Beagle's No Lie Zone

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=crunch:
"A modified sit-up having a smaller range of motion that reduces back strain and strengthens the abdominal muscles"
Kind of like a sit up, but more focussed, and a little bit easier to do.

I do four (well three) different kinds of crunches, but these aren't the only kinds at all:
- "regular" laying with feet on the ground shoulder width apart and bring my head and shoulders off the ground. Sometimes it helps to put your hands behind your head (as long as your not using them to lift your head!) or on your knees (don't pull yourself up!). These work the upper abs, between your belly button and your ribs.
- "upside down" lay with knees together and feet on the ground and pull your legs in towards yourself, while keeping your leg at a right angle as much as possible (hint: on the down movement, get your feet as close to the ground as you can without actually putting them down). Putting your hands just under your butt can make this easier on your hips. Once they start getting easy, try with straight legs. Hooking your ankles gives you more control in either version. This works the lower abs, between your belly button and your hips.
- "sideways" This one will definitely feel silly while you're doing it, but it works. Lay with your knees together and feet on the ground, and hands behind your head. Lift your knees so that they are straight up (again, hooking your ankles together helps give control), and bend to either side. Once you get a good pace going, it kind of looks like you're wiggling on the ground ;) What you are trying to do is bring your elbow down to touch your hip back and forth - you don't ever have to reach your hip, but that's the kind of motion you make.

There are so many different kinds of crunches that work just as well (like Scarlette's), but those are the ones I do.

I found a page that has a list of different kinds of crunches too! Haven't read through them all yet, but it looks pretty good!

ah! thanks for the sites!! it's great! :)
I didn't realize there was so many varieties!!

I usually do the first crunches you mentioned... and something like the second. but slightly modified. i used to do the side crunches too.... but uh... i got lazy and totally forgot about them.

Thanks very much for the advice, I'll need to start doing some of those I think after I get my room tidied and I get some floor space.:)

Blech, I hate having to work in the mornings... all my part-time evening shifts, and afternoon/evening classes have spoiled me into sleeping late every day, but I still always have that Saturday morning shift! Well, actually starting tomorrow its going to be Sunday morning, which means I'm working *all weekend* this week, but I'll get paid better for it. Regardless, I am sleepy and grumpy and want to stomp my feet until someone lets me go back to bed! :p

Okay, okay, down to business. Yesterday's food:
- peanut butter and honey toast - 300
- small bowl of Kraft Dinner - 350
- spaghetti (no sauce, just a little seasoning salt) - 600
- half a bag of lite popcorn - 200
Total - 1450

Exercise:
- 4x60 crunches
- no cardio :(

Good MORNING!!!!! hehehehe Did you get to go back to bed yesterday??? LOL great job on those crunches yesterday! :D Hope you get your cardio in today :D

Have a great day and do good :D

Great info on crunches, beagle!! It looks like the crunch I've been doing only works the lower abs. And I really need some help on my upper abs. So I'm going to add that first one you mentioned. Thanks so much for the help!!!!!!

Just a short break again, no time to really check journals yet, sorry!

I just wanted to say that my pants are SO uncomfortable around the waist today! I went down another belt loop, and now my 16's are bunched up all around my waist and I have folds of denim digging into my skin, or sometimes actually hanging down! Just for kicks I tried pulling them off while done up (without the belt), and I can *almost* do it! I looked like a pretty blingin' rapper for a couple of minutes though, with my jeans just barely hanging onto my butt ;)

I really really need to buy some new jeans but I am so very poor right now. The only way I could afford some new pants would be if I dipped into my tuition money and I'm already running it really close as it is. Too bad my art isn't good enough to get people to buy it or commision me. I've considered "investing" in a large canvas and some more paint to make a painting to sell on eBay or something but a) I don't even have the money to invest in the first place especially if I can't guarantee I'll get it back, and b) paintings on eBay go for woefully little - like $90 for something that may have taken weeks to complete. It would cost at least half that to get the supplies for it.

Hah, what am I complaining here for? My dinky paycheck doesn't matter to any of you :p And I should be PSYCHED about the loss!

i can SO relate Beagle. My pants are falling down constantly. I can't wear belts so I keep yanking them. Even my skinny pants are too loose now. But ain't it wonderful? :D Do you do any sewing or any of your friends? They can make an inseam to make the pants fit slightly better til you have some extra cash. That's what I'm doing in the mean time (I found out graduation is just another word for unemployment. :( )

That is EXCELLENT news about your baggy rapper pants, beagle!!!!! What a great feeling. I like to call them my "diaper pants" because they look like a saggy baby diaper in the back!!!!

That is one bad thing about losing weight....it's like you need a new set of clothes with each size you go down but it's such a waste of money since those clothes will only fit until you get down to the next size. I really lucked out because I found a Levi outlet not far from home where I can get jeans for $10 to $14 a pair to get me through.

I'm glad to hear there are others out there in baggy saggy clothes club!!!

Keep it up, you're doing great!!!!!

So weekend report... I didn't do so well. I always seem to eat like crap on the weekend :( Saturday was the worst. My supervisor brought in Dilly Bars for everyone on our team (basically chocolate dipped icecream on a stick - so delicious but so bad), and I didn't even THINK about not eating it, I just ate it, and then after the fact the thought occured to me that I could have graciously declined. Lunch and dinner that day wasn't so bad, a greek salad and a hot dog respectively, but I munched all damn night, I don't know what was wrong with me! Yesterday wasn't *as* bad but my dinner was definitely bigger than it should have been since we went out for dinner. I ordered quesidillas which looked fairly good, but the serving was bigger than I expected, and because I was genuinely hungry I ate the whole thing (I gotta say though they were DELICIOUS - spicy beef and montery jack cheese and what I think was a ranch sauce...). I also didn't get ANY exercise in!

I spent the night at Josh's house so I don't know what the damage is because his scale is calibrated slightly different from mine. I'm going to try and make up for the weekend today so that maybe tomorrow morning I'll have at least been able to say I maintained. So far I had a greek salad for breakfast/lunch (I didn't get up till 11) - omg I love greek salads more and more the more I have them! Especially since Josh's mom makes them 10x better than I ever do.

I have my university class until 4:30 now, and then have driving lessons 6-9, so I won't have time to stop at home to eat, and I am, as mentioned above, painfully broke so I won't be able to pick something up. Guess I better keep my trusty water bottle topped up to take the edge off the hunger I'm sure I'll be feeling by 5. *checks watch* Meep, class starts in 5 minutes, gotta run!

BTW if anyone wants to text me today, my cell number is 780-953-7455 (and I'm going to be deleting this after my class, so write it down if you're gonna use it), I'll probably be needing the extra support, or at the very least, someone to distract me from my unbelievably boring prof :p

Come on Beagle!!!! You gotta get with it here ;) But you already knew that, huh? :D

Great job on the saggy britches!! :D An awesome thing, huh?? :D Try consignment shops for clothes - they are usually a few dollars per pant and a couple per top (not sure what that works out to in Canadian $ ). I had to start doing that or risk going broke

Hope tonight goes well for ya ;)

I don't think I effectively have that "time of the month"... I'm on depo provera for birth control, and its really effective (though not for everyone - I just managed to dodge all the really nasty side-effects). I don't get the TOM "mess", and as far as I can tell I don't get the mood swings or cravings right before either. I'm left excuseless when it comes to bad moods and bad eating days :p

In good news however, I have lost! Scale has declared 181.2 to be the new weight. On measuring myself, I've dropped a cumulative 6cm over 5 measurements (1cm each off either thigh, breasts, and ribcage, 2 off my hips... and my waist didn't budge)! I can only imagine what it would have been if I didn't have such a crappy weekend.

*runs off to change ticker* I caught you Cassie!!

Oh yeah, yesterday's food:
- approx 2 cups greek salad: 200
- bag of *baked* chips: 310 (found a dollar in my pocket and was soo hungry)
- approx 2 cups hamburger helper: 500
Total: 1010 calories

Hey Beagle, don't worry about a few slipups on the weekends, just focus on doing the best you can today, and whenever you think of it, take one decision at a time (Is this good for me? Should I eat it? And if the answer is "no" then ask, do I really want this, and will I feel satisfied and FINISHED once I do eat it?). It works about half the time for me. Better than never, huh?

Oh well love I did try to save you from this …bend over its time for a butt kickin  :D
Congrats on the loss. :)

I think I definitely made up for it yesterday! I had:
- a small bowl of carrots and fat-free ranch dressing - 75
- a chicken salad wrap from Tim Horton's - 500
- toast - 150
Total: 725

And also did 45 mins on the eliptical at the gym! Oh, I had forgot to mention I did 30 mins on the eliptical monday.

I don't know how I managed to get away with barely 700 calories yesterday; I just wasn't hungry and didn't really have time to eat *shrug*

I can relate to not taking in enough calories in a day, I just seem to get the good healthy food that's filling but doesn't have too many calories in. I'm sure a day or two in between eating 1200 won't do you much harm. Well done for getting back on track, I'm sure you'll be fine this weekend!:)
