Alligatorob's Diary

I took 6 weeks to recover from my last general anaesthetic
That reminds me. Not the same, of course, but similar cause: elderly patients can have memory loss and psychotic symptoms for over a YEAR after general anesthesia. And then bounce back. So maybe it´s no surprise that some physical symptoms can persist a while as well.

I am just getting started, yesterday was my first day.

I weighed in at 320 lbs, I am thinking my ideal weight is 160, so I have about 160 lbs to lose. I know that is a real long term goal, my immediate goal is to do well today.

I am a 66 year old man who has been overweight all my life. I have lost weight at times, but could never keep it off. Any advice or comments would be welcome.

Yesterday

Breakfast
Oatmeal 150
Raisins 150

Snack
Ideal Shake 120

Lunch
Grits 200

Dinner
Eggplant Parmesan 300
Salad with blue cheese dressing 330

Total 1,250 calories
That was my first post here, tomorrow will be 2 years for me. When I look back I can only begin to appreciate how much things have changed, mostly for the better. I sure appreciate the support of y'all, I could not have done it alone. More on this tomorrow.

Today was a good day, ate well, exercised and feel good tonight.

On the down side our 12 year old dog, Sister, will have to be put to sleep in the morning. She has advanced cancer and little quality of life... A sad thing.
Yay, onwards and upwards!
Thanks LaMa, and today was just as good, I am feeling better!
I took 6 weeks to recover from my last general anaesthetic, Rob. Maybe it affects you similarly.
I suppose so, its actually over 7 weeks now. Did not take this long after my surgery last fall, but this one was different. Now however, I believe I am coming out of it.
psychotic symptoms for over a YEAR after general anesthesia
LOL, that could explain a lot!

Wow great job!

Oh I'm so sorry Rob. :( What a rough week - Matt (jonom) just put down his dog too.

It was a sad day, really missing the dog, she gave us 12 good years...

I was going to say something about my 2 year anniversary here, but don't feel up to it tonight. There will be another chance. I did eat well and did a lot of yardwork for exercise.

Thanks Err, Cate, and LaMa I appreciate your words.

Looks like I did not post that one yesterday, it was still on my computer this evening.

Today was good, I ate well and spent a lot of the day doing yardwork relegated things. Mostly working on and with the tractor...

I love that you are sticking around in the forum, especially in maintenance. There are lots of reasons I love that you stick around- I like you, you share your ups & downs, you are supportive & kind & have a good sense of humour, you're an example to others while showing that none of us is perfect, you're self-deprecating, you're smart......I could go on & you don't have to say anything about all of that. We feel for you & the loss of your old faithful, well-loved dog, Sister. Your WLF community sends its love :grouphug:

Thanks LaMa, and Cate as well. Cate I will not copy or quote your very kind words, but I do appreciate them. Kinder than I feel like I deserve. As I have said before I am here for my own good, I know that the only way I can maintain my weight is to be diligent and this is a part of it. Watched a very interesting documentary tonight, The Truth About Fat NOVA: The Truth About Fat . Very insightful and mostly science based, I recommend it.

Today was a good day, did a little over 2 hours in the gym and tonight had 2 glasses of my homemade peach wine, my first alcohol in a couple of months. Still stayed on the calorie track.

Pretty sure you exceed the strict minimum of participation on this forum but even if this is the absolute smallest amount you need to do to stay on track the result is kind and helpful.
Thanks for the link, I may check it out tonight.

Today was a good day, ate well and exercised. Feel good tonight. Cut my gym time a little short to get back to the office for a conference call, just did an hour and 55 minutes, LOL.

What would that "strict" minimum be?

It was a good day, I ate well did a short 30 min workout and a lot of yardwork. Got my colonoscopy scheduled, Thursday week. But that should only be one down day.

Thanks LaMa, I do try to respond to people, mostly newcomers these days, I think they need it most.

Today was a good day, back at the gym for a little over 2 hours, felt good. I ate about 50 calories more than my current "target", but I have not raised the target since I started exercising again, I probably should. Will think about it.

Today was a good day, ate well, exercised and I feel good tonight. Had a big salad for dinner, made with lettuce and broccoli just picked from the garden. I like that, it somehow tastes so much better that way!

Thanks LaMa and Cate, and I have decided to up my calories to around 1,700, will see how that goes for a while.

Fresh veg is so much better than grocery store produce. That week (or more) of storage, combined with not being able to pick at perfect ripeness makes a huge difference.

Being able to pick your own veggies from the garden is so much more rewarding & tasty than the bought stuff. 1700 is a good number, Rob :)
