Alligatorob's Diary

Hi Rob!

Sounds like you had a great couple days. Sorry to hear your company left, but I bet it feels nice to get things back on an even keel.

Loved hearing about you taking your family around for a desert tour. It reminded my of “the Badlands”. Are you a Stephen King fan? That is from the Talisman.

Petal, I only weigh the higher calorie things, or things I am less sure of. I do weigh the cheese and the tomatoes sometimes, but not the lettuce. It kind of depends on how much confidence I have in my WAGs.

Thanks Davis, I know some of Stephen King's things, but am not familiar with Badlands, I will have to look for it.

LaMa, you are right I looked it up and sure enough after the French Revolution they did try a kind of metric calendar. Some things about it made a little sense, a 10 hour day with 100 minute hours would make tracking time easier, but it would take some getting used to 10 day weeks. Today would be Duodi (second day) the 2nd of Fructidor, CCXXVIII (228) if we had kept it. For some strange reason they reverted to roman numerals for the years. It didn't last long so we don't have to worry about adapting to it.

(This must mean something diety, surely, but what I'm used to it meaning, in Australian newspaper use, is Wives And Girlfriends. ;) )

As for calendars - I think if we tried we could find enough calendars to have New Year's Day every day. There's the French Revolutionary calendar, and the Mayan calendar, and the Buddhist calendar, and the Muslim one, and the Jewish one, and the Chinese one and the Cambodian one....

Hey Amy, no, WAGs are wild ass guesses, never heard the wives and girlfriends one.

And I would vote for a New Year's every day calendar!

William Marshal, often described as the greatest knight that ever lived was knighted in 1166, he went on to serve under five English Kings, Henry II, the "Young King" Henry, Richard I, John, and Henry III. Sir William later issued the final version of the Magna Carta to which he was a signer. He became a Knight Templar on his death bed. Quite an active guy.

He sure got around! The question is: would he have approved of celebrating New Year´s every day?

278, down 3 lbs this week! I am happy.

Down an even 3 stone, 42 lbs or 19 kg since I began in May, I'm real happy! Using Pam's approach I am 26% of the way to my goal weight, assuming my goal weight should be 160 lbs, I'm not sure about that yet. I'll know it when I see it.

Thanks to y'all for your support and help, I couldn't have done it without you. And thanks for tolerating my occasional rants.

If not he should!

Wow, that's amazing! I have lost that much, but from the May before this year's May. That's wonderful dedication!!!

Today was a good day, ate well, but probably drank a bit too much wine.

It was another sauce day, the farmer picked tomatoes and we followed behind picking up the rejects. They are on the stove now boiling down, we are getting close to having our winter supply. Picked more eggplant from the garden today, they will be tomorrow's dinner.

My sister in law came by tonight with take out from Off the Hook, they are food trucks that only serve fish fried fish and french fries, fish and chips I guess, but that's not what they call it. The one in our area moves around, today it was parked close to the house. I managed to resist the fried stuff, I know its good. I did eat one french fry, just to remember. I did get some other fish she brought over, she just got back from Alaska and had some smoked salmon caught and smoked by her son. A little was real good on the salad.

Wang Zhen the famous Chinese inventor published his treatise on agriculture the Nong Shu in 1313. I addition Zhen is credited with a number of technological innovations including the use of water power to drive a blast furnace bellows and most notably movable wooden type to make book publishing more efficient. He did this at least 100 years before Gutenberg introduced movable type in Europe.

Fresh wild salmon, home-smoked? Yum! Well done on staying away from the fried stuff.
