Alright now I have an ab question

Alright I've been working out for about 5 years now. I have a fairly good concept of weight training and diet. I do however have an ab question.

On most my workouts I work a specific muscle group once or twice a week (depending on my routine) and rest it. Following this routine I've been doing my abs once or twice a week depending on my routine. Since your abs are a muscle that needs rest to grow just like any other muscle how come a lot of people do their ab workouts 3-5 times a week and not overtrain? I'm thinking about turning up the heat a little in that department. I have a six pack but it could always be better

many ppl seam to do 100's and 100's of sit ups, to improve your 6pak, I's suggest working them in the same way you'd work any other muscle. Try holding a ligh weight on ur head, and get heavyer untill you can only manage 8-10 at a time, or if your have a decline bench press, use that ( mind your head on the bar).

It can get pretty dangerous tho, so be really carefully and dont give urself a hernia or any back probs.

Make sure ur doing the same for ur lower back and obliques, there all important core muscles, and will all improve your phisique

Thanks for the response. Yea I noticed and that was pretty much my question how people do so many situps and work their abs so much without overtraining since it's a muscle as well. I will work on building some strength and do some good quality sets and let them rest like I would any other muscle.

I believe it was Ian King who said you could do abdominals daily for injury prevention (that would be extremely low volume each day, though) or hit them pretty hard 3-4 times a week.
