Anna's Diary

I went back to work after 3 weeks holiday today.

I was determined to keep up my exercise so managed to go for a jog (30 min) and do a yoga class, so I'm happy about that. I organised food to take to work and that was okay too. I ate more bread/rice type carbs than I have been lately but my calories were still in line.

I've been reading so much on this forum and I've gotten a bit confused about how much I should be eating. I'll just stick to my first plan of about 1800 cal a day and lots of exercise. Its all a bit confusing, I'll wait and see what happens on the scales before I make any more adjustments. I'm finding it hard to believe that I'll actually lose weight and reach my goal. It's hard to trust myself I guess. It's really early days and this is for life (not a quick fix).

I'm trying to come up with realistic mini goals and rewards.

I'd really like to reach 89kg asap. It'd be hugely motivating for me.

Thats a 6kg weight loss from where I am now. @ 500g a week that would be 12 weeks from now. In about 14 weeks we are going on our summer holiday, so when I reach 89 kg (before my summer holiday) I'm going to get a new swimsuit to show of my slightly smaller more toned self!

My next goal will be to maintain the loss through Dec/Jan..... (xmas eeek)

I'm so tired. I did my morning jog again today and I did 30m a@148bpm. I really need to make a good playlist, at the moment I'm doing it on shuffle and keep getting the sad slow songs!

Anyone got any good song ideas to listen to?

I couldn't go to yoga today because of work. Its prob good to have a rest day as I've been every day for 6 days. I did some lunges and sit ups instead.

I ate 1850 cal which is within my limit so that is good. I keep thinking i'm eating to much and I felt guilty when I had an evening snack even though I was within my cal limit. It's such a mind game.

I'm a shift worker and have real trouble with energy levels, and I felt so good over the holiday, its a bummer to be getting back into that tired struggle again. I'm hoping that the healthy eating and regular exercise will help with my tiredness!

Tommorrow's plan is pre work jog with dog. After work yoga. Take all my healthy food to work with me. Eat regularly so I don't get tired! Do something fun!

Hi anna!! Shift work sucks :\ But I'm sure you can work around it to fit your healthy lifestyle in!

Its good to see you're making reasonable and attainable goals. I think most of us are looking to just maintain during christmas :p There's so many goodies!!

Keep it up girl! you can do it :D

I couldn't agree with atyoch more. Your goals are very reasonable. And going to yoga 6 days without any break is very very good. And yes, you absolutely need some rest days in between so that you don't burn yourself out completely.

I usually listen to dancy 80s musice when I work out. Also, since MJ's death, I have been listening to him a lot too. His older songs, especially, are good for workouts. Also, a lot of Madonna (again her 80s stuff), quite good. I left my ipod in the car, but I'll go through my playlist and post some suggestions here. Not sure what kind of music you like, tho. I usually listen to pop/familiar songs when i work out so that i can just let my mind escape and not think about anything....

Good luck tomorrow with work.

Hey Anna, i sturggled with low energy levels as well-turns out im almost anemic-maybe speak to ur dr about your fatigue?

I always listen to basshunter during a workout-its a fast beat and i never tire of it :jump:

You are doing an awesome job keeping up with your jogs! Way to go!!!

Good song ideas guys. I'll have to have a listen and come up with a new play list on my days off (tues and wed)...

I have great iron levels nightrunner... I think I just get affected by the shift work. I work a rotating roster so there is no consistency. Work at a dif time every day and different days off every week. You think I'd be used to it, but its def got something to do with my slow persistant weight gain.

I had my 'free' evening today. Couple of glasses of wine, lamb curry that my friend made (really healthy actually with low fat yoghurt instead of cream). We didn't cook any rice and just shared one naan bread (baked not fried), and then I had a wee choc freddo frog (anyone know the calories on that one?).

I got my jog in earlier and did a yoga class so a successful day on the whole (maybe no weight loss today though).

I think i'll do something dif tommorrow and plan an afternoon nap, and then either do a spin or a pump class depending whats on.

I started work EARLY today, had to be there at 5:45am, so no morning jog. I'll be making up for it with a huge workout tonight. I'm about to have a nana-nap now though.... mmmm bed and sleep are my favourite.

I'm just starting my weekend. I'm trying to come up with something fun to do so I don't just waste it....

Maybe a tootle round the forest with my dog.

I just made a yummy omelet for lunch with mushrooms and green beans and garlic and a little cheese and it was soooo good. I feel really full and like I ate somthing fulfilling... sometimes diet food can be boring but this was yummy.:drooling:

Mmm you omlete sounds delicious! AGREED! sometimes i get bored with eating the same thing day in and day out and need to switch it up a bit. usually my switching it up means eating something not so great :s-but way to go for staying healthy!!

Im kind of struggling with the same thing myself. I want to get my run in tom morning before work because i know after work ill be too tired....waking up at 6:30 shouldnt be a big deal right?!

Enjoy your workout and hope you have a fun filled weekend!!

I had a huuuuge workout tonight (for me anyway) ... I did the step class and then went to bikram (90 min of hot yoga).... I'm stuffed now. I had a great afternoon nap before I went to the gym and I felt so great... full of energy :)

In the past when I've been dieting/exercising etc I've pretty much always slipped up and binged at the end of a shift cycle because I get so tired, but this week I've been fine. I hope that the strategies I've used will work next week when I've got a night shift at the end of my shift cycle.

I was starving when I got home from the gym and had a yummy salad with avocado and eggs and cheese in it (I can call it a salad because it had lettuce as well). I'm up to 1850 cal for the day, but after all that exercise I might add another snack in before bed. I think my body might need it.

I've been doing yoga and eating well for about 6 weeks now (although I had 2 weeks holidays in the middle which is why my weight loss slowed for a bit there), but I measured my waist today and I lost about and inch over that time YAYAY i've gone in a belt hole and my jeans are starting to feel loose. I'm hoping that I can move my ticker in the next couple of days. My scales are pretty dumb and so I'm only counting the loss when I see a whole kilo.... Come on tommorrow morning when I can weigh again. Its soooo coool

Yay I go to move my ticker today... The scales had been hovering below 95kg but today they went all the way down to below 94k!!!!!!

I'm amazed. I've been working at it pretty hard, but I've still been living and having a few treats here and there.

:hurray:

2kg??!!! Anna! WAY TO GOO!!! Thats amazing! Congrats! You HAVE been working hard and its paying off!

I love step class. its the only cardio class i look forward to.

It must be tricky to keep your new routine relatively consistent with alternating shift work. Think of the things you are doing now (like working out before going to work) that are working for you and plan to do the same things with this new shift cycle. I know you can do it Anna! It's only been 6 weeks and look how much you've accomplished!

Thanks for the kind words guys... Its awesome to be losing fat, and feeling somewhat in control of the process...

Having said that I ended up having a bit of a 'free'day today. It was a bit unplanned but I was so tired from yesterdays workout that I took the day off today (its my weekend after all) and then I didn't eat quite the way I wanted to. I think the exercise really helps me with not feeling hungry. Why is that I wonder?

So I ate irregularly and not always the food that I want, so I went up to about 2200 cal ( trying to eat 1800), but you know I'm cool with it. I'll pick up again tommorrow and am planning my exercise and food now so I don't get thrown off again.

You're doing great anna!! Congratz on the 2kg :D You must be so proud!! And everyone has to have a cheat day now and again and it seems like you stayed in a decent limit and didn't binge so be happy and enjoy the free day :D

good luck with the rest!!!

Thanks antyoch

I'm back on track today. Did my 30 min jog (149bpm avg) and went to yoga.

poached eggs for brunch and I'm good to go!

I popped into the mall with my mum and bought a couple of cheep sale tops and trous... I'm feeling like I look so much better. I'm sort of between sizes which is great because I was getting too big for s18 trous but I'm almost back into s16. Yay. It'll open up a whole dusty part of my wardrobe.

I can't wait to get to s14, although that might be a little while yet.

I've been a bit up and down emotionally. I've applied for a job in Australia and looks like I'll prob get it so my hubbie and are deciding whether to move or not. All my family are here so it would be hard to leave them. I'm sort of ready for a change though. I get a bit conflicted inside about it.

I can appreciate your inner conflict Anna. Moving away from family is never easy. How far is NZ from Australia?

Its actually pretty close (3 hour plane trip), and at the moment the flights are pretty cheep.

I would miss my family heaps on a day to day basis, but would still see them alot during the year.

I don't know whats going on with my weight but it was even less this morning! i won't update my ticker just yet but will check it again tommorrow. I'm still eating about 1800 cal a day, and trying to do at least 2 exercise things each day. I wouldn't be able to keep up that much exercise in the long term, but I'm trying to kick start my wieght loss.

Great going on the weightloss, Anna. So thrilled for you. Yayayay! This is just the beginning.

And I hear you re: moving away from home. I have been away for many many years and unlike you my folks live on the other side of the world. I moved to India some years ago from the US and was living all over even during college years. I love it, but it does get to me once in a while. I get to see my family once a year (either they come or I go over) and we have a really good time together. I am blessed that they are always there when I need them.

The hardest part, for me, has been living away from my boyfriend. He visits often or we make it a point to meet somewhere in the middle, but it is not the same. It is hard to have a relationship on skype or phone. Now he is moving out of the US and going to Africa to work (he and both work in a big international org) and it is going to be even more difficult for us. Plus he is going to one of the most difficult places in Africa, so I am going to be constantly worried about him.

Sorry, don't mean to sound so sad. I'll shut up now. :)

I know whatever decisions you make, you'll put a lot of thought into it. And they are going to be just 3 hrs away, so think of all the fun times you all will have when they visit and when u guys go over. Distance, they say, makes the heart grow fonder...

Poor you Juni,
I was in a long dis relationship before this one, and I found it very hard. It's so exciting when you meet up with them, and then upsetting as well. I don't envy you, but sometimes thats just how it has to be eh. Do you have a plan to live in the same place eventually?

I'm feeling really good today re the weight loss. I feel like I'm not bulging out of my clothes and even though I'm bigger than I'd like I feel like I look pretty ok today :biggrinjester:

See you all later

ummm hello!? are you actually questioning weight loss?!?!? yo pass it a long this way if you have no need for it :p Anna-BASK IN THE PLEASURE OF IT girl. and you have totally earned it!! 1800 cals a day plus a good workout and you're wondering how you're losing weight? I'll tell you-YOUR DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS:hurray:

3 hours isnt bad i guess, but it will still take some getting used to when you are used to seeing your family whenever the idea pleases you. I agree with juni though, sometimes anticipated family visits after a period of not seeing each other is cause for some seriously good times. When do you have to make a decision by?
