Anna's Diary

I went to a lunchtime step class and quite enjoyed it. I normally exercise in the morning or evening, never in the middle of the day. I felt quite energised for the afternoon when I'm normally desperate for a nap.

Weigh in day tommorrow. I'm keen to see how I've done this week, I'm always worried about the scales, even though I'm more interested in how my clothes fit etc.

After reading the stickies (again), I put my calories up slightly and I'm aiming for between 1800 and 2000, before I was being really strict to keep it below 1800. I'm trying to relax a little with the food, but not relax the type of food I'm eating (low in refined sugar moderate protein etc lots of vege etc).

Hey Ana,
Good to hear you are enjoying step :) and nice work getting a workout in in the afternoon.

Dont worry, you are not alone. Too many of us are too preoccupied with what the scale will tell us. Way to go for using how your clothes fit to guage your progress-though i know how the scale can sometimes override that. Keep focused on how you feel though (and of course how your clothes fit) and eventually the scale wont hold so much power over you (thats what i keep telling myself anyway) :p

Keep up with your regular workouts ana! you're doing great :)

So the scales were up a little this morning... I'm not too worried (although i really hated seeing the extra 400g).

Steve and I decided to get up at 5.30am to go to early yoga, because it was the only time we could go together. I really love it that we go together. I thought it would be energising, but I was tired all day. I got home from yoga and had to take the poor dog for a walk (she jumps out of her skin if she doesn't get a decent walk), and I was knackered after that. Luckily its been really quiet at work so I could just hang out.

Anyway i thought I needed a motivater after the scales were up so I got out some 3/4 jeans that I couldn't get into this time last year (I took them on holiday and then couldn't wear them), and THEY FIT!!! Not only can I get them on and zipped up, but there is almost no 'muffin' and I can sit down and breathe while wearing them. Its so cool, I've worn them to work even though its quite a cool day.

So I think I must be losing fat even though the scales haven't shown it this time.

YAYAY bring on tommorrow so I can continue this journey.

I was reading the sticky about weighing yourself and why that isn't maybe the best way of doing things... Made sense to me too (thanks Steve).

Although I don't think I'll stop weighing myself in a hurry, I'm going to stop doing it so often.

I thought about some other ways of measuring weight loss, and one thing that I've got is a pair of jeans that I really loved that I don't fit anymore. I think they are a slim fit 14. They'd be awesome to get into because I used to feel 'fine' wearing them. If I could be wearing them in December on holiday that'd be great!

So I think they are my next non-weight goal. (also still wanting to get into my wetsuit... but the jeans are more motivational to me!)

I've got a couple of other items of clothing that would follow on (a couple of dresses that I haven't been in for a decade at least... they're classics!)

Today's been good.

30 min walk/jog
90 min hot yoga

id say better than good! nice workout for the day!!

I have a few shirts that i want to fit in again as well. I cant wait until i have a flat stomach so i can finally feel comfortable wearing them!!

We're going to do this!

We sure are! I'm so determined this time. It feels like nothing can get in my way.

I've got a long weekend starting today. I'm going to take my bike to the forest and take the dog for a big run (me on the bike). I thought I might go to the pool later. I haven't been for about a year, but I'd like to get some swimming fitness happening.

Got to go, back later.

What kind of dog do you have anna? I wish I could go roller blading or biking with mine - but he's so damn excitable and so fast I forsee nothing but scrapes and blood for me if we were to try.

My dog is a bearded collie/huntaway (a bit of a mixer)... She is really high energy and needs lots of exercise. I think she is the only reason I managed to maintain the same weight over the last couple of years.

She is a bit silly, but mostly stays out of the way of the bike, at the forest where we ride she doesn't need to be on a lead and can race around. I can't imagine being on blades and having to hold onto her lead! She'd go CRAZY.

Well my I thought my weekend was a write off on the whole weight loss front. I went away with my family to our cottage near the mountains, which normally means snack snack drinkdrink sit around lazing... however...

This time we were doing some maintainence so I ended up working my butt off. My neice and nephews were there, so I had to do quite a bit of playing as well. We played 'whats the time mr wolf' and hide and seek and statues and badminton (sort of they're just little kids). Man i was puffed.

Yesterday I went for a jog before we left for the cottage and I tried upping the pace doing interval training of a sort. I've got a rugby field I jog around so I'd go hard out for one long side then jog the next 2 sides then walk back to the start. I could only do it a couple of times and just jogged slowly the rest of the time. It was full on but fun. I'll try to get that into my weekly plan I think.

So I just updated my calorie counter (no internet at the cottage), and yesterday I was about even and today so far I'm on track for a deficit... yay... I thought there was no chance!

I'm going to sit down and plan my super exercise week spectacular (it'll be very similar to last week I imagine), I do much better when I have a plan.

I've got the early shift then night shift tonight... sigh... I hate night shift...I'll just want to eat lollies!

I'm eating well so fat today, and I'll be exercising later, just yoga today.

I hope to see a change downwards on the scale this week, its been hovering around 93.7 for about a week.... boring.

nice job on your eating and workouts ana :)

is lollies another word for candy? or is it a particular type of candy? i was working at a child care centre once and this little guy kept saying i want lollies- i always thought it was a short way of saying lollipops... guess not? he was such a cutie -fun personality too

i know its frustrating to not see the scale go down, but maintenance is much better than weight gain. and since you've been maintaining for a while, and eating right and exercising, the scale will go down in no time :)

thats what happens with me anyway, ill maintain at a certain weight for a while, then go down 2-3 pounds all at once...

Hi Anna,

I so know what you mean by getting affected by what the scale tells me. That was me three weeks ago, and I know it will be me again next week during TOM. I have decided not to go near the scales during TOM. So I weigh every week but skip a week during TOM. Lets see if it works.

Not sure what the relationship is between inches lost and weight lost. I think you can be same weight, but your body gets more toned due to exercise and good diet. I usually know I am doing ok, when I feel my clothes fit me better, I feel lighter etc. So I think you are spot on to base your judgement on how you body feels (through clothes etc). And don't beat yourself up about being a lil affected by what the scales tell you. After all we are all humans.

And way to go on the workouts.

I am back on my normal schedule, so should be posting more regularly. Did you start C25k? If you are looking for a buddy, I am starting with week two from tomorrow (wed). Join in. :)

Later

Hey nightrunner,, yes lollies are candy... and I ate a whole packet on night shift last night, I feel so dumb, and I didn't even like them! It's a classic sign of why I;m overweight now I reckon. sigh

I just did W1D1 of the c25k today Juni! I think I'll go straight to week2 so I'll be doing that the same week as you! I downloaded some podcast and it was pretty cool, kept me going which was good.

I ate really well today (not couting the candy in the middle of the night!, I'll call that yesterday though.

So today I'm back on track with a 35min walk/jog and then yoga.

Its my weigh in day tommorrow, so we'll see how that goes.

Ana

hi anna,
It's my weigh-in day tomorrow too so lets make today a great day. I'm going to try and move around more at work and stick to my eating plan. Hope you have a good day too! i'll check back tomorrow to see how you did.

yaaaaaay!!!!!! im sooo psyched that you are doing c25k with us ana!!!!!
woot wooot :)

when its around the TOM i stop questioning my eating habits-i dont know if its all hormones but i eat and crave food as though ive been deprived for months-and after the fact or even during, im like "im not even hungry" but i still cant stop eating!-so whatever i just consider it a small blip and move on :driving:

Yaya!! If you started C25k today, then we'll finish together. Yay!! So excited about this. Makes me totally motivated.

Nightrunner, we're catching up with you soon.

Hey Anna

Congrats on how you're going so far.

I have yet another question to ask you about bikram yoga if you don't mind. I was talking about thinking about doing it to my mum tonight and she says it sounds like something she would want to try. However she is a little bit worried she would be too old and out of shape. She is in her early 50s and a size 18 and quite unflexible. Are there many older/heavier/unflexible people that do it? The website says you can be all of those things and you'll be fine but they aren't totally believable!

Cheers!

Hey girls thanks for all the visits :)

I weighed this morning and the scales had DROPPED!!! I was shocked, over the last week they went up about a kilo, and then today they're down to 92.4kg! thats 203 lbs for the americans :coolgleamA:

Since I started thats almost 5k lost!!!! Its so cool. Its the feedback I needed, I put my calories up slightly and was worried it might be too much, but must be ok! My first goal is to be below 90kg by Dec so I'm well on track!

YAYAYAY

I guess I'll weigh again on Fri and they might have gone up a bit again, but hopefully not back up to 94 k... its such a mind game.

I overdid the exercise yesterday, so I tried to keep active today without going to hard. I walked the dog twice (about an hour all together) at a very easy pace, and I went to yoga and really focused on my form which was good for my mind.

Anyways I'll be starting W2 D1 tommorrow, wish me luck!
