Alligatorob's Diary

It was a good day, ate well and I feel good. Had dinner out at a favorite Mexican place, I ordered the Topopo salad without dressing, but calories are just a WAG. I think I ate more than most days, which is fine.

First day at the gym, it was good, actually my first day at any gym since high school so it was a leaning experience. I am doing what they called strength training, it involves weights but the weights sure have changed since high school. A little stiff tonight, maybe sore tomorrow.
Would you get a personal trainer to work with on an ongoing basis?
I wish I could afford that, I do think I need her to get started, and maybe occasionally afterwards, we'll see. I've only been once, but I will go back. So far I like the trainer a lot, she praised me for everything I did, no matter how bad it was. Can't beat that! She also seemed to know what my limits were and pushed me up to them, but not over.
In my head this was about massive terrestrial storms
I know dendrochronologists can see wet vs dry years in tree rings, but not using C-14.
I always giggle when I see people riding the stationary bikes in the gym.
I hear that, and I don't plan to use the stationary bikes there, and I will be riding my bike to the gym, its only 1 or 2 km, and the snow and ice is getting less. Suppose to snow Sunday though. I have a month to month contract so not too bad. And the trainer is one session at a time.
Good point you will need to eat more when using the gym
Thanks Petal, and others, I did eat more today, guess I will see how it feels.

1183 BC was just one year after 1184 BC, one of the many reported dates for the fall of Troy.

If you are sore tomorrow don't be surprised if the scale number goes up a bit. It's just water.
Also: I just learned that titanoboa, the largest snake to ever have slithered the earth (as far as we know) weighed around 1135 kg. Just in case that's the amount of calories you're eating today :p It could get that big in part because cold-blooded creatures' metabolism gets faster in hotter climates and the earth was very warm at the time.

I'm impressed, Rob! By your decisiveness, as well as everything else - you see a gym, you bounce in, and the next thing you're signed up, getting some expert advice and it's all systems go! Well done, and I think it'll pay big dividends.

Love hearing about the gym, Rob. The strength training is the most important activity you can do for yourself at your age and for weight loss (aside from diet). With your consistency, you can start seeing a boost in your metabolism because of what you're doing for your muscles. Here's a good recent episode of a good podcast that explains more, How Can I Become A Fat-Burning Machine?.

Lol, I think they may end up helpful for Rob as he often falls in that range :)

Good for you for signing up for the gym and the trainer, Rob. It seems like you're always breaking new ground in this amazing weight-loss journey you've been on.

Rob you are a transformed man from your first post here . You keep to your diet and have lost over 100lb . You ride a bike , you ride your stationery bike , you volunteer at a bird refuge , you make peach wine , you are an amazing grandfather , you went on an amazing trip 2 weeks ago and had a fantastic time . and now you are a gym member . Truly amazing . You are a huge support here . Thank you .

Very great job on joining the gym Rob! You really are not a procrastinator are you? I could learn from that.
That's wonderful that you have a good trainer to help you get started. And very glad that you ate a little more to compensate for the body's extra work!

I love all of this. Well done Rob, you're awesome! :D

Petal, you humble me, you are a very kind woman. Thanks to Cate, Emily and others as well, not sure I deserve these kind words, but I do appreciate them. I value y'all's opinions.

It was a good day, a hard one, I was pretty sore from the workout but still managed to do a bunch of yard work. It was about 50 F (10 C) today, the warmest day since October or November, and snow is forecast tomorrow, so I wanted to get a lot done. And did but I can sure feel it now. I ate well and except for the sore and tired feel pretty good. And that kind of sore I can do.
titanoboa
I looked it up, very interesting, I would sure have liked to see one. Growing up in Florida we lived close to a place that claimed to be the world's largest importer of South American animals. We would catch local snakes and frogs to sell them. They let us wander the place from time to time, and I was always impressed by the anacondas (big, but no titanoboa), and we were able to touch and handle them more than was probably safe. I think the place eventually got shut down for questionable practices.
Well done, and I think it'll pay big dividends
Thanks Amy, I hope it does, but its too soon to know. I am not always that decisive, and to be honest I have been thinking about doing this for a couple of months, since I first found the place. I was just waiting to get back from vacation to pull the trigger.
It seems like you're always breaking new ground in this amazing weight-loss journey you've been on.
Thanks Jack, but it was me who put myself into the place that I needed a long journey to find a way out. Not that I am out yet, but I am beginning to see what looks like a light at the end of the tunnel. And I have gotten great support from the folks here along the way, I would not be here without y'all.
You are a huge support here
No more, and probably less, than you Petal, and a lot of other people, this place is a real team effort.
You really are not a procrastinator are you?
Oh, I can procrastinate with the best of em, can and have. How do you think I got to where I was just a few months ago?
read it out to G
Thank G for me, but I certainly don't feel that way. But thanks.
Well done Rob
Thanks Emily, again I don't feel that way, but thanks!

Could not find much interesting that happened in 1094, but did see this Angel Number thing, not idea what it means to me, but a few more bank notes are always appreciated.

The message, encoded in number 1094 relates to the field of money and hobbies and says that Your persistence in trying to keep your independence will very soon bring the long-awaited results in the form of bank notes. Your sociability, flexibility and non-standard thinking will be in trend, and someone will be willing to pay good money for your presence in the team. Try not to "give way" here too, otherwise the most valuable quality of your nature will be lost forever.

i love that feeling of a good day's work. And tomorrow you can watch the snow fall while you stay cozy warm inside sipping your coffee satisfied with all you got done today :)

:D Now please reread your last post and tell yourself what you'd tell me if I deflected every positive thing said about me like that!

This. 100 X this. Could not have put it better myself. You’ve done some amazing things Rob.

LaMa and Cate have hit the nail on the head, Rob, when they point out your shameless deflection tactics!! :p
And lots of us think you're terrific, and not only an inspiration to show what can be achieved, but a constant source of useful advice! But I do have to agree with you that:
this place is a real team effort.
So it is, and... group hug! :grouphug:
