Amy's weight loss diary

Amy, if its not too late, take your goggles back and get another pair. This shouldn't be happening.

Last year i had a big icecream phase. I was really getting into it and was having the time of my life. Until i very dumbly stuck a metal spoon in the top and broke the plastic beater. I wrote to the manufacturer to ask for a replacement but they said they didn't have anymore left. There ended my homemade icecream phase.

But what i noticed was that the way i made icecream, it was less fattening than bought stuff and with more interesting flavours. And although it was really yummy i tended not to need to eat more than 1 scoop. Now i know that's strange but i think there is some sort of good reason for it, if the recipes could be compared and analysed.

One thing i made that was good in that it was impossible to eat more than one scoop of. It was this overly strong grapefruit sorbet. Sure it had a lot of sugar in it but no fat of course. It was pretty yummy though and packed a real punch. I think fruit sorbets are the way to go if you have to make icecream to get you through a comfort eating episode.

Or you can make yummy fruit icecreams with milk rather than cream. Its not as utterly delicious but its pretty good and deals with the icecream urge. You could even probably cope with one scoop a night after your meal without buggering up your diet.

I'm going to try and get my hands on some waterproof glue and glue them back together, or if not, do what my mum suggested to fix them. This is the weak part of goggles in any case. (I think the odds of getting a refund are comparable to the odds of me walking to go and visit my parents)

I plan to do a bit of experimenting with the ice cream. I've just plugged the details into a calorie counter (and corrected for the obvious error- my artificial sweetener isn't entirely calorie free- the calorie counter says 58/ serve), and presuming I have the serves as directed (it makes about 700ml- or at least that's the line where the liquid settled to in the blender last night- for 8 serves) it's about 65 calories per serve. Which is pretty damn trivial. I wouldn't be doing it if it were going to be packed with sugar or fat (and thus calories).

The duvet cover as curtain made a big difference. I still wore my eye mask to bed but slept really soundly for the first time in ages, and didn't wake up at stupid o'clock. I unfortunately woke up to someone buzzing at my intercom rather than my alarm, although I think the sun was beginning to stir me at that point anyway. Might think about putting something into the duvet cover to make it less translucent, but I'm not sure what.

No SD card yet (was dispatched two days ago, was unlikely to get here today but I live in hope), but I do have my new graze box. I think I might take a "holiday" from them for a week, they're sending them faster than I'm eating them at this point (I now have two boxes). Also tried a new type of tea today- China tea (Sainsbury's taste the difference leaf tea). Very different to what I'm used to (it has a smoky/ woody flavour) but very nice indeed.

Ice cream is nearly done. Won't have any until I can take a picture of it.

I think it's getting close to time to throw out some of the size 14 knickers that I bought last year at my low point. Not quite ready to do it yet, they're still in perfectly acceptable shape and I hate throwing things out (but am not giving them to a charity shop... second hand knickers :puke: ). It's just they're freaking enormous on me. I think I'm almost ready to get back to wearing the size 10 knickers I actually came to this country with. Almost, not quite. In a few weeks, I suspect.

I've seen an ice cream recipe I want to adapt... one of my favourite flavours. But damn it I don't know how. One of the important ingredients has a sugar free version which cuts the calories by about 3/5, but the other one doesn't seem to have a low cal version at all, and the nutritional information isn't available online. (I'm not going into details because I don't want to drag anyone down while I look at high calorie recipes... oh and it's very high. Nearly 500 calories a serve high)

Lol the word knickers makes me laugh.
I don't know why.
Oh man you have such a tiny bum.
I'm super jealous.

I can't bring myself to say "pants", in Australia that means trousers. (Although I love the other meaning of "pants" in this country- that movie was pants! that makes me giggle)

Why am I so hungry today? I've given in and gone for an early dinner, and have made it a much bigger dinner than usual, but I'm through the meat and grain portion and I'm still starving. So I've made myself a much bigger portion of vegetables than usual (sauteed a whole saucepan's worth, which completely fills one of my massive bowls. I'm eating it now. What is wrong with me?! I'm eating a good, balanced, healthy diet with food that I've deliberately selected to be filling... and I'm starving. I don't normally eat this early, not by a long shot.

:piggy: :piggy: :piggy:

Sigh.

Edit to add: OK, I'm full now. Painfully full, but then that tells you how hungry I was when I made that. 2 onions, a zucchini, a capsicum, and 7 mushrooms, sauteed. All for me. On top of dinner. :piggy: (fortunately, only 173 calories, including the cooking spray I used)

You work out soooo hard so your body is metabolising faster than usual.
Maybe that's why you're super hungrrry.
Mmm veggies. You always choose the healthy option.

Heh. I've had two days off the gym in a row (I'd planned to go today, but the first day getting over sleep deprivation always leaves me feeling shocking). And it's funny, I usually eat less when I go to the gym.

I figure if I get hungry later (and it's too early to go to bed or whatever) I'll try some things that are slightly higher calorie, but it's better to experiment with lower calorie stuff first rather than just assume I have to blow the calorie count. (And I like sauteed vegetables, especially sauteed onion) It's awesome how few calories were in that though, it was a full 2 litre saucepan's worth.

I'm going to get a really early night. Still very drained.

Snack: cup of tea with 68ml milk, a 73g kiwi fruit. Subtotal: 59 calories, 3g protein, 11g carbs, <1g fat

Snack: 115g gala apple. 57 calories, 13g carbs
Dinner: :piggy: serve of orange-lemon spiced chicken, 50g wholewheat couscous, and the following vegetables (sauteed in 4 sprays of sunflower oil Frylight): onions (184g), zucchini (204g), capsicum (132g) and mushrooms (118g). Subtotal (including Frylight): 650 calories, 44g protein, 97g carbs, 12g fat
Dessert: cup of peppermint tea, 86g plum and 107g apple (both chopped up and steamed). Subtotal: 99 calories, 1g protein, 23g carbs, <1g fat.
Total: 1676 calories (89%), 87g protein, 291g carbs (over... oops), 20g fat, 90% of sodium allowance.

Edit to add: Ha! I was curious, and I've eaten nearly 1.5kg of fruit and veg today. Yikes. Although if "five a day" is really as simple as a serve being 80g, that means I've eaten nearly 18.5 of my five a day. Yowser.

I've decided (I'm about to go to bed, this still constitutes "really early" for me) to try to go to the gym first thing in the morning. I am not a morning person by any stretch, but maybe working out when my brain is still half asleep will lead to a more productive day overall, rather than stuffing around while I'm half asleep, going to the gym when I'm starting to wake from my stupor, then trying to get something done.

Did you get to the gym early today?
18.5 of your five a day? SOZ, fruit machiiiine.

Thanks :) I'm actually feeling pretty good, I'm just terrible first thing in the morning.

Had a really good session in the gym (lower body workout, not very sore at all- although my calves were burning horribly- then 15 min on the cross trainer, and 40 laps in the pool)

I also now have an SD card- pictures!!!

Here's the ice cream- a picture with the ingredients and a close up, and a picture of the repair I've made on my goggles (that's a hair elastic cut and tied back up again- it works quite well. And they look wet because they are wet, I've just got back from the gym)

What vegetables would people recommend go in a chicken tikka kebab? (This is for my boyfriend- I asked him and he said "chips and yoghurt sauce". They're not vegetables) I'm going to make it for him soon and I want to break up the chicken with something a bit healthier, but I have no idea where to start- onion, capsicum (aka pepper/ bell pepper), chili... what else?
