record pound dropping is overrated. from what I hear its slow & steady that wins the race. As long as you stay in the game you are doing great.

Glad to see you are back posting again.

For sure, slow is the way to go. Still to icy out for riding but I am eating great. Just have to keep at it and take it easy over the christmass time where everyone I know is goint to try and feed me, LOL.

There will be a few days during the holidays where I've already told myself I'm gonna eat whatever I want. Sure I'll gain a few pounds, but it's worth it to enjoy myself. I'll shed those gained pounds pretty quickly once I start eating right again. :)

So don't worry if you give in to temptation once in a while. It helps keep us sane...lol

It is crazy how the body operates some times I think. I had a bunch of family dinners over the last week and some other junk. Thought for sure I had put some back on, but for some reason when I stepped on the scale today I was actualy down a couple of pounds. Maybe I am dehydrated from all that wine?

I wish everyone that reads this a great and happy new year. I will be glad to get through the entire Christmas/New year season though. I think I have made it through relatively unscathed. It is kind of funny that most other years I have made the weight loss resolution but it never happened. This year I have a 30lbs head start and a much better mind set. Here is to 2008!!!

I have been able to get out on my Bike for the last 3 days. The cold and snow isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The first day it was -8c and Tues-Wed. was around +2c. On that I think it will be ok to get out there down to about -10c to -15c. Just bundled up is some ski gear and it worked out pretty well. Going to try and do it as much as possible through the winter.

Well the temp. has not been to bad so I got my 4th day in a row out on the bike today in the snow. It will be 2c Saturday so I will get back out there again tomorrow. They are doing some construction on the buke path now under a bridge so that has been my turn around point the last week. That is about 1/2 the way I was going in the summer. I have felt better each day so I want to go further. I checked out a map and figured a way on the city streets to get by the construction so that I can hit the climbs I was doing in the summer. They don't forcast snow until next Thursday so I should be good with taking just Sunday off. I will give it a chance when it is snowing as well. This riding in the winter isn't as bad as I thought it may be.

Congrats on being down a few lbs over the holidays. That's an accomplishment of which to be proud! I also admire your efforts to ride your bike even in the cold weather. We have about a third of a meter of snow on the ground here, plus it's been cold. So I've stopped walking--especially as there's no path, and the snowbanks along the road are fairly high. I stick to the gym and my stationary bike this time of year. Call me a wuss. :D

Well, I ended up taking Saturday off and when for a ride today. It was a good one. The path was open at the area of construction so I went the full distance I was doing in the summer. It made it a great work out because alot of the path is hard packed snow so the going was much harder. It took 1 1/2 hours to do what I was doing in an hour in the summer. No gliding happens when you are on hard packed snow. I felt great when I was done but my toes were realy getting cold. It wasn't to bad temperature wise, about 0c today.

We are pretty lucky in Calgary snow wise. We don't get all that much but it does stay pretty cold through the winter. And of course there is no snow clearing on the biuke paths so the hard pack pretty much sticks around unless we get a chinook.

Exercising in the snow?! :ack2: I don't see how you can handle it! Then again, I'm from a climate where I haven't seen snow in about fifteen years....:D

Great job getting out there in the inclement weather, though!

Nope, you wouldn't see me out bike riding in hard, packed snow..lol. I'll stay inside, thanks. But that has got to be a great workout for you, being harder to do and all. Speaking of chinooks...it's currently 10C here atm and now all the snow is melting. Our driveway is mud..lol.

Do you do any weight training in addition to the bike riding?

I have a friend who lives in Calgary. She likes it, but says housing prices are crazy expensive--at least they were a few years ago. Is it still that way?

yeah, the housing prices are crazy here. A 1200s.f. bungelow in a decent area of the city run about 350,000-500,000. Even the condos are bad. A 900-1200s.f. condo could run around 300,000-400,000. No conversion needed between US and Canadian Dollars anymore because they are about even these days. In an upper end community a 2 story 3000 s.f. house can cost between $1.5-$2.0 million.

I have not been weight training, I should join a gym but doing what I am doing seems to take enough time out of my day. It would be good when the weather gets realy bad but I like to get outside.

That was my mind set a little while back but then realized that I used to go skiing in much colder weather. So i gave it a try and it has not been that bad at all. It all has to do with the clothes.:santa:

Wow! That's pretty bad. Here where I live, you can get a 900-1200sqft condo for under $120K. A newer 3000sqft house can be had for $275K. Yeah, don't remind me of the week US$...lol. Makes travelling internationally suck these days. :(

yesterday was fun, got a flat tire on my bike when I was a good 45mins away from my starting point. I have learned my lesson, I will get a pump that attaches to the bike and keep a spair tube with me from now on. Didn't have time to fix the flat yet so I walked for an hour today.

Dude, that is NOT fun! Good to hear you made it back in one piece. :D

Well, I got out to the store today to get a new tube and repair kit. Should be riding again tomorrow. It is going up to 5c on the weekend so that should be nice.
