ArchRaw's Journal

My mission today was to get a new bike so that I can get some motivation nd go riding. I like biking more than just walking and because the bike paths here have a bunch of hills it will help very the intensity of my activity a few times each ride. It took me most of the morning and half the afternoon before I found a bike I liked, then I got a few accessories like a pair of toe clips, a bell (it is law to have a bell on your bike here), and a water bottle cage. Any way by the time I got all that stuff on my bike and mowed the lawn the thunderstorms came in and dumped on us so I didn't get a chance to try out the bike. Other than just a quick jont around the block so I could get the feel of the shifters.

Any way by this time next week I am committing myself to get in at least 4 one hour rides. I am looking forward to it, my old bike was starting to fall apart and it wasn't much fun to ride anymore.

Finding an exercise routine that works for you can be one of the most difficult parts of this, but it sounds like you have found one.

I tell you some time I just can't get a break. So I got my new bike and got it all set up and ready to go. You know you're in bad shape when you get an injury setting up a piece of equipment. Not sure what happened but I got up today and my left knee is killing me. It is sore kind of around the knee cap mostly on the top. This is unusual for me. I have never had a problem with my knees before. But at any rate I can't ride, even driving my standard Jeep is hard to use the clutch. This little set back kind of makes me mad. I am still doing good at eating the correct foods but I think exercise is out of the question untill this problem goes away. I don't know, it hurts pretty bad, if resting it for a week or so doesn't do the trick I may need to go see a doctor. This has never happend before, kind of disappointing.

The knee seems to be feeling a bit better this morning then it did yesterday. If it goes this way for the rest of the week I hope to be out on the road next week after the long weekend.

Finaly my knee has enough flexability again that I was able to get out riding my bike. I went for a couple hours today. The good thing about Calgary is we have a great bike path system. You can get almost anyplace in the city on the bike paths. This good because Calgary is also partly in a river valley, this means there are lots of hills with different levels of steepness, this give a good varied workout. At any rate I am glad to be able to get out there and get some exercise again. This is going to be pretty helpfull.

I am trying to do my bike rides around noon time now. I work at home so depending on what work I have to get out the door it could be noon or anytime I can get free. Today I did 50 mins at about 130pm. I was expecting an hour so next ride my turn around point will be a little further away. At times when I pass people I feel like they are looking at me funny, kind of like "poor bike", LOL. But I am getting over that feeling and pushing forwards. Once again tomorrow I will ride at around noon time. I feel great after taking the rides and I need to remeber that feeling when I get lazy. The eating is going good. Still sticking with lots of water, fruits, and vegies. Odf course I am still using the BBQ but adding lots more veggies and less meat. Thiis is going to happen for me. My mind set is different than other times I have tried. Now I am doing not trying. I will not let bumps in the road hold me back and I will reach my goal.

Been a while since I posted here. i am still at it, I went away for a long vacation but am back at it. Time to start posting here again and keep moving.

Ahhh vacations... hope it was a great one. Good luck with getting back on track. Its what separates the average from the winners (which in our case is the lucky losers!).

Hope your day goes great!

Getting back on track has been pretty good. I went for two 2 hour rides and two 1 hour rides over the week and ate well. I am just having my morning coffee (black) with some plain yogurt w/ a banana in it along with a fruit cup for breakfast and then I will head out on the path ways for a good long sunday ride. Feeling pretty good today, lots of energy. I love it when you look forward to execise rather than having to force you're self to go.

Still hard at it. I am drinking a ton of water and getting out on my bike every day. The eating is going well this week. Haven't been craving any bad stuff at all. That really helps. I am starting to get to a point where I realy want to get out for some activity and don't have to drag my lazy ass off of the couch. All of this has given me more energy and a clearer mind while working.

Also I have a new motivation factor. Just found out that one year from a couple of weeks ago I will be going to my 10 year university reunion. I want to look and feel healthy when I go. Looking forward to it.

I do have some good new habits starting to form. Today when I got a little bad news about a project I am working on that ticked me off a bit. Insead of going to the fridge and stuffing something in my body my first reaction was to get out on my bike and go for ride. I can handle this healthy living stuff, it is starting toi change a bunch of little things and I just started.

Welcome back! Glad to hear you're still at it. Consistancy is the key. Are you still able to ride your bike? Or has winter settled in? We've had snow on the ground for over a week now. :ack2:

We had some snow here the last couple of weeks but the snow is now off of the roads so I will just bundle up and get back out there. The cold is no problem for me as long as the road is dry. I lost about 12 LBS between now and my last post, so i am not dropping at a record rate but feel good about my progress. Posting in here will still help though, I will try to keep connected, thanks for the post!!!
