Backspace's Journal and image gallery!

So far have eaten pretty clean today despite a sausage roll for mid afternoon

Big work out today, was trying to shock my body so I took some advice and increased weight. Really want to join a gym so I can get most out of training.

After work out I rode my gf's bike around to my mates house and started punching his bag. I miss martial arts.

Just had a salad and salmon. mmm

Need to build the amount of healthy food I can cook.

Get bike tomorrow! start my full on training!

G'day mate.

If you feel like eating a lot of junk food, take time to learn your self how unsatisfying it is after eating it.

If you're full from healthy food, crap food will look like crap/uninteresting.

If you completely break down and eat crap, really take time to reflect after doing it. Are you glad you had that triple bacon cheese burger? No. Its only good for the seconds it takes you to consume it.

I think that the more this principle sinks in, the easier it is to avoid, and after a certain time "off" the junk food, it will all look like the crap it is.

Breath! Take a deep breath! It'll all be ok. :)

Kidding aside.

What stroke will you use? Could you do 100m x3 in one session? x4 ? x5 ? Let's say you can do 100m x3. Maybe next week you can do 150 x3. Maybe not. Swimming is the one thing that isn't going to hurt you. Just go slow. Go slow and BREATH.

I have recently lost a significant amount of money in the market and therefore consider myself a bad financial advisor. I think you should do what's best for you and tell me what you have at your (facility) disposal.

If you don't have access to a pool, where will you swim?

Ideally, you'd ride a bicycle but a stionary bike "could" be used. Honestly though, I rode a spinner bike a few years ago to stay inside. Huge mistake. The miles do not equate. I do almost all of my rides outside... even in the rain.

If you are concerned about lifting and swimming, don't do it. I am constantly having conversations with my coach on what I think is best. You know you better than I do. I can lift and swim and I also lift before I swim. Sometimes they are on separate days. Sometimes one is in the morning, the other the afternoon.

There are two schools of thought on lifting. I have no idea which is right but " I " think you can strike a balance and I also think it depends on how you're lifting. I've been pondering this thought recently and have come up with a new protocol for me specifically which involves heavier lifting during the base periods and then as I reach the build period, I will lighten up but increase the count.

Do you like to lift?

If it seems massive, don't look at it like that. Don't look at the entire program or even the entire week. Just look at one day or one workout. Get through that and then look at the next.

You can do this!!

Now what's all this stuff about my pic? I look big? Really? I swear I'm not.

I am planning on using freestyle. I think I could go perhaps 4 laps (200m) in one session, and will probably improve quickly. I am glad I can just aim for the 1000 yard swim, rather than have to pull it off in one go! We have a pool near by and it is not going to be a big finical hit to go or anything. There is a Gym where I can pay $12.50 per week (as my friend works there) which has a pool very close. And I could ride there :). But they make you lock into massive contracts which is just stupid.

I will ride outside, I went for a bit of a ride on my GF's bike yesterday, it was nice. I have to go get some riding clothes.

In regards to my lifting, I may have to make a sacrifice. If you look at my pictures you can see I still have some flab going strong. This is due to my diet alone. I am on day three of mission eat well, and I feel great and better for it. Thank you RIDEANDSHOOT for you kind advice. Next time I eat crap I will sit and think about it.

Therefore doing this training should shred the fat and rip me out, but at the same time, I am going to lose muscle due to the training. I don't mind to much.

I like how you said I should take it one day at a time. I can't wait to run this arvo.

With lifting I will post here and ask some advice.

I am sorry to hear that you lost money.

What is the limiting factor on 4 laps? What happens if you slow down? What happens if you do two laps, rest, two more laps, and rest. Can you do two more?

You can aim for 1000 and not complete it but you can't use it as an excuse to never complete it. Know what I mean? Whether it's this goal or the next or dieting or whatever, it's about testing your limits.

Whether or not you do weights, this will put you in better shape.

Don't sweat my monetary loss, you don't actually lose anything until you SELL. I haven't sold anything. In fact, I think it's a buyers market. One just needs nerves of steel to pull the trigger on a buy and watch the market tank another 1500 points. But I digress.

Lol, let's do this.

I have my bike in front of me right now, I ca't wait.

It is sooo cool (the bike, I willl post pic soon).

One of my friends works in a massive gym chain here and can get me cheape fees. It is right near a smimming pool also!

I am getting the gym hook up tommorow.

As for the training, the swim and bike will be fun! Cheers for your support dude.

I just got gym membership!

yaya! New bike and membership all in less than 24hrs. I need riding clothes and a muscle top now lol.

^^ I need bike shorts, sports are expensive! I don’t want to get chaffing, I just felt some sweat build up after the ride. Mind you I am getting nix that have a cargo short on the outside.

I just completed my first training session. Star new job on Mon so is perfect time to fully get into training pattern.

I went to the pool, and I swam my guts out, and nearly completed one lap.

I rested, then had another go, once again fail on the lap. Went back with different stoke, fail on lap. Resting after each lap, I did about 6, or 3oom.

At one point I hated it in the water and wanted to quit. But at the end, I felt great. I think I will improve quickly.

Then I went to the bike shop, got my bike computer fixed and adjusted, and rode 10km. I have heaps of great bike paths here so it really nice, and hard. I tried to push myself. I got it up to 43km hr on a slight down hill. I am starting to trust my bike.

I might stop lifting and focus on this training, or change my program to high rep low weight training.

Have ten year school reunion tonight, ???___::""OPPP"OOO??

I don't have a yacht, or helicopter like I planned, but I am far richer in other ways that I did not imagine.

Aw thanks Backspace. I can't take credit for that title, though ;)

When I finally come up with something clever, I'll ask the mods to change it :)

Week2

Monday: Swim 500yd, weights
Tuesday: Bike 14 miles
Wednesday: Run 2.5 miles
Thursday: Off
Friday: Swim 500yds, weights
Saturday: Bike 16 miles
Sunday: Run 2.5 miles

Post your week in review so I can see what you've accomplished.

Today Swimming 300 m (328 yards)

Did one lap freestyle, then stopped, did a half freestyle. Then breath stroke.

I then completed the 6 laps doing a few different strokes. Last time I was unable to get one full lap in. I tried to push myself. I did this in my lunch break at my new job, pool is very close by.

I get to this point where my mind is saying "Hey tom, you don't have to do this, why are you doing this?" And I keep pushing through. I have not swam laps for many years so I need to condition myself.

I am about to go to gym and do weights.

Report on last week, (I started late due to various crap such as getting bike late, and finishing new job {which meant after work drinks})

Tuesday Weights

Thursday Weights (smaller session)
Thursday small bike ride (about 3km, getting used to bike)
Friday Small bike ride again
Saturday lame 300m swim and then 10km bike ride
Sunday 1hour of soccer acting as striker mostly, plus four laps of oval. Total is equal to over 2.5 miles

Clean eating all day today. New completely new program for gym but don't want to pay 69.95 grr

Did 1 hr in gym, first time I have been properly there since signing up.

IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING I LOVE IT!

I was smashing weights, I could feel it so much more, I was able to adapt my program to the gym, I WAS ABLE TO USE A SQUAT RACK!

I can't wait for next Friday. I need to pay money to get a personal trainer for three sessions and get shown around. I am taking all data in. Then I am emailing it to Garry who developed my initial program.

Also I have eaten clean all day.

Bike tomorrow. Thinking about going in the morning but not sure if I am ready. Just spent over 100 on food and it is barley one weeks worth and only includes 2 dinners. But damn it was some healthy food.

Good job on sticking to it!

What is limiting you in the water? Air or muscle?
