I’m sort of new here, 1 week old, 24 year old male. I’ve always been trying to lose weight throughout my life and failed, but recently decided that this was it. I’m going to stick on this new diet plan and make it apart of my life. I’m using motivation from school and other personal life to fuel my drive to keep me with the diet.

When I first started to lurk on these boards on 4/5/06, I was weighing in at a whopping 331 pounds. To set a short-term goal, I want to get to 299. When I get there, I will work on the long-term goal of getting at a comfortable weight of 220-230, and to build a good deal of muscle. There is no specific time-set for these goals. But I want to hit 299 in 1-2 months or less.

I have a simple diet plan currently that I’m working on. It’s a low carb-high protein diet. For breakfast and dinner, I drink a protein shake made with skim milk. During lunch time, I eat protein, either chicken or tuna with light dressing and low on sodium on whole wheat bread. After a week of experimenting with this, I like it. I’m not too hungry throughout the day, but if I do get hungry, I snack on fruit or low fat yogurt and do count the calories. I’m trying to maintain caloric intake of 1300-1500. Of course, I drink PLENTY of water, and this is not hard to do because I love ice cold water.

For exercise, I have a Bowflex and in process of mapping out a work-out routine. And with that, I play tennis 3-5 times a week depending on schedule and my tennis partner.

Started - 4/5/06 – 331lbs.
Today – 4/15/06 – 323 (weight was fluxuating between 321 AND 323maybe due to fluid loss, so I just took the highest).

So far an 8 pound loss! Now, being a pessimistic person as I am, I do realize depending on the time of day I weight myself, it might be differ, so I have decided to weight and report official loss or gain to the diary on Saturday mornings on an empty stomach, right after I wake up.

Sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of what it is that you need to do! 8 lbs in 10 days is a very good rate, and I would be very encouraged by that if I were you. :) I've heard that those who are more overweight are able to lose weight easier to start, because its hard to maintain that kind of size! So 30 or so pounds in a couple of months would be very reasonable - just don't expect it to last forever ;)

Keep us up dated on your progress, I can't wait to read all about it!

Thanks for the encouraging reply!

I'm pretty confident that this time I can finally do it. This forum certainly helps a lot. Being around people that is going thru the same thing gives me a drive to the goal, so we'll see. :D

Always nice to see another male on here

Hi Kinyo-

It may not be my place, and I'm not trying to criticize, but please be careful keeping the calorie count that low. It sounds very extreme.

Other than that, good luck, and I look forward to following your progress.

Thanks for the concern. Is it due to my weight currently that I need more calories for the body or something? I usually keep myself in good knowledge in losing the weight healthily, etc, but I'm definitely not starving myself though.

I do however just crave some food during the evening but it isn't unbareable. For the past week if I did get too hungry I'd grab a banana or eat some other fruit.

Good looking out though. :D

Yes, because of your body weight sir :)

Hi Kinyo,

I know each of our bodies are different, so, if it's working for you, hell, keep at it until it doesn't work :)

I"m just suprised you are able to keep up with all that activity with so few calories. Just call me jealous ;)

I think if you maintain about 1300-1500 calories you should be fine. You can actually even do maybe 1500-1800 calories a day and still lose weight. You shouldn't go under though. Anymore lost calories, it'd actually be HARDER for you to lose weight cause your body's metabolism will slow further since it thinks it's going to starve so it needs to begin to conserve energy and fat. Plus you should know that from the daily amount of nutrition one needs, he/she should have gotten at least 1200 calories a day to get all that nutrition. So make sure you're eating all your veggies. Don't want to get malnourished!

Thanks guys for the excellent input. Unfortunately, I guess today is going to be my cheat day lol. Slipped a little during lunch but will get back on track tomorrow.

Back on track for the day, so nothing much to report other than these damn protein shakes giving me a lot of gas. Happily to say, they're the "oderless" ones.

Had a good day yesterday, I need to stop weighing myself throughout the day, everyday. I never really realized how weight fluxuates throughout the day!

Nice to see you are back on track sir. I had a slip day myself yesterday. Damn evil food!

Oh no, don't do the weighing yourself all the time thing!!! It's super bad! If you do want to do it daily, I'd advised doing it first thing after the morning piss. You'll probably drop 3 pounds just from that :)

Yea, temptations are a bitch :(.

I added some new motivation to my weight loss. I visited my doctor the other day and now want to surprise him on the next check up (July 14th) with a good amount of weight lost.

He advised me 1 pound per week is most healthy, if I meet that goal, I'll be satisfied.

Weekly weight-in on Saturday mornings...The verdict? 326...

Hmm not sure what's going on; for the past few days I weight myself in the morning and it would be drastically different when I weigh myself in the afternoon/evening. I hope it just goes downward from now on.

don't worry. could be water weight too. if you're drinking more water now, you will retain it. plus when you start losing weight, your body will try to resist a lil. but just keep doing what you're doing, and your metabolism should rise and the weight will continue to drop. so keep at it!

Feeling good today. I actually feel thin! I tried on a shirt that was a bit tight for me a few weeks ago, now its quite loose, but need to shed a few more pounds to make it a comfertable fit.

I did step on the scale today and saw a nice number ;). Hopefully it will carry thru to Saturday!

:D

Thanks Jess,

and my weekly weigh-in verdict is....321 pounds. This time I hope I don't gain next week!

I'm also off for a weekend to Boston, hopefully the temptations won't get the best of me.

Have a good weekend, everybody. :D
