Bassackwards diary

Argh...I got on the scale this morning and I gained at least 6 pounds overnight. I thought I must be misreading it or something so I moved the scale and got on it again...the news only got worse. Up 7.6 pounds. :(

I did cheat a bit on my diet yesterday...Friday is my cheat day because I absolutely have to stop in time to go to work. lol I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast (2 cups with skim milk) Then I had a Kirkland brand chicken bake and bbq potato chips for lunch followed by a chicken breast and a heaping helping of broccoli before work. Certainly not enough to justify that kind of weight jump. I know it has to be water...but it's just a psychological bump. I was 151.4 yesterday morning (close enough to the 140s that I could almost taste it) and when I got on the scale this morning it said 157.4. I was sure I was misreading it so I got off the scale and got back on and it then read 159!!

I think I must be entering menopause as I haven't had a period since March and it is absolutely impossible that I am pregnant. I won't miss having periods if this is menopause.....but surely the water retention crap should stop with the periods, shouldn't it?

My weight dropped to 154.4 today and I expect at least 2 more pounds to be gone tomorrow.

Those pounds haven't disappeared...I'm just hovering between 154 and 156. :( It might be a portion control problem though. I'm not eating unhealthy...but with all those great vegetables coming on, I am eating large quantities. I don't think the green beans, zucchini, broccoli, cukes or tomatoes are the problem...but those new potatoes and sweet corn add up the calories a lot faster.

Hey there Judy :)

All those veggies your eating in mass quantities sound delish. New potatoes and sweet corn are tasty too. Hope your having a great summer in your paradise ;)

I just cannot do store bought canned veggies anymore. They just suck. I've been freezing corn and canning beans. Cukes are coming on strong so I've been eating lots and anticipating making pickles. I've usually just done sweet pickles but I think I'm gonna put up some dill pickles this year too. Much lower in calories than sweet pickles. :)

In the past two or three days i was eating up all the dill pickles we had in the fridge... Canned veggies aren't the same I do agree. I've kind of been on a salad kick lately...

garlic dill pickles -- doesn't get any better than that...
I've been awol...life has been busy. I did put up some garlic dills using a recipe I found online. I sampled them after only 7 days but I'm not thrilled. Do you happen to have a recipe? I used the McCormick spice recipe that I found...but it's really, really vinegary so far.

Hi Judy :)

Just catching up on your diary...did the mystery pounds disappear? 7lbs overnight has to be fluid retention, there is no way you could possibly eat enough in one day to gain that! I'm not sure if that is a common symptom of the menopause but my mum started to gain weight when she went throught it. It sort of evened itself out once her hormones were under control though.

Congrats on finishing the songbook :):)....and sorry to hear that you got stung on the butt!

All the pounds haven't disappeared...but I'm hovering between 153 and 157 and totally pigging out on veggies. I've decided that I just won't worry about weight loss until my garden is done. I know veggies aren't supposed to make you fat, but corn and potatoes aren't exactly diet food either. lol

I'm going to enjoy the fruits of my garden for now and I will worry about any weight gain once the garden is dormant and the produce is frozen/canned for the winter.

I did buy some yummy ginger dressing today at Costco. It's only 20 calories per tbsp and it was being demo-ed today. Ginger dressing on a mix of iceburg lettuce, grated carrots and shredded red cabbage with some almond slivers on top. Yummy!! I will consume that stuff when my garden is done.

I absolutely love ginger dressing....

It's also good as a mix-in for shrimp salad or chicken/turkey salad... has so much more flavor than plain old mayo does... or if you don't have garden availability - get the packaged cole slaw mix and use the ginger dressing for an amazing ginger slaw... :D (really good as a base for fish tacos.. )

I'm a city chick.. my recipe for garlic dill pickles is to find the best jewish deli town and get them ut of their pickle barrel :D

Alton Brown - I beleive - on the food network has made pickles on his show you might find a recipe there...

Eating out of your garden and living off the land sounds good to me. Those extra pounds will be gone in no time I'm sure. I would do the same thing your doing though. It's homegrown so you know its good :)

I mostly quit the diet coke because I felt like I drank it too much... I've quit in the past and started drinking it again. I just like the idea of iced tea or water or beer (occasionally) for now. I will probably have some diet coke or pepsi again eventually though....

Are you still going on runs around your property?

-Sam

Thanks for the additional ideas for the ginger dressing Mal. I haven't cracked the bottle open yet cuz I've got so much fresh produce to eat still. I like your recipe for dill pickles...but it doesn't help me use up the excess cukes from my garden. lol

Sammy, I haven't run lately....just using my Nordic Track and walking the dog after dinner. I somehow got into some poison ivy (although I don't know where) so I'm currently itchy as hell. It's mostly confined to my left wrist but I look like a leper or something...

Oh...and suddenly 5 of those pounds disappeared over night. I have no clue where they went, they disappeared as mysteriously as they appeared. :)

Life is slowing down a bit...corn is done from the garden but green beans are still producing. I'm also caught up in the stupid OJ trial. lol That's my weakness...watching trials.

On the bright side, my weight has stayed pretty stable between 151 and 155 so I'm not unhappy. :)

I knew you were a trial woman :) I haven't been watching any of the OJ trial, and I haven't really been over on the other boards... Glad to hear your happy with your weight and not putting any back on. I'm about where you are. I'm sitting pretty right between 210 and 215 :)...

Hey!

Sorry to hear about the poison ivy-- I think I might be immune to it... of course, I've never actively tried to get it (I'm not much of a glutton for punishment :p) but I've walked through woods filled with it and haven't gotten it even a little bit.

but yeah! Sounds like your garden produce is delish!
:D I wish I had a garden like that!!

The OJ trial is killing me with the long hours the judge puts in. By the time she recesses for the day it's 9 p.m. here!!! And she starts early in the day too...8 a.m. local time so 11 a.m here. Trial should be starting in about 10 minutes. I got my workout in, did a couple of loads of laundry, got meatloaf (my diet version of meatloaf) ready to go in the oven for dinner tonight, dishes done, kitchen cleaned and I'm ready to watch the trial.

Pathetic, huh? lol
