Alligatorob's Diary

It's is nice to feel good and sore after a workout. You intuitively know it means you've accomplished something and those endorphins add to the feeling. Although I think the soreness is related to muscle recovery. Anyway, you know it's good.

Now please reread your last post and tell yourself what you'd tell me if I deflected every positive thing said about me like that!
Thanks to LaMa and others who called me out. I was not as respectful of your comments as I should have been. I do appreciate the kind words, thanks. I guess sometimes I have trouble accepting a lot of praise... Oh, well, on to other things.

It was a good day, I ate well and except for some well earned soreness feel good. It did snow today and I tried to ride the bike, but after about 20 laps in very cold blowing snow I gave up. I have been trying to bring my calories up a bit, and did not do too badly today. My next gym session is tomorrow.

The year 1122 in the Muslim calendar is approximately 1710 on the Gregorian calendar. And it was in 1710 that Smithwick's brewery in Kilkenny, Ireland was founded. Smithwick's ale can be purchased today at my local Utah State liquor store.

Yesterday's food looked terrific, Rob. One idea is to swap the breakfast Weetabix for more protein and fat like avocado toast, turkey sausage/bacon, cottage cheese or nut butter whole grain toast for example. I think increasing your calories (hopefully in the form of protein) is a great idea too especially if you're weight training.

I think increasing your protein would be a really good idea too, Rob. 20 laps in cold, blowing snow? Is this the same Rob as the Rob who started out in here? Wow. Well done!

Lovely to see you eating a bit more Rob and the other Rob gives you some good ideas .
I have been to that brewery years ago .

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good.

Did my second day at the gym, the weight training thing. It went well, I was able to do three rounds today, only 2 the first time. Next the trainer wants to move to alternating between upper and lower body 3 or 4 days a week. So far so good, sore, but not sore enough to stop me, and no real limitations, except my own strength. I signed up for 15 trainer sessions am starting to feel like that should be enough to get me started. I am sure that I am no stronger or fitter than I was before, not yet, but I sure know where my muscles are now, can feel the soreness in every one of them.
Gee whiz I think I would have given up before the first lap was done
It wasn't that bad, maybe I exaggerate a little. Thanks for your nice words Liza, I appreciate it.
I'm glad you ate at least a little more
The trainer told me the same as you, and lots of others here. So I am trying up the calories a little, but its hard, I was pretty comfortable around 1,000, I have a little fear of the unknown I guess.
I think increasing your calories (hopefully in the form of protein) is a great idea too especially if you're weight training.
Exactly what the trainer told me, I will see what I can do.
Is this the same Rob as the Rob who started out in here?
No, in many ways I am not. Probably the same, or similar on the inside, but not on the outside. Cate I appreciate your help, and the help of so many others helping me get here.
Lovely to see you eating a bit more Rob
Thanks Petal, I am starting to listen to you and the others on this, a little anyway. I can be pretty stubborn, its hard for me to change something that seems to be working. But I know I will eventually have to raise my calories, if I want to survive anyway, and some transition to maintenance is a good idea.

Temüjin Borjigin was born in 1162, Temüjin would go on to become Genghis Khan, arguably the most successful warlord in history. He did it of course with lots of rape, pillage and murder, but that is how most history has been made.

I hope you raise your calories sooner, rather than later Rob. Being stubborn & determined is one thing, but adding in gym work & bike riding without adding extra calories, especially protein is a worry.

Your second day at the gym sounds great Rob and loving the talk of continued raising of calories.

Looks like I posted the wrong food log by mistake. Today's is attached. Got the year right though!

I can be pretty stubborn
I believe you! :rotflmao: I mean - we've all see that stubbornness at work, and doing you a lot of good. :)
But I love that you're transitioning, bit by bit, and carefully, to a more protein-aware, maintenance-style eating plan - which will also do you a lot of good!
(and a special wave, because it looks like we're online at the same time, in real time! :seeya: )

I wish tbh I was as stubborn as you Rob and could stick to my plans. And as you are so stubborn and you realise that the extra calories will actually help not hinder you will have no problem eating them .
The gym sounds great.

Hey, I appreciate your suggestion re more protein. I found that there is a high protein special K cereal, I am going to try that. Thanks.

Hey, Rob. I looked up the protein Special K and it looks like it has a good amount of protein in it. Not a bad choice or a transition to perhaps something less processed and with even less carbs but still with high protein. Your food yesterday again looked great. Your protein was up. If you can think of it, you could go up even more. Agree with Petal that increasing your calories won't work against you. A sweet spot is going to be a little higher. I would guess 1200-1300 if you still want the same rate of loss you're achieving and maybe you'll feel better although you don't let on much here.

Rob I love special k . I avoid though as I could eat too much . Could you look at your yoghurt too. Some of them now have a pretty high protein content . Very low sugar which is good .

It was a good day, I ate well including more protein, exercised and I feel good.

I have noticed that my bike riding is getting a little harder with the weight training, guess it uses some of the same muscles. I only did 25 laps today, but that does get me about 25 min of cardio exercise. Once I get past this adaptation to weight training I should have no problem going back to my 40 laps. And the weather is getting better soon I will venture out and go for some longer rides. Right now I am only riding on days I don't weight train. I go in for day 3 of weight training tomorrow. The first 2 days we did both upper and lower body things, tomorrow is supposed to be lower body only, but some new lifts. I am getting less sore.
I love that you're transitioning, bit by bit, and carefully, to a more protein-aware, maintenance-style eating plan
Amy, I am trying to transition, but it will probably be in fits and spurts. Watching you and the others in or closer to maintenance than I, I am beginning to believe that's a good description of what maintenance looks like, fits and spurts. Nothing wrong with that if it works.
Yay for protein and a little more calories!
Thanks LaMa, I am trying.
I wish tbh I was as stubborn as you Rob and could stick to my plans.
Oh, being stubborn can be good or bad, but for sticking to the diet it's been good. For me the gym is great, so far, its probably still too early to tell.
I looked up the protein Special K and it looks like it has a good amount of protein in it.
Thanks Rob, on problem I can't find it locally, so I ordered some from Amazon, should be here in a few days.
maybe you'll feel better although you don't let on much here.
I don't say a lot about how I feel because I usually feel pretty good, probably the result of losing a lot of weight. I mean it in my intro when I say I felt good, on the odd days I don't I try to say so, but that is rare. I'm on a long feel good streak, hope it holds.
Could you look at your yoghurt too. Some of them now have a pretty high protein content . Very low sugar which is good .
Great suggestion Petal, I have been picking yogurt based on calories only. I looked at the labels on some that were already in my refrigerator and found that I have some high protein low sugar ones. Ate 2 of them today.

In 1118 (or maybe 1111) the Synod of Ráth Breasail took place in Ireland. It was an Irish national church council which took place in Ireland marking the transition of the Irish church from a monastic to a diocesan and parish-based church. Many Irish present day dioceses trace their boundaries to decisions made at the synod. This was a part of the recovery of the Irish Church and governments from the period of Viking raids.
