New to this site but I really like the idea of these journals. Sometimes it gets lonely when trying to make such drastic changes. My wife is also dieting (I am going to keep calling it a diet but they have reallt been life style changea) so I am not alone but sometimes you need others to help as well. There have been things that we thought were good and I found out we were wrong.

We started our diet on Jan 8th. I was at 300 (5 foot 11) pounds and feeling horrible about myself. My self esteem was super low. I would buy big and long shirts to try to hide myself. The bad thing is I know it is not hiding anything.

My main problem is drinking pop. We also eat out too much and fast food way too much.

As I said, on Jan 8th we decided to start. My goal is to get to 199 by Jan 31st next year and her goal is to lose 50 pounds by the same time. Right now we are not going to exercise at all but we have made small changes like parking at the end of lots and adding in extra steps everywhere we can. The reason we have decided this is 1, we are very busy and it is hard to work it in and 2, I am worried about plataeuing so I want there to be something easy to add down the road.

As far as food. We have each started weight watchers but the old version of it. I have all the books and I have an app from someone else so we elected t just stick to the old version. As part of that we have given up all pop and all fast food.

We are a little over a month into the journey and I am down 20 pounds and my wife is down 14 pounds. I am on day 42 of no pop.

Some days have been hard but overall I feel like we are both doing a great job so far.
 
Hi Barbiaux & welcome to the forum. Congratulations to the 2 of you for making the decision to get healthy & to slowly work on your fitness. A little bit of walking each day sure will help. To me, you have made one of the best decisions you could make- giving up pop & fast foods! WELL DONE!Look at you already- 20lbs & 14lbs down already. That is wonderful. I think you are doing a great job too :D

We actually tried to not drink any calories. I drink 1 cup of black coffee in the morning sometimes with a sweet n low.
For dinner we have a glass of water with mio or Kool aid in it. Probably not the best of things to drink but better than pop. Other than that it is mostly water and maybe 1 time a week I will have a hot chocolate or milk. At first I was drinking orange juice until I realized how bad that is for you.
 
Oh man, those fruit juices are so bad. They look healthy but they're the complete opposite. Good on you for ditching the sugar drinks! I switched to diet, as I found by cutting out soda all the way was too much. I've been sugar-drink free for 4 years now, in fact, I prefer the diet now.

Sounds like you're finding success so far, you and your wife. Congrats on the 20lb milestone. These journals are awesome for staying on track, and if you do have a bad day, don't be afraid to tell us. That's what we're here for, the good and the bad :). Keep it up!
 
Update:
I do my official weigh ins on Monday morning. Today I am down to 278.2 for a 3.4 pound loss this week. My next short term goal is 6.2 more pounds over the next 3 weeks. That will put me at my lowest since 2007ish. I never really paid attention before so that is just an estimate.

I fear the summer. I am the only person that I know that gains weight over the sunmer. I LOVE BBQ, ice cream, and pop. Over last summer I spent every weekend for a month digging footers and building a deck. I gained 6 pounds that month. At th e end of the day I would have a big glass of pepsi and a nice bowl of ice cream. Love love love ice cream. Going to be strong and go at least this summer with a rare treat and no strawberry cheesecake blizzards.

Here's to another week of hard work.
 
Today was a weird day for me, eating wise. Yesterday I was off work and our kids were staying over my parents house. We slept in a little and made a late breakfast. I made an fried egg sandwich with a little cheese. We had some stores to go to so we stopped at chilis for a late lunch. We both ate chicken fajitas with side salad. That was plenty for lunch and dinner.

Then today I just wasnt hungry at all. I stoll felt full in the morning so I had black coffee and some water. During my work day the only thing I ate was celery and a peanut butter sandwhich. For dinner I had a bowl of chili and 5 crackers. That is all I ate and I still feel full. Maybe my stomach isnshrinking?
 
Day 45 of no pop

Had a good day overall.
Break fast
Cup of strawberries and black coffee with 1 packet of sweet and low

Lunch
1.5 tbls of peanut butter on 2 slices of white bread

Snacks at work
Fiber 1 coffee cake
Snack bag full of celery

Dinner
We made tacos
2 fiber 1 tortilla shells
6 ounces total of 93/7 meat drained well
1/4 cup total shredded cheesee
1 tbls total light sour cream
Salsa and lettuce
Also made a large salad with light Italian and no cheese or croutons.

I will also have a snack later on. Probably a weight watchers ice cream bar.

Drinks
16 ounce of water with 0 Cal additive
50 ounces of water so far.

I am allowed 40 points on weight watchers and I will end the day at 35 points.

No exercise at all planned for today.
 
I am driving everyone crazy around me but I just don't care. I am so focused on this diet that I will succeed. If you are not with me then you are against me.
 
Day 46 of no pop

We went to Wendy's today for dinner. I still stayed within my points so that is good.

Breakfast
Cup of strawberries and water

Lunch
Peanut butter sandwhich

Work snacks
Celery and snack bag of baked lays chips

Dinner
Jr hamburger, small chili, 4 nuggets, and mini frosy

No night snack.

Drinks, had only 64 ounces of water all day.
 
Day 47 of no pop.

We went over to my parents this evening. They had pizza for dinner but we had eaten prior. Even so it was tough to resist a meat lovers stuffed crust pizza but I did.

Breakfast
I was in a hurry for work so I skipped it today. I did have a cup of black coffee.

Lunch
My normal peanut butter sandwhich.

Snacks
Nag of celery, fiber 1 coffee cake, fiber 1 granola bar

Dinner
We had left over taco meat so we just did tacos again, same as the other day.

Drinks
I n addition to the black coffee I had 80 ounces of water.
 
Day 48 of no pop

Weekends are tough for me. I find it easy to be disciplined during the week with work. Today was a lazy day. Our 5 year old is obsessed with star wars so we watched the first 3 for the 19th time today. Other than that I did absolutely nothing.

We had a late breakfast around 1030 so that was lunch and dinner. I had 3 medium pancakes with light syrup.

For dinner I had a bowl of homemade chili, 1 hot dog no bun, and a handful of Ritz crackers.

I will finish the day at 33 of my 40 ww points. I did very bad with liquid today. Had a small glass of milk and only 2 bottles of water.
 
Day 49 of no pop

On Sundays I generally play poker all day. So I played for about 12 hours. Problem with that is I forget to eat. I had a granola bar for breakfast. While playing I have 9 bottles of water and 2 coffees with sweet n low. I was hungry when I got home and couldn't come up with anything to eat so I had 12 Ritz crackers with some cream cheese on them.

Owell at least I didn't overeat. Tomorrow I plan on eating well to get the calories back.
 
Hey Barbiaux, looks like you're on a good track. Regarding your poker day, just think of it as a fasting day, then it's healthy! Joking aside, one day isn't a big deal, especially since you clearly stayed hydrated.
 
LJ, I had thought that as well. Then I read that a fasting day is bad. Who knows these days. There is an article that would prove or disprove amy idea.
 
Well today almost went south but I recouped well. We had decided early to go to pizza hut for lunch. My son loves pizza hut and if you get a medium pizza with only veggies it is only 4 points per slice.

So anyways, we walk in and they half the buffet going. We decided to get buffet but I stuck with cheese pizza, breadsticks, and a fee cinnamon sticks. I ended up eating 28 points. However I bad no points for breakfast and I was still full for dinner so I just had a salad and some fruit. I stayed under my points for the day.
 
Day 51 of no pop

Today I was back on track.
Can't type right now but I had my normal breakfast and lunch. For dinner had some chili and a hot dog with some veggies.
