Alligatorob's Diary

I don´t want to get too far into your calories but burning 600 extra calories during exercise when you´re only eating 1300 and 100 of those are from whiskey sounds a little excessive. Maybe you could try aiming for those 1200 but eating back exercise calories on top of that? I´m fully aware that your first concern is to stop the binging (and I agree!) but 600 net food calories is very, VERY low - especially for someone who no longer has to lose weight for pressing health reasons.

Today was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight.

Went with my wife to the doctor today and got some good and some bad news. The good news is her right wrist is not broken and the sprain has healed enough that he took the splint off. She still has a mangled finger on that hand that will have to be splinted for at least another month, but she now has 80% or so of the use back in that hand. Bad news is the right is not setting well, the Dr thinks it needs to be operated on and reset. She goes to a hand specialist Thursday for a second opinion, that was what her Dr recommended. Its going to be a long process, but she is getting more mobile all the time.
I like the idea that maybe just the trying on its own will help.
Thanks Marisa, I guess that is kind of where a lot of us end up. The old progress not perfection thing. I do know where I end up not trying, this has to be better than that.

Thanks LaMa, and I know you are right I have been eating too few calories the last couple of days, but it seems to help keeping me from bingeing. Up a few today, and no whiskey! Intellectually I know that I don't need to lose any more weight and have kind of resigned myself to that. However having spent virtually all my life overweight and wanting to lose it's a hard thing to overcome.

Oh, and I don't believe the 600 calorie burn, its just the number MFP gives me. If MFP had been right about that burn I'd be below zero pounds by now! Note today MFP says I burned 666 calories, isn't that the mark of the devil or something?

Burning 666 kcal in a weightliftig workout would be hellish... You're very likely right that it's less.
Still very glad to see the extra food though. I understand the psychological hurdle of eating more when 1200 kcal/seem like the only thing that's ever "worked" for you. But as long as you don't give up I'm sure there's a way forward.

Oh, and also so sad about your wife's hand maybe needing surgery. I hope the specialist will maybe find a less invasive way to fix her hand. Poor thing, it all sounds very painful. Sending hugs her way!

Not a bad day, ate well, got some exercise and I feel fine tonight. Exercise was limited to just over 30 min, but I did some.
I've just burnt 666 calories - I forgot to take the devil's food cake out of the oven!
Good one!

My "gym workouts" are usually something I do at home, some weight lifting but not most of the workout. I do a lot of resistance band things, partly based on what I learned from my Physical Therapist last year, it really helps with my shoulder. Then I do a variety of exercises, some of which were taught to me by a friend last year. Some weight lifting but not a whole lot. I try to keep moving as quickly as I can and push myself hard. No rests. However I know I do a certain amount of pacing and as I tire I am sure I slow down. Been listening to Great Lectures whilst exercising, the French Revolution that kind of thing. No real idea how many calories I burn, but some.
But as long as you don't give up I'm sure there's a way forward.
I agree, not giving up is important for me. Was tempted to give in or up tonight, but I didn't no binge today.

Thanks Marsia, I will. It is painful for her. Meet with the hand surgeon tomorrow to decide on surgery...

It was a good day, ate well, got in some exercise and I feel good tonight.

The wife will get surgery, not only on her left wrist but also on her ring finger on the right hand. Did not expect it for the finger, but the doctor said that by putting a pin in it the chances of proper healing will be higher. Surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.

No binge today is the best any of us can do.
Absolutely, and I did it today. And will try tomorrow.

Good for you, not bingeing! And you are right of course, not giving up's what its all about.
Best of luck with the surgeon Rob, really hope your wife has a good outcome.
Thanks Emily, I think she's headed for a good outcome, it will just take a while.

That sounds like a nice routine--and really great to include some interesting learning along with it!

Did your wife get a surgery date yet? And do you know if she'll be able to use the one hand right after?

Well yesterday was not the best day. I did well until late, and then had a cookie binge. Not my worst binge, but a binge none the less. It started when I saw that I could eat a few more calories so I decided to eat 2 Oreos. Wish I could have stopped at 2, but I didn't... Otherwise the day was fine, got in a good workout and ate well up until... Not a great defense, but its all I got...

Thanks Liza, I think it is. Listening to some WWII lectures now.

Her surgery is Wednesday and the surgeon says she should get full use of her hands back. The left one, the broken wrist, he says will be useable sooner, the metal plate and screws help. Her right wrist, which was not broken but sprained is healing well. Her right ring finger may be the last thing to heal, it takes a while for the tendon to reattach to the finger bone. Or so the surgeon says. Thanks for asking.

I don't complete my MFP diaries after bingeing, so none to post. Maybe I should. I did not want to post this, waited until this morning, but I know posting will help keep it from continuing and maybe from happening again.

Hi Rob, it's good you don't post the stats when you overeat - so good to be kind to yourself. Wonderful your wife's hands will make full recoveries. Thank goodness!

I think not posting it is fine but for me it's often helpful to know the numbers, even if I don't tell anyone else. I hope today is easier for you!

Cookies are dangerous. I allow myself one specuulas a day. I love them but seem to be able to stop at one 🤞 I'm not sure why, but I think allowing myself just one each day makes them feel less forbidden.
That's great that Mrs 🐊 will be back in action so quickly.

Today was a good day, I ate well and feel good tonight. No exercise, but that was planned, my first day off in a week or so. No binge!

Thanks, it does seem to be a good prognosis, now fingers crossed that it's right...

One of my reactions to bingeing is quickly forgetting just how much I ate... not a great thing. Next time I will try to track it... no I will try for no next time! A better goal.
Cookies are dangerous.
They are for me too, any one is no big deal, neither is the second and there it goes... Best for me not to have the first. Don't know that the one a day thing works for me.

Looks like I missed posting Saturday. Typed it in but forgot to hit post, so its late.

Sunday was not a great day for me, more bingeing and no food log. However today was better so I am optimistic. We'll see.

I hope you sleep well. My stomach hurt hearing about all that lettuce and cabbage but then I saw your total fiber intake was only 22 grams. I knew iceberg didn't have a lot but that's downright silly!

Another day without a binge, a good day. Did 2 hours and 15 minutes in the gym and it felt good.

My wife's surgery is tomorrow so it will be a disrupted day. I will have to drive her there, wait and then home. The hospital is about an hour's drive away. Hopefully all will go well and healing will be fast.

I did sleep well, thanks. I am sure I had more fiber than that, I take some fiber supplements, they claim zero calories so I don't put it into the log. Not sure I understand how fiber can have no calories, but its probably low. Fiber doesn't seem to effect my sleeping.
