Alligatorob's Diary

I'm glad you're taking it easy at the gym, Rob. It's great that exercise is now a given for you. I must go back & read the start of your diary soon. Mine too.

Today was a good day, ate well, did a couple of hours in the gym and I feel good tonight. Still doing easier things in the gym, but I seem to be sore anyway. Thanksgiving is coming, got a 27 lb turkey from a local farmer, fresh kill, should be good. We have a bunch of folks coming over. Big dinners like that don't really tempt me any more than any other day... we'll see.
That's great you are able to do half strength at the gym. Nice the binge didn't increase your appetite. :grouphug: Yes, thanks Rob. Dementia was just devastating.
Thanks Marsia
It's so good that while we all struggle, we all try so hard and are staying out of the realm of these awful diseases that come from being grossly overweight. I think overall we all are doing so well!!
I think you are right, most of us here are struggling a bit, but we are doing better than if we weren't here. Need to remember that.
The ashes are an attention-grabbing gimmick, like the whole restaurant concept. It's clearer and more honest (for a given value of honest) than your average fast food restaurant but that doesn't mean he cares or he'd be using his money to fund veg stands in food deserts or simple cooking classes in schools.
Ya think? Don't suppose we'll be seeing Heart Attack Grill aerobics classes or health food stores... LOL
That's great you are back on track again Rob!
Thanks Liza, it feels good to be.

Thanks Cate, it always helps to look back, makes our progress clearer.

That's the only bit where I'm a tiny bit torn: if he sponsored healthy anything under the name of the restaurant it would only be advertising/cleaning up his image and ultimately trying to make bad food look better. Large fast food chains do these things and I hate the concept even though the money can do a lot of good. I could remotely see the guy remembering his fitness roots and donating money anonymously out of a genuine desire to do good without tainting the association. It's a small chance but it would be so much better than named sponsoring.

Enjoy your dinner!

Today was a good day, ate kind of well, not too many calories anyway. Exercised and I feel good tonight. Spent the evening trying to figure out how we are going to cook the turkey, looked more closely, it's 29 1/2 pounds... biggest I've ever tried to cook.

Tomorrow I will be going to the gym, there is an early morning Thanksgiving cycling class. Very popular. I will probably be there an hour, no more.

Its just the way of business and human nature, we mostly do things that benefit us. Even here I think much of the support of others is done knowing that by supporting others we are helping ourselves.
Enjoy your dinner!
I plan to, thanks!

 That's so much turkey! Careful with the cycling class if it's anything like the ones we had: looking forward while your back ist close to horizontal is hard on the neck and so is supporting part of your bodyweight on your hands while "standing" on the peddles.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all!

Thanks Llama, the cycling I've been doing since surgery is all sitting upright. Most of the time not even holding the bar. And not real vigorous. Mostly just to make sure my legs are moving, faster than pre-surgery, but not much resistance.
That's so much turkey!
I don't plan to eat it all myself, LOL. The ham is smaller, only about 10 lbs. We will have about 25 people over for dinner, so a lot will get eaten. Probably not all, I expect leftovers.

I did not ask for such a big turkey, did not specify what size I wanted. When the farmer lady delivered it she said they let them get a bit too big this year. We have gotten turkeys from her before, most are more normal sized.

Yesterday started well, ate little in anticipation of a big dinner, but then thanksgiving dinner turned into a binge... got no idea how accurate the MFP calories are, but I know it was a lot... Before all that I did get to the gym for the cycling class and some other exercise, not a lot, not nearly enough for what was coming... Got these nice new socks for participating.IMG_4204.jpg
Still: assuming half the turkey is edible meat that's a total of a POUND of meat per head  That's so much meat
It was, way too much. However many of our guests went home with leftovers so we don't have too many. I'll be eating turkey for a while. It was too big to fit into any of our roasting pans, ended up cooking it in a kind of wash tub.

I am making a 10 pound turkey and it barely fits in my oven. And I’m not sure it will have leftovers this year.
Hey Vic, that is a much more reasonable size, it would have been about right for us. I usually do a 15 lb or so turkey, half the size of yesterday's
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too Rob 🦃
Thanks Cate, and other than the huge dinner it was good.

I don't think you would be alone in overeating on Thanksgiving Day, Rob. They are cool socks. Well done going to the gym!

Today was a much better day, not bad eating and I did about an hour at the gym. Getting colder, snowed a little...
Hey, at least you got some cool socks :)
Guess I should be grateful for the little things.

Thanks Cate, and I am sure you are right Thanksgiving is a binge day for many. Not a great excuse, but I guess its the only one I've got.

Another good day, ate reasonably well and got in a little exercise, just a cycling class but it was something. Got a picture of the Thanksgiving cycling class, with our prize socks.

Love that picture of you in your group, and love the socks, too! I can't imagine cooking a bird that big in the oven. It's pig roast size! You could have had a Thanksgiving Luau!!

Not the most balanced food day, but calories were not bad. Day off from the gym.
Cute photo, Rob!
Thanks Cate, I like it!
You look like a fun bunch! Also: those strawberry blonde women all look like they could be my cousins :D
It is a good bunch. As to hair color, most of the people here, and in that photo are descendants of the original Mormon settlers, they were northern Europeans, Scandinavians, British Iles and German. Lots of blonds and redheads. My family is similar, my mother and one of my brothers strawberry blonds, other brother a redhead. I'm the only one without much red. Maybe we're cousins?

Thanksgiving Luau! I like it. We did put a few apples into the bird for flavoring, but none in the mouth, that was gone. Dog liked the apples.
Great photo Rob. Nice socks!
Thanks, never knew I wanted a pair like that, happy now that I have em!
