Amy's weight loss diary

God no, i wouldn't let that dull recipe section stop you from asking an sensible question like the one you posed.

I usually get inspiration from the food i've got on hand. I start out iwth one thing and then i need to find a recipe for it. So first i got to my recipe books. I have a reasonable collection but as I got rid of quite a few a few years back, i don't always find the answer. So then i check out the web. I just put in the item and google away.

You could borrow some recipe books from a local library. Its a good way to find books that you may decide to buy later on.

Why not have a go at some sort of asian recipe. Japanese is often low cal. I think most of them are really. And its so much fun cooking foreign food.

I also love french food and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to be overly rich or high in calories. And anyway if you find a high cal recipe you can always adapt it. When i say, i particularly mean mediterranean food. I love all mediterranean food.

Also middle eastern food. What about making meatballs in tomato sauce a la greek style

Or have a lebanese meal with their meatballs. I love meatballs.

I love taht greek dish with fat maggoty pasta and mince. I can't remember the name.

Stuffed vegetables with meat. Yumm ie stuff tomatos, or capsciums, or marrow, or even aubergine.

How is it you never eat fish? Don't they have good fish there?

Fish is horrendously expensive and not very good quality here. I should eat it, but I can't bring myself to pay for what I don't get.

I'll keep looking, and I'll give that taco soup recipe a go.

The things I have next on the list to make (I'm still finding things, the amount of things I'm finding is slowing down and I'm beginning to become uninspired with it) are:
(without the chilli), and (I've made it before but this time I'm going to try lemon and orange juice rather than just orange juice, see if it works)

Edit to add: the chicken (much less than the recipe called for- 5 thigh fillets- is now in the fridge and will marinate until tomorrow. I'm going to make the other one for dinner tonight.

Ugh, it's bugging me. I had some corn on the cob and now I'm hungry again. Just going to hold back and then start to cook dinner around 6, that should shut my stomach up.

I'm also making some home made ice tea, it's getting to be the weather for it. I imagine (although haven't figured it out yet) that it'll be fairly low calorie. What I did was make a teapot of tea, stronger than usual (my teapot usually takes 4 teaspoons of loose tea, I used 6). I also added a peppermint teabag, but this is optional. I strained the tea into a saucepan and I'm going to leave it to cool. Once it's cool, I'll add no sugar added lemon squash (that's cordial in Australia), 3 parts tea to one part squash, and then put it in the fridge. When I come to drink it, I'll dilute the mixture 1/4-1/3 with water depending on how strong it ends up. Sugar optional (and obviously not a good idea on a diet).

Ooooh I like the sound of your iced tea. Great idea. And super healthy. You can add splenda but that's not goooood for you. and doesn't sound like you drink it sweet any way.

It's really nice, and much much cheaper than the stuff they sell here (in Australia you can get it in powder form, which isn't as cheap as this stuff, it's cheaper than Liptons). Much healthier than any of the premade ones I imagine. My mum used to make it when I was a kid.

Just came across this and it looks good: (although apples are a bit out of season at the moment. sigh)

Have just made the beef stirfry. Accidentally had a spill with the Chinese five spice which meant that the teaspoon I meant to add turned into about a tablespoon. It was nice, but very overpowering (unfortunately if I make it, I eat it. Usually works out ok for me). Just going to work out how many calories are in what I actually made. Might make it again some other time and see if I can do it without stuffing it up.

444 calories- not too bad considering. The website gives it as 349... I think that's unlikely, even without the changes I made. Still puts me well under calories for today (although the serving size was small and my stomach's still rumbling a little).

Completely back on the bandwagon today. Finishing off the drink I bought for the picnic yesterday (Tesco sparkling water with a hint of lemon and lime), and looking at it to enter it on my calorie counter, it's 2 calories per 100mL! I'm going to try to stick to water (and ice tea), but I might get this every so often as a treat, it's very nice.

I know I have to make up for yesterday, but I crave a Greek yoghurt dessert. That'll put me up towards goal. I think I've just got to take one day at a time and not deprive myself because of a previous blip.

It depends on what I have in the house and I feel like. It's usually a bit of honey, and a serve of berries, and sometimes I'll add steamed fruit (I've had apples and/ or plums). Comes out at tops 260 calories the way I make it. Really, really nice (and filling, although that's usually not important if I have it for dessert).

OK, food diary time. The idea of being virtuous to make up for the blowout sort of went out the window. I think I need to take each day as it comes- most days I'm under my goal (maintenance -500), and some days I'm way under my goal, so I think the overall trend is and will continue to be positive.

Thanks guys :)

Feeling really tired and fuzzy headed today, which is annoying because I have a big pile of stuff I need to do. Should probably go to the gym (as I haven't been since Friday) but the stuff I need to do here is more important. Also, my boyfriend's sick (sounds like a bad cold) and while I don't have any symptoms yet, we almost always give each other illnesses. Do not want.

I think the tired and fuzzy head is the fact that the sun is waking me up earlier and earlier. I should try to get to bed earlier, but unfortunately my brain works at its best at night. The next best thing (and something I've been meaning to do for ages) is get some blackout fabric and stick it to the wall around my window, and go back to using my sunrise alarm. I might also try using my SAD light to get rid of some of the fuzz (although it's not the time of year for it!)

Oooh I'd love an SAD light.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling fuzzy headed and sleepy.
Take it easy today, sweet.

Wow amy you're doing great! You lost another couple of kilos but, at the same time, you always eat delicious things. Great :)

Thank you :) I'm losing about as quickly as can be anticipated (although I'll see whether that keeps up after my day out and blowout) at the moment, which I'm really pleased with.

On the downside, I'm still not feeling any better, and am getting the shivery-shakes and a headache. I feel like it's December and I don't have the heating on. I'm freezing- and I've put a whole pile of clothing and the heater on. The only thing that's stopped me from doing is shivering uncontrollably :( No symptoms of cold or such yet though.
