Alligatorob's Diary

Oh, wow! Rob! You are rocketing your way down to where you want be - galloping through the 250-300 club grounds! Great to see! :)

287 lbs, down another 2!
I am happy.
You have good reason to be happy. I am happy for you :)

Hey Rob,

I’ve just caught up on your diary. You’re still doing extremely well.

If it helps I don’t think any of us here find changing ourselves or our ways of living easy at all. Some days are easier than others but it’s always a struggle. You’re early on in your journey and starting to make habits. Once you set it as a habit you’ll find it easier. I find dieting extremely difficult because I don’t have the patience but exercise is working for me because it is really helping my mood and state of mind. A happy state of mind stops me wanting to eat unhealthy things. In fact I’ve just had fast food today for lunch for the first time in a long while and I instantly regretted it. It was just terrible!

Anyway my advice is when the demons of negative thinking or fear come to mind do something to take your mind off it; whatever that may be because craving generally only last 20 mins or so. Don’t give into the demons. Know that you can defeat them. You’re a lot stronger than you know.

It was a good day. I got a bunch of end of the crop cherries and am going to try freezing them, its my wife's idea. Hopefully they will be edible frozen, my wife freezes grapes and they are pretty good. I will miss the cherries. Our peaches should start getting ripe in a couple of weeks, I am trying to think of ways to preserve them. I have considered trying to make peach wine, I have made wine in the past never tried peaches. Internet research seems to indicate that everybody advises adding a lot of sugar, it seems dry peach wine is pretty tasteless. We tried freezing some last year, but I didn't think much of the frozen peaches. Most ways of peach preservation seems to involve adding a lot of sugar. Maybe I'll just have to be happy eating them fresh, nothing better than a tree ripened peach.

I did not eat enough today, but right now I feel pretty full and will skip my evening snack. Tomorrow I will try eating a little more early in the day. I ate a lot of fruit today, I find that pretty filling without many calories.

Tomorrow I have to have a tooth extracted, I am not looking forward to that. Until a little over a year ago I had all my teeth, but this will be my third extraction, and hopefully my last. I replaced one of them with an implant, but can't say I like it much. This one is the last molar, way in the back, so I will just see if I miss it before deciding what to do. Implants are awfully expensive.

In 998 BC King David established Jerusalem as the capital of the of Israel. An important event in the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religions. For a place of such religious important is sure has had a violent history. Not something I can understand.

Best of luck with the tooth and talk to the dentist about possible efects of not having a tooth there: sometimes the other teeth having more space can make them looser but I am not a dentist.

Cherries freeze really well. We had a big garbage bag full that our son gave us. I think I would recommend de-pipping them first though if you can be bothered. A de-pipper, specifically for cherries would be a cheap, handy tool. I love ours.
I find my tooth implant(or is it a bridge?) to be very annoying as it's in the middle of my lower front teeth. Do you have other opposing back teeth? I only have back teeth on one side but have lousy occlusion anyway & they don't connect really well. I manage though. Going to the dentist is so expensive!

Great job on the 2 pound drop, Rob! That's fantastic. I remember when I was around that weight, that was when I started to notice feeling healthier. Sleep was a little better and clothes were a little more comfortable. I wasn't as hot. If you notice things like that you might try to hold on to them and use them for motivation in the more difficult moments. It does get better as you keep dropping.

It was a good day, for a day that I had to have a tooth pulled anyway. The extraction went as well as possible I guess..... I have now lost 3 teeth, all lower molars. The two back ones on the right side and the back one on the left. I replaced the one on the right furthest forward with an implant, but that was a long, painful, and very expensive process and I can't say I like the implant a lot. So I will try to live with the other two back molars missing. We'll see.

I managed to eat a few more calories than yesterday, which I think was pretty good for a day of dental work. I'd like to stay at or above 1,200 calories. Going back to the whiskey nightcaps could do that for me, calories with absolutely no other nutritional value.

In 1128 Pope Honorius II recognized and confirmed the Order of Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon also known as the Knights Templar. Or maybe it was in 1139, depends on where you look on the internet. Can't say I know much about the Knights Templar, most of my knowledge comes from the Da Vinci Code movie, most of which is probably wrong.

A boiled egg or a piece of fruit smeared with some (pea)nut butter might make for a nutrituous and pleasant-tasting snack if you are looking for something. Not to mention nuts or seeds (unsalted if you don't want to be too tempted to eat more).

Maybe I'm lazy, but can you go into why you give this bit of story at the end of your posts? what is the history on your history?

Nut butters are also very easy to make. Home made helps you stay away from hidden preservatives etc etc. I used to make all my own cheeses, yoghurt, soy milk, butters but it just got too laborious to do it all. I’ve been meaning to start making yoghurt again though.

I make G some nut butter usually, but got lazy & bought some & he says it's nowhere near as nice as the home-made. I just blitz mixed salted nuts with some olive oil & pepper. Next time I make it I'll use unsalted nuts.
#zenobia- Rob just likes to entertain us with his little history snippets I think. I love them.

Be warned! I grew up having only homemade yogurt (from fresh milk from our neighbors´ cows) and store-bought hasn´t grown on me in the 25 years since my mom stopped making it. Only full-fat Greek yogurt comes close.

Wow that looks like my kind of dinner Alligatorob! Meatloaf and squash, YUM!

Btw, I love your little trivia facts! Some days it seems like everything is about diet and exercise and it sets my head back on a bit straighter. History is fascinating!

Hope you have another awesome day and get to scrounge a few last cherries. Oh, peach season approaches, rejoice!

Again it's been a while since I've been on, but I always love catching up on your journal. You're doing so well! Still loving the history notes as well!

One thing that I did catch was that you referred to caving to a food craving as a weakness... I know I've mentioned it before, but I try to discourage people from thinking that they are "bad" or "weak" when they eat something that they crave. Everyone's relationship and history with food is different, so there isn't one way to go about it, but I really believe that thinking negatively about yourself just because you had something you craved won't help you in the long term. What is so wrong about eating something that you crave once in a while? It's really just diet culture telling you to feel bad about it. There are certainly reasons to avoid eating certain foods all the time, for health reasons, but there is nothing wrong with incorporating reasonable amounts into your long term plan.

Sorry for the rambling response - it's summer holidays with my 6 year old at home which means my train of thought gets interrupted at least every 3 seconds!

i can't believe i was the only one curious enough to look it up... molars weight about 2gm. ... :)
So I lost 0.0044 lbs yesterday without the aid of dieting!
