Alligatorob's Diary

What a terrible and sad story, about Tisquantum
Yes, unfortunately most true stories of the interactions between European explorers and settlers and our Native Americans do not end well for the Indians. Despite many of our popular myths and stories (ie Disney) to the contrary.
And great that you had a good day yesterday
May be yesterday for you, but its still today for me, for a couple more hours anyway!

Miracle stories are always fun. Shame the crickets weren't grasshoppers (would've made more sense to me) or they could've eaten those as well. Although I'm pretty sure insects are unclean according to the bible :newangel:

I read your story about the seagulls - pretty interesting read. During that, it mentions that the winter was pretty warm when the Mormons arrived. I thought about the Pilgrims, who had a harsh winter when they landed - about half of them died. I read about it in a book about the Mayflower by David McCollough, which was a good read made more interesting because of all the local references. Then I read your note about Squanto, who was an interpreter for the Pilgrims for Wampanoag Chief Massasoit, who had his "seat" at the end of the local beach and actually had a section of the town named for him - I never knew who he was until I read the book. Quite the coincidence.

For kombucha I purchased a scoby from Ebay for my first batch then used older batches after. I love it, apple versions taste like cider and ginger versions taste like ginger ale. They're my fav but I do have a heap of other flavours I drink.

Rob I like the idea of that thread idea . I will try and set it up and if I post it in wrong place I am sure Our lovely moderators will sort it !

I just saw the pic of you in your Levi’s Rob, looking good my friend!

I did laugh at the weetabix making its way into the daily food report. Glad you are enjoying it. :) You should get more adventurous like me and mix some extras in there. ;)

Its the really big football day for me, my alma mater, LSU plays Clemson for the national championship tonight. Both teams are undefeated.

So my diet might suffer a little, I don't know how LSU can win without my support, and what better way to support the team than having a few beers. No red blooded Louisiana native and LSU grad will be doing less.

Games like this only come along once or twice in a lifetime, so this can be the exception rather than the rule!

I can walk after all, wonders never cease. Too much snow for the outdoor bike so I decided to try walking, 40 min and about 2 miles later my feet were fine. Now I am a bit embarrassed, worried way too much about my feet. I know it would have been a struggle and hurt my feet a lot to have attempted this a few months ago, I suppose I got caught by my old thinking. The exercise wasn't as good as the bike, I kept up enough pace to force myself to breath through my mouth, but not nearly so much as on a bike ride. At least now I have another snow day option, and it would probably do me good to walk some more anyway.

On the walk I noticed, about 15 min from home, a new little shopping complex with a gym in it. Maybe I need to check that out.

kombucha I purchased a scoby from Ebay
Found some on amazon and ordered it. This will be fun!
Bulletproof argument that!
Absolutely!!

That's great to hear! Such an improvement and you didn't even notice  walking may not be as intense as hard biking but it has its own benefits and possibly having access to a gym is pretty cool as well.

Rob walking is not only good for the heart but for the head so even if not as much a calorie burner as the bike it will do wonders for your health .
The storm is still blowing a bit here so no walk for me today . Good news on the boots fitting and the feet getting smaller

Rob-I went to tell you the other day how bad my feet are but stopped. I'm a tad embarrassed about my feet. Golf is really hard on them, but I can walk & walk if I walk on grass or dirt, but not on footpaths. Walking for me now is my daily meditation & mind clearer. It is very therapeutic.
I hope you check out the gym. A 15 min walk both ways to a gym(or a ride) sure would be good exercise.

Rob - good luck to LSU tonight! I will be pulling for your guys.

I like how you're getting walking in. It's honestly the only exercise I'm getting nowadays, and then only on weekends. Thanks for the reminder.

Great about your feet being able to handle the walking Rob! It'll probably be nice to get a bit of variety in!

It was a great day! LSU won the national championship, beating Clemson 25 to 42! And I ate well, got some exercise in and feel good. The amazing thing was it only took a beer and a half for the game, my calories were fine.

This is the biggest or tied for the biggest sporting event I have every seen. LSU last went undefeated in 1958, I was 6 years old and I remember that game well, LSU beat Clemson 0 to 7, and both games were played in New Orleans, the Sugar Bowl. There are hundreds of college football teams in the US, so its a pretty amazing coincidence. In 1958 college football was not televised, not much was. We listened to the game on the car radio, the only one we could find that picked up the New Orleans radio broadcast. I don't remember that game very well, but I sure remember my father's enthusiasm. My parents were both LSU graduates as well, so LSU runs in the family. I only regret that my father didn't live to see this game, he was burried in his favorite LSU football shirt. I am not as big a sports fan as many folks, but its hard for me not to follow this one. Probably the last time I will see anything like it. Ok, enough American Football, I know not many folks here are much interested in it.

It's late, I will catch up with folks and do more history tomorrow, I am off to bed soon.

I hope LSU's amazing success will follow on to my team St Kilda before I die! They have only won one premiership & that was in 1966. Go LSU! Go the Saints!

LSU won the national championship,
Hoorayhoorayhoorayhooray!!! :hurray:
