Suggestion if i may- and I will anyway.

A sit down dinner is always nice but it really depends on what you are going for. If it is a kind of informal affair than the appetisers would be better for all. More formal- dinner is good.
I always hated going to weddings that were more geared towards fun and levity and then had to stop and sit for a meal. It just seemed to make no sense to me. You also need to think about people's expectations- it is your wedding but you are throwing a party for 150 of your closest 'friends'.:p
Mind you- I had a sit down, formal meal at mine.:(

Good point. No, the wedding is pretty small, actually. No more than 50 people. Maybe less. Little family, mostly close friends. It is in the evening and we have a DJ until midnight. I was kind of leaning toward hors d’oeuvres, mostly because of the fact there is a cash bar. Who wants to drink on a full stomach? Not I. :D

Drinking on an empty stomach means you spend less.:D
Just do not get drnk at your own wedding- nothing looks worse than a trashed Bride. Have loads of fun- get tipsy- just not groin grappingly drunk.

50 people eh... Lucky. I had over 175. 100 of them I have not seen since.
Cost me and the wife a bundle and we both look back on it now and day we would do the church over again in a heartbeat but never the reception- not worth it for that money.
 
Speaking from my own experience, the reception is never worth the money, but I wouldn't trade those memories for twice that price. There are some people who I haven't seen since, but that's ok. It wasn't about them, it was about my wife and me.

I have to agree with the suggestion of keeping the drinking to a minimum. I think I might have had two glasses of champagne the whole time. It didn't matter. I was high as a kite anyway. I didn't do anything embarrassing and I remember everything.

Remember, we'll be asking for pictures soon enough.

Someone recommended we have an open bar but we (I) vetoed that pretty quickly for two reasons: 1. If I'm not paying for their drinks, I have no liability with respect to what may occur later, if anything, and 2. I don't want a bunch of drunk people there. If they have to buy their own drinks they are much less likely to get trashed. With an open bar, well, that just opens the door. Mike and I already agreed that we are not going to drink a lot. Whenever we go out, we normally stay within reason, anyway. I don't really like to be drunk because then I don't have full control. Can't have that. :D

Yeah, a lot of people told me they regretted the amount they spent on the reception. I hate to spend money, so really I think thus far we've done pretty well with the expenditures.

Angela - another reason to not get really drunk or drink a lot...I don't know what your dress is like but imagine trying to pee with all that fluff.

It took a team of 4 to help me - needless to say, I stopped drinking right after that experience.

lmao - probably the most valuable tip yet. :D It is a bit fluffy - built in crinoline and all that - but if it gets to be too bothersome, I'll just head across the parking lot and change. I was thinking of getting a new outfit just for that if necessary. I wasn't thinking of having to use the restroom (thank you for bringing that to my attention!) I was worried about tripping and breaking my neck doing Copperhead Road. :D

Well, I could be a smartass here and say "Google it noob" but I won't. That would just be mean. :D A crinoline can be made of different materials, but in my case it is a stiff net-like material. It's purpose is to keep the skirt of the dress in proper form and to give it a little poof so it does not hang flat and lifeless. Mine is not dramatic nor heavy, but it would be awkward for some things - like what Ali mentioned previously. Built-in obviously means attached to the dress (which makes me wonder if mine is removable. I'll have to check that out.) There are some that have many layers and have to be put on separate from the dress. I've even seen them come in "cage" form.

Another tip. Practice walking up stairs in the dress and shoes. Don't want to trip and show all that crinoline.

The only reason I know the days is because I have a D-day count down on my phone and it is on the display. It doesn't have hourly countdown. Bad bride. :(

That is actually a great tip.
My wife needed to do that- she is 5'9" and does not wear heels often if at all.
 
77 days huh? Boy...it will be here before you know it. Time does fly by!
