transfer energy from the battery in my television remote to an infrared beam that tells my television to change channels. No magic there. When I die the neurons in my brain will stop firing, and the energy in my body will dissipate as heat and through the gaseous bloated mess that I will become if not found quickly enough. Some bugs might make a buffet out of me and participate in some of that energy transfer as well. Pretty cool, but no magic. (lol, sorry, pretty gross).

So yeah, maybe everything from nothing, maybe everything always was, and maybe the real truth is one of the mega-tetra-zillions of other possibilities that we’re just too damn stupid to squeeze into our tiny minds, or that we haven't thought of yet. Or maybe we’re one step from being gods and a patriarchal supreme being crafted us out of wet dirt in his image. Hell if I know, but I’m not jumping to conclusions because not liking some of the possible and probable explanations is no reason to cling to magic and attractive explanations that comfort us.

Well... in my opinion anyway :D

Oh, and here's a quote for ya...

Do not believe in anything simply because you have
heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is
spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in
anything simply because it is found written in your
religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on
the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not
believe in traditions because they have been handed
down for many generations. But after observation and
analysis, when you find that anything agrees with
reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one
and all, then accept it and live up to it.

-Siddhârtha Gautama, the Buddha

schwa...my last ever ramble on the subject...i promise!!

anyway....tomorrow i have something very important to do that will distract me from obsessing about the origins of the universe & hopefully snacking too...as i have some new pink perspex boxes to store my shoes in...told you it was important :D & as i had at last count oh can't remember really approx 200 i think pairs of shoes...& thats just the heels.......i'll be busy...i've had some for 10yrs though...now i could joke that they've lasted wayyyyyyy longer than my 3 marriages combined but that wouldn't be very nice....so i won't!! :newangel: :newangel:

the big bang is considered the birth of our universe yet science can not explain what came before it...what caused the big bang to happen?? Repeating myself now but...if viewed from a religious perspective...if god created universe/all that we know...who created god?? Always magic i suppose...already mentioned how i was surprised to find stephen hawkings explanation for what triggered the Big Bang was that he likes to believe it was ‘just spontaneously’ created...

in good company actually as even Einstein said...

if you don't believe in magic you may as well be dead

going to have faith (ooooh lets make it 97% today...) in ‘my’ theory that the birth of our universe...ended another...& the cycle will continue indefinitely...no beginning no ending as such (so don’t have to flap about when/how it began...well thats the idea anyway)...just constant destruction & re-creation ad infinitum....

Allegory of faith, by L.S. Carmona (1752–53).
‘Veil symbolizes the impossibility to know directly the evidences.’ Beautiful statue...pity they have it displayed right next to an electric light switch...

though even this of course means excepting that we don’t know everything & probably never will...that there are things beyond our explanation...beyond our current knowledge & understanding of all that we know of the fundamental laws of nature. For me of course...this then leaves room for the possibility of a little gooeyness in the equation...a metaphysical take on things...to try to understand the question of whats it all about????

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."
Albert Einstein

Cosmology...branch of metaphysics that deals with the world as the totality of all phenomena in space and time...

• What is the origin of the Universe? What is its first cause? Is its existence necessary?
• What are the ultimate material components of the Universe?
• What is the ultimate reason for the existence of the Universe? Does the cosmos have a purpose?

(interesting....maybe i should have studied cosmology at uni instead of pyschology... my counselling ‘career’ didn’t last long after all...no objectivity at all...like a sponge i soaked up all their upsets & distress...then gave them my phone no. to contact me at home to??! soooooo not professional & not very good for my well being either )

Determinism and free will...
Determinism is the philosophical proposition that every event, including human cognition, decision and action, is causally determined by an unbroken chain of prior occurrences. It holds that no random, spontaneous, mysterious, or miraculous events occur. The principal consequence of the deterministic claim is that it poses a challenge to the existence of free will. i believe an intermingling of both free will & fate exert influence on our lives...

Religion and spirituality...
Theology is the study of a God or gods and the nature of the divine. Whether there is a God (monotheism), many gods (polytheism) or no gods (atheism), or whether it is unknown or unknowable whether any gods exist (agnosticism), and whether the Divine intervenes directly in the world (theism), or its sole function is to be the first cause of the universe (deism); whether a God or gods and the World are different/’all-in-God’ (as in panentheism and dualism), or are identical/’God is all’...(as in pantheism), some of the metaphysical questions concerning philosophy of religion. For me god/creator is an all-encompassing energy or force more so than a being...the sum total of all that is, was, and shall be.

Space and time...
A traditional realist position in ontology is that time and space have existence apart from the human mind. Idealists, including Kant claim that space and time are mental constructs used to organise perceptions, or are otherwise unreal. Newton, on the other hand, argued for an absolute "container" space. The pendulum swung back to relational space with Einstein and Ernst Mach...i’m with the old guy with the crazy hair...that defied gravity!! LOL

ontology in philosophy...the study of the nature of being, existence or reality in general, as well as of the basic categories of being and their relations....cool!! on 2nd thoughts in my next life i’m studying that!! I wonder though if we did come back would we know all the answers anyway??

Or Maybe they slip out of our conscious mind as we become human beings...so that if we have to do a ‘do-over’...we have to learn from scratch again...bugger!!! until we get it right...whatever it is we were meant to learn...

yrs ago i remember reading in some gooey book or other... that we choose the circumstances of our birth and life...to enable us to experience certain aspects of the human condition/existence (can’t remember what the book was called other than it had a blue cover...)

Have a sneaking feeling...that i may have failed miserably at my lessons in this lifetime & will be made to come back!!! Just hope not with the same bloody family members or ex husbands...double bugger!!!!!!! I’ve also read though (or maybe i dreamt it...sorry schwa y’know how vague us gooey types can be LOL) about patterns of behaviour ...that you can go through repeating unresolved situations in this life in different r/ships with different ppl until you finally work it out & resolve the issues...the learning of the ‘lesson’ is the important thing. so you have more than one chance...yeah but i’ve fell out with > family member & had > marriage...so i’m definitely down for a bloody re-sit.............. Dammit!!!!!!!!

William Shakespeare...
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Act I, Scene V, Hamlet.

I know i shouldn’t try & speak for you schwa...but the following quote is perhaps more in tune with your way of thinking about all of this ‘stuff ‘ that makes my mind spiral...

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent."
Ludwig Wittgenstein...Philosopher

Anyway if i can override every blummin fibre of my being that was telling me to just eat the damn ‘death by chocolate cake’( hmmmmmmmm chocolate heaven i swear!!) that was on the menu the other day when i went out for lunch...i can finally put all this panic about the origin/purpose of the universe & mankind to bed now...LOL

Btw...

REALLY REALLY WANTED TO....BUT DIDN’T...
though i thought about it for a longgggg time after!! hahaha......

NB to self....choc cake not love or sex................its just food...yeah yeah blahbloodyblah.........

edit 1....
actually i don't agree with einstein & the relational space theory. i'm firmly in the realist/'container' space camp...after all when i'm tripping the light fantastic with the angels & fairies & other light beings...there has to be 'something there' still for us to fly/float about in (not 100% sure of the modi operandi LOL) unencumbered by physical/human restraints...so i believe both space & time continue to exist in the absence of matter. Its opposite is the relational theory

eidt 2...
not sure that 'food' will ever 'just' be food/fuel for me...
is love ever 'just' love?? or sex 'just' sex??? hmmmmm hope not but not sure...

hi...

i didn't notice you'd replied...i tend to just type a bit & wander off........then hope it makes some kind of sense when i post it.....LOL

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent."
Ludwig Wittgenstein...Philosopher

Yeah, I don't agree with that. I would change that to, "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must not believe they have the answer.”

Being silent totally defeats the purpose of my ideology. Talk alot! Guess alot! Imagine a lot! Presume to know nothing.

yes but i like comfort...

& anyway for all that ramble of yours smartarse...:D

what you're saying is that you really don't know either how/why it all started/if there was a 'start'...anything more than i do...but whereas you choose to ignore it/dismiss the possibilities of there being more to this life...i obsess & worry at times...yes i suppose as all essentially unanswerable questions blahblahblah...your non headwrecking take on things would be best...maybe i'll do it your way...in the next life.........;)

Whoa, whoa! Hey now! Watch it missy, lol, you missed my point.

I don't choose to ignore or dismiss anything, nor do I find myself immune to the struggles of trying to comprehend the nature of the universe and all the jazz. I question everything! The only difference, I think, is that I don't make assumptions as to the nature of things I don't understand. Doing so is the nature of GOO!! lol

hahaha...........

whatever............:D

i will just seek refuge in my goo.........its a harsh confusing world out there.......well for us sensitive types anyway.......'you just rattle away' LOL

still...i like hearing what you have to say...i even take some comfort from the fact that you don't get freaked out by it all....

now if it wasn't for the damn time difference i could chat to you all night...ok maybe not all night...but y'know what i mean...

ps no idea why but kureransu seemed a bit shocked by something??! not sure if it was the thought of my nakedness or yours...or both :smilielol5::smilielol5: but something certainly eeked him!!?? i may have to look for another waterboy....

anyway........
no idea what kind of music you're into but right now as i start to fall asleep i'm listening to this by james morrison...night night...........

my delicate nature..............

hey hey don't go looking for another anything! i am all you need right here!

hahaha............

ok big guy.....you are still my official rub down/waterboy...LOL

i had thought my slight salacious nature had shocked you in some way...though don't know why/how as really i am a very reserved chick...:Angel_anim:

i mean if i wasn't i would have drew attention to a little something schwa said last night...

Okay okay, I’ve had some wine so I’m well prepared to exercise my finger muscles.:smilielol5::smilielol5:

but like i said i'm a shy type so i won't......not ever..........

in fact i feel quite faint & a little shocked by such straightforwardness....not to mention presumptiousness....
i need someone with big strong arms to catch meeeeeeeeeeee....luckily i've lost those 15 lbs ;)

I just found your journal...

Wow, 15 lbs in a month? That's really good. It seems like you're on your way to getting to your goal; both with weight and body. Just don't quit on me, because I'll be checking in from time to time, looking for a little inspiration. Or, as some call it, a kick in the ass. It's always helpful to see that others are losing weight, so keep it up...OR ELSE!!! :cuss:
