Beagle's No Lie Zone

I think I just got a headache reading ur breakdown...
can u tell I hated math while in school? :p :D :p

well.. teriyaki chicken isn't extremely light but it isn't horrible so I wouldn't worry about it THAT much. do stay away from the tempura, the gyozas, the miso soup (that's just sodium), and the deep fried pork though.

Hey Beagle- man, I agree with C on the math thing- I can never seem to break it down correctly...lol. 8lbs in 21 days?? Totally doable :D

On the eliptical, assuming the calculations are correct, I can burn 9 or 10 calories per minute without straining myself too much. It's definitely my favourite machine for that, since even running full tilt I can't get that kind of burn rate. So 500 calories is 50-60 minutes, which I do fairly often without thinking about it. I just gotta do it every day.

For anyone worrying about my metabolism or well-being, take heart that I will be taking multivitamins, and that this is only short-term - I want to see how good I can do if I absolutely push myself! Then I can go back to a normal 1 lbish per week loss :)

Hi Beagle,
For the short term if you're that active you don't need to worry as much about your metabolism as you do about the actual calorie burn. You should add 30 minutes 3 times a week of all-over weight training (you can go with your lighter weight higher rep & then it'll be a little extra cardio bonus too) but the calorie burn estimates are never right on those machines, I saw a review of one major brand (can't remember the name) that was up to 20% off on the calorie burn estimates. And it was always over estimating (making us happy because we've "burned" so much). The residual burn from resistance training lasts longer, and if you add that to your 50-60 minutes of cardio I really do think you can do it (if you're strict). And please don't try to keep up that pace for more than 21 days! I lecture because I care, AND because I've made nearly all the diet & fitness mistakes there are, and learned by screwing myself up now & then over the past 20 years (and having a few successes along the way- my first diet was when I was 13 and it was unhealthy.)

Hey Beagle just popping in to say thanks for posting in my diary and good luck on getting to your goal. Eating out at a really nice place must be good initiative, I'd quite like to try Japanese food myself but there aren't any places near me.

So I got these meal replacement shakes this week, Dietex. I've only been taking it two days now, but so far they seem to work pretty well. They're high in protein, and also have *proper* Hoodia in them as an appetite suppressant, which hopefully will make this whole ordeal a lot easier. Each shake is 175 calories, and supposedly will keep you full for up to 8 hours. So all I have to deal with is self-control, and no overwhelming hunger pangs. With most things Hoodia, it takes a couple days to get the full effect, but so far what I can tell you guys is that the shake is pretty yummy (comes in chocolate or vanilla, I got chocolate since I was told the vanilla is really only any good if you're mixing it with fruit or something, which I don't have any of), but it's really hard to get all of it to dissolve with just a spoon, and I'm not gonna pull my blender out for it. The shakes are pretty heavy in your stomach too, this morning I feel just a wee bit ill like I ate a huge meal in 30 seconds... giving it a chance to settle before I get in the shower.

The goal is to have a shake in the morning, grab a light lunch, and then a shake for dinner, and I shouldn't have any hunger until the next morning, and repeat :)

I also want to thank everyone for stopping by and showing support for me, and for those boggled by math, sorry to confuse you! I'm terrible at "higher" math, like physics and statistics and such, but I still like to put things into numbers and break it down like that to put things in much better perspective. As long as you give it the right information, math can never lie to you :) Up until now, I've mostly used this kind of math to stop myself from hyperventilating over my tiny paycheque and showing myself that it is enough to cover what I need, I just can't go crazy!

Girl I am so proud of you and i missed ya!!!!!! lets rock girlfriend!!!!

I ordered them from , but I also saw them at the local heath food/supplement store for about $15 more.

Cannon, Princess, don't worry, I don't even know if I can keep this kind of regimen up for the whole three weeks, let alone longer. A) I'm taking in a severely reduced number of calories and even with protein and metabolism boosters I still find myself getting really tired by the end of the day (I slept over 10 hours last night), and B) I just miss having normal meals. My mom made her most delicious chili ever last night, and I had to decline since I didn't have time to go to the gym after to make up for it :( I did end up stealing a few bites afterwards, but its still not the same.

I think Josh is kind of disenchanted with the idea too; we're taking classes together right now, and he's ready for lunch by the time they're done. I either just sit there trying to make conversation while he feels guilty about eating in front of me (I really don't mind though, I've gotten used to the idea of others eating what they want while I have nothing or a small salad, but everyone seems to think they have to walk on eggshells around me), or I leave him to his lunch and go to the gym.

So yeah, I think if I did this crash dieting thing any longer than I had to to prove a point to myself, I'd go crazy or something :p

Beagle, I am not going to TOUCH the crash diet thing. Just take care of yourself! Get in your water, yada, yada, yada  I know you've heard it all before but I still feel obligated to remind ya :D

Hope you've had a good day! :D

well... I worry about your health to be honest but u're a grown woman. If you feel faint or anything though, please have some food and go see a doctor okay? *huggles* No sushi is worth this. (oh my god did I just say that?!?! *apologizes to the sushi gods but knows it is still true* ;) :p :D  )

BEAGLE!!! HOW did you get to page three?!?!?! We can't have that!!! Just popped in to see how you were and to bring ya back to the "home" page :D Where ya at today?!?! :D

LOL I did not faint :p If you guys looked, I've been posting in other people's journals the past few days, but not my own... you guys don't seem so interested in this particular diet of mine so I won't bother you with the details :)

I've been doing well though, took a bit of a break yesterday when Josh and I went over to a friend's house for dinner and a movie - she made a very delicious chicken and asparagus pasta dish and we brought caesar salad with homemade dressing. :D

Been kinda slack with exercise over the weekend though, but I'm going for a good catch-up session tonight after work.

So there you have it, Beagle is still vertical and doing pretty well :) We'll see just how well tomorrow morning!

Weigh-in: 178. I think I lost .2 lbs over this whole damn week.

I don't want to talk about this right now, and have a bus to catch anyways. I'll be back later.

Not "not interested", Hon, just concerned with the health issues that can come of crash diets. NEVER "NOT INTEREST"

Glad to know you're still alive and kickin:D Don't fret about the .2 loss - you know about it and can adjust what you've done to improve upon it :D

Hope you have a great day Beagle Bailey :D

So now that I've had some time to calm myself from this morning (bad news + morning grump = not very reasonable beagle), I can talk about this a bit more rationally.

I will admit I am so very disappointed in myself. I thought I had taken into account every possible thing I could to ensure a loss. Even one pound would have been acceptable, even if I might have been a little disappointed. I was aiming for two though. And I get POINT two. A tenth of the loss I was working towards.

In a week that is entirely uncharacteristic of me, I didn't cheat ONCE. A couple of days I was behind on my exercise but I had around 1000 calories a day intake, and even with no exercise each day I should have yielded SOME loss! I took one day as a "lax" day to get some pasta that a friend made me, and a bread roll, but I was within my calories and exercised after anyways. I've been drinking an average of 2-3L of water a day. And then yesterday in an attempt to hedge my bets a little I ate even less than I normally do, with a final count around 500 (2 meal replacement shakes and a yogurt cup) and 3.5 L of water!

It is, to say the least, absolutely frustrating to put that kind of effort in, and then to fall flat on my face anyways. Before I could always trace my lack of loss to a general lack of self-control during the week in small portions, and not trying very hard at the gym. I have no excuses left this week though. It does not take less than a week for my metabolism to adjust to a decreased number of calories like this. I am at a loss for an explanation, or what I can do better this week.

Weight loss is a really strange thing, I've noticed sometimes that on my really good behaviour weeks I'll loose either a tiny fraction or none at all but on some bad weeks I'll loose a pound or more.

As long as you keep at it and don't let it put you off you can't do much wrong. ;)

I know it's frustrating but maybe u gotta keep at it. who knows? ur body might be just resisting right now but next weigh-in you lose like 4 pounds. that's what happened to me remember? I didn't lose anything one week. I kept at it and BAM, I lose 6 pounds the following week. I'm sure if u just keep at it ur body will get the idea that u're not starving or trying to kill it but just wanna lose some weight and it'll start shedding the pounds again. sides, Mal is right... a loss is a loss no matter what. and that you should be proud of. you're doing great. exercising, eating. everything. the most important thing is that u're getting healthier.
