Always Pushing Up The Hill, Searching For The Thrill Of It

Hey looks like last week turned out good - how'd you make out over the weekend?
I'm so excited it's my second last Monday of work before holidays!!!

Hey friends! Sorry I haven't been around lately. Here's a recap of my weekend:

Thursday: I went to the gym between classes to go swimming. I got all ready and rinsed off, walked in, and there was a class filling up all the lanes. I asked the lifeguard if there was open swim (because the schedule said 11AM-1PM open swim) and she said that open swim is noon-1. I was really pissed off because I didn't have time to wait around and go at noon so I just left and never made it back to the gym. My roomie and I made chicken fajitas for dinner and had huge Bud Light Lime beers to go with it. We had our guy roomie upstairs get ice cream for us on the way home and we ate it straight out of the carton. I had too much and had a terrible stomach ache.

Friday: I worked all day and by the time I got home, I wanted to just lay around and do nothing. I ate a bunch of pretzels and had a bowl of ice cream. Eventually I snapped out of it and made it to the gym to do my running (3.25 miles total) and my push ups. I went out with Joey to play pool and have some drinks. Well some drinks turned in to a lot of drinks, and we ate gyro sandwiches with fries when we got home.

Saturday: Hungover at work - had a bagel & cream cheese for breakfast, ate a peanut butter cookie, got home and ate ice cream. Skipped the gym because I needed a nap, woke up packed everything and came home. Got ready for the night and went to my friends house. We had 2 beers then left to go to a bar for my friend's 21st birthday. Had a lot to drink once again. Ate like 4 pieces of toast when I got home and a few girl scout cookies.

Sunday: Ate a cupcake in the morning (from my mom's birthday). Had half a bagel w/cream cheese for breakfast. Ate spaghetti with sausage for lunch. Went out for my mom's birthday and ate a lot there. Had cake afterwards. No workout again. Also, sore throat and feeling SICK!

So today I am still feeling not the greatest. I am pissed that I am getting sick now. And I woke up and I guess TOM decided to come 2 days early -- greeeeat. Anyway, I still plan on continuing with my running program, I really only missed 1 day of it but I will just skip that one and stay on schedule as it is. Looking forward to another good week after a not so good weekend!

Aww, sorry to hear you're not feeling well :( That's a bummer!

Ok...I know it's not polite to say / ask this ..but...SPILL ABOUT THE DATE!!!! omg!! How'd it good!? tell tell! (it's ok if you want to keep it private, as it is personal!) hehehe

You sound like you had a fun weekend! You're doing great with the running!! I can't believe over 3 miles- wow! I find that so incredible!!! You're doing great!!

Keep it up girlie! Hopefully you'll find that you only had a small touch of something and that it clears up!! :)

Tik - The date was good but I really don't see myself dating Joey. He is a very sweet guy and I have fun with him, but... he's got a lot of baggage :ack2: We went out again on Friday night to play pool and we had so much fun together. I was quite tipsy and I vaguely remember holding his hand either on the way home or when we fell asleep. We are also not on the same page as far as school and what we want for ourselves, and I don't want to date someone that I don't feel I can take home to mom and dad.

Last night I went to the gym after my work meeting, so it was around 9PM and the gym was PACKED. All the treadmills were being used and the sign up sheet's were filled with names so I was really angry and got on a bike instead. I totally didn't want to do the bike so I only did 2.5 miles until I noticed an empty treadmill. Got on the treadmill and started doing my running. About 8 minutes into it I could barely feel my feet, and noticed once again the shin splints have come to haunt me. I finished at 1.05 miles and got off because I knew if I pushed through it would only make them worse and I don't want to ruin the rest of the week. I'm going to try the gym again today after class and see if I can run. If not, I guess I'll work on getting some biking miles racked up for the ironman. UGH. It has been difficult getting back into the swing of things since taking two days off. The scale doesn't like me but luckily I'm feeling fine with myself right now and liking the way I look. Maybe it's because I've been tanning.... lol

Well, gotta go! Have a healthy day, friends!

That sucks about the gym being so packed! I've been avoiding the gym for some reason lately and just kicking it at home - maybe because secretly I know it's going to be busy.
i'm so jealous you've been tanning! I'm not sure if I told you but when my hubby quit smoking two years ago he told me I had to quit tanning so I agreed because I thought it was fair but I miss it so much!! I love my skin with a fresh tan. I've been considering sneaking one or two in but he would be so sad if he found out so I'm probably not going to. Hopefully I'll tan nice and not burn on my trip - I bought 15 to wear in case it's really hot.
Did you ice the shin splints last night? That used to help didn't it? Sorry it hasn't been easy for you getting going this week but give it another chance today and by tomorrow you should be feeling better.
Happy Tuesday Sarah!

Hey girl!!! Man do shin splints suck!! I remember that years ago, when I first started running that they would come to me too! Or if I would go to the gym, and do too high of an incline, then they would come.

It's kinda strange that you get them so often, considering how light you are. :/ Oh well, keep at it!! I'm so proud of you for doing an Ironman, or at least training for it right now. :) That's such a great FITNESS goal, versus a weight loss goal! I love that. Fitness goals, make the road seem much much nicer on this journey.

The trainer made me run yesterday morning for 1.5 miles on the treadmill, and I literally thought.. "Ughh...this is boring!" I came home and at night ran outside for 3 miles, and that was much more fun! I admire how you like to run on the treadmill. Good for you!

Ahh, I wish I could tan. I just go like a lobster and slowly boil :( Sounds like an awesome weekend, minus the shin splints! Have a good day lovely xx

Happy Tuesday Sarah!

You should go just a few times... tell him you just want to get a nice base tan so you don't burn :p Hah! I mean... that IS a legit reason to go! I didn't ice the shin splits, I usually do but I got home pretty late and just went to bed.

Thanks Alta! IDK why I get them so much -- it must be the way I run. It also seems like any time I get a good running streak going and then I go off for a few days, they come back. All the more reason not to slack ;)

Oh girl, I have SUCH a hard time tanning. I burn sooo easily which is why I have been tanning. I'm finally getting some color but I'm still so pale compared to most of my friends! I plan to stop after vacation, though... I don't want skin cancer :(

_____

Yesterday was not great eating-wise however I did make it to the gym to do my running and I completed it no problem and pain free :D IDK if this helped, but I switched my running shoes to a different pair. I got a really nice sweat in -- 3.3 miles total (Intervals - 5 minutes running @ 6.6 mph / 1 minute walking @ 4.0 mph --> x 5 and for the last minute I ran at 7.5 mph)

I went out last night. My best friend's boyfriend of 3 years broke up with her so she came out from back home to visit us and we went out to the bars. She tried to have a good time but she just didn't seem to be feelin' it. I still had a lot of fun. Joey came out and my friends/roommates (even the guys) really like him! He is soo cute and he always puts a smile on my face... maybe I should give him a chance. His friends were with him and they kept mentioning things to me that I knew Joey told them about me. So I guess he likes me if he talks to his friends about me :p IDK what is going on with this all, I just know that I'm having a good time and Joey is good company :D Plus he always compliments me on my outfits... he tells me he likes my dress or tells me that I look nice :) And he STILL hasn't tried anything on me which shows me he respects me. OK la la la enough of this mushy gushy stuff :)

I feel okay today - not like death so I know I will make it to the gym later and I'm going to do my running and maybe some biking, then day 2 of week 2 for this push ups program. I'm really getting better at push ups and I'm loving my arms!

Time to go see some other journals. Happy hump day!

Hey Sarah, I'm sure your friend appreciated you trying to distract her so it was all worth it! What are your reasons for not giving Joey a chance? He sounds great. Whatever you decide it will be for the best!
I can feel my arms getting stronger lately too and I'm loving it! You are going to be smoking for spring break! Keep it up friend!

eeeee! ok ok...I won't comment on the boy stuff, because I know it's personal..but....*giddy*.... I hope things work out! I know it can be hard if you feel you're on a different page than a guy, because you don't ever want to feel like you're settling or compromising yourself for someone... A friend told me something once that I think is important- every person has their own limits, criteria, and breakers for a relationship. What one person will put up with, another might not. Different things matter to different people, and it's important to know what you want!

I think it's GREAT that he's so nice to you- he sounds like he really likes you...ok...TOTALLY said I wasn't going to comment on it, and what do I do? Go off on a tanget!!

Glad you're happy!! :)

And great job on the work outs! You're doing so great girlie! Seeing your running makes me want to push myself harder on the treadmill!! :) Thank you again for the pictures! I can't WAIT to have some of myself!!! Eeeeee!! Are you going to be running any races soon!?!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend! :)

Hey girls! Thanks for stopping by. I have to make this quick because I need to leave for work in a few minutes.

It's been a crazy week and I've been drinking a lot... not eating the best... but at the same time, I'm feeling good about myself still and I'm getting my work outs in. Yesterday was a better day than how it's been going usually. I didn't eat quite as much or quite as bad... in fact I didn't eat anything from lunchtime until after midnight. I did go to the gym for my intervals (3.25 miles total, 5 minutes running @ 6.7 mph / 1 minute walking @ 4.0 -- 5 sets) then biked 4 miles and did my push ups program (26 push ups total).

I am going to the gym after work to do my running again. I definitely need to relax on the drinking, I still haven't fully recovered from this cold and it's just lingering because I keep going out.

Things with Joey are up and down, I feel like I have more fun with him and I like him more when we are out at the bar drinking. Not a good sign. Still, he is a good guy. I just know there is someone better out there for me.

Have a healthy weekend friends!

I polished off a bottle of wine last night, taking a bubble bath and feeling like a chubbo. Don't feel bad about your episodes lately. ...not to mention a whole bar of dark cocoa chocolate (which usually takes me 5 days to eat slowly) and 1 slice of sugar free red velvet cake. :/

Hi my name is, Alta, and I relapsed! LOL!!! Food/Alcohol AA. ;)

Let's work for it, now! Fuck it! Let's change the roll. I'm feeling lazy right now and reading that you are getting to the gym no matter what is making me feel more inspired. Thanks!! Let's get it, Sarah!!! The guy sounds like fun for the moment. I like how you are just letting it unwind, but are real with yourself about the fact that there is someone better out there. Shit... He might be at the gym!? He might be your next personal trainer?! LOL! :D Imagine!

Hahaha seriously, I am right with you on the Food/Alcohol AA!! I'm glad you stopped by yesterday and wrote this because it definitely gave me the push to make it to the gym after a long day of work and almost skipping! Your encouragement and hard work is contagious :)

_____

Yesterday, after getting 5 hours of sleep, working 8 hours and coming home to sore/tired feet plus feeling sick (still)... I got my ass to the gym again and rocked out 3.4 miles on the treadmill. Woooo! Felt good!

And then guess what.. I went out. Surprise, surprise. But tonight I am babysitting so NO MORE PARTYING this weekend!

Still hangin' in there... 2 weeks til spring break. Oh my gosh... now it's REALLY crunch time!

Yeah I drank about 2 bottles last night and a bottle the night before that and a few beers tonight. Damn student life, eh?! Keep doing what you're doing girlie, next week is a new start :D

girl, you have such motivation and determination!! it is hard to get yourself to the gym when you're exhausted and pooped! But the fact that you did after little sleep and a hard day, well that proves you can make your goals!!! That is tough! You so strong!!!!!

:)

Ugh, TELL ME ABOUT IT! On top of friends from out of town coming to visit (this happened 3 days out of this whole week) it wasn't easy staying in! But yes, it's a new week and I got all that fun out of my system. Time to buckle down! :smash: (But we're only young once... right? :blush5:)

Thanks Tik! The running has been going really well and I'm excited to say that I'm going into week 4 now! Have you started the 5K training yet? I know you were talking about it, I will have to stop back to your diary and check that out! Sorry I've been MIA around here for a while.... it's been a crazy week to say the least. 10 days til our March 16th goal... I have nooo clue what I even weigh right now but I'm tracking all my calories until spring break so hopefully I can get close. Let's do work!! Push it! :D

_____

Yesterday I took the day off from exercising because 1) I was a little hungover and 2) I was tired and 3) I just didn't feel like it :D BUT today I am doing the running that I was supposed to do yesterday (today is a "rest" day on the schedule so I'll still be on track). And I am now going into week FOUR of the 5K training so I'm halfway through! Though the first time I did it, I only completed 7 weeks and that was enough. It's just nice because I can tell I am getting my endurance back. For a while there I could tell I was loosing it when I kept feeling really short of breathe during my workouts.

I'm also going to track my calories for the next two weeks here before spring break arrives. I've been cutting myself too much slack letting pizza, ice cream, and alcohol take over my diet. I haven't weighed myself in a while but at the same time I can't tell any difference in my body and I like what I'm seeing when I look in the mirror. Now if I just add in the calorie counting and kill these workouts the next two weeks, I'm sure I'll like what I see a lot better!

Today I'm going shopping with my mom and she is "in the mood to spend some money" so I'm hoping I might be getting some cute things for spring break! Wooo, vacation is JUST around the corner. I can almost see the coast :D

Got a new pair of shorts and 3 bright colored v-neck t-shirts for vacation! Can't wait!

So far I've tracked all my calories today. Right now I'm at 950 -- aiming for 1,400/day. I just finished my workout:

3.4 miles treadmill
- 2 minutes walking warm up @ 4.0 mph
- 30 minutes intervals (6 minutes running @ 6.6 mph / 1 minute walking @ 4.0 mph (x4) + 2 minutes running @ 7.2 mph -> 7.5 mph)
- 2 minutes walking cool down @ 3.5 mph --> 3.0 mph

Day 6 push ups program
- 5 push ups, rest, 7 push ups, rest, 5 push ups, rest, 5 push ups, rest, 8 push ups = 30 total

- 20 side bends each side holding 8 lbs weights
- 40 crunches regular, 10 bicycles, 40 crunches left, 10 bicycles, 40 crunches right, 10 bicycles, 40 crunches laying flat

Here's to a good week :waving:

Great workout, woman!! Look at you and your pushups!! ;) Love it!!! Great that your mom bought you new clothes too! That was nice of her. :)
Gotta love mama!

Hello friends! It's been a few days, sorry! But I am still on track doing my running and push ups... the push ups are starting to get easier!

I haven't weighed myself in a while with all the crappy eating and alcohol I've been drinking but I stepped on the scale today and it said 140.6! I am SO motivated now to meet my goal of 139 by next Wednesday! I know I can do it :D :D :D

As far as this ironman challenge goes, I've only done biking and running. I have not made the time for swimming yet because the open swim hours are sort of funky. I am a terrible swimmer anyway. I don't mind if I can't finish the ironman challenge... I just like logging my workouts everyday when I leave the gym so I can see how consistent I've been.

That's all for now... I can't believe I am leaving for Florida in just 9 days! Time is just flying!!!
