**Akani1's Weight Loss Diary**

Nuts are a good way to boost calories for the day as is cereal and peanut butter/ Not going to keep lecturing you but find it very hard to read this diary without commenting on how little you're eating. One bite of a protein bar and half a cup of mash just seems obsessive. Why not have a whole cup as you know your calories are so low? Know you want to be "perfect" for your wedding but this seems a step too far.

Anyway, I hope you're having a good day. Sorry for lecturing.

Hi Sunflower! No u aren't lecturing, thanks for looking at my diary. I have decided maybe I will have tofu instead of potatoes..and like u said, I am admit I am being obsessive about my wedding. Hope u are having a good day too :)

Please eat more :( 660 calories when you burnt over 800 is just insane and so, so un-healthy :( It seems to me that you're starving yourself. I know you don't weigh much so you don't need as much as most people on here but at LEAST over 1000 is still needed. You are actually hindering your progress in the long run. I read this today:

"Why does a very low calorie intake slow down weight loss?

Quite simply, your body goes into 'starvation mode'. This mechanism, which is thought to have evolved as a defence against starvation, means the body becomes super efficient at making the most of the calories it does get from food and drink. The main way it does this is to protect its fat stores and instead use lean tissue or muscle to provide it with some of the calories it needs to keep functioning. This directly leads to a loss of muscle, which in turn lowers metabolic rate so that the body needs fewer calories to keep ticking over and weight loss slows down. Of course, this is the perfect solution if you're in a famine situation. But if you're trying to lose weight, it's going to do little to help you shift those unwanted pounds."

That's the last I'll say on it and I don't want to come across like I'm lecturing you but I'm genuinely concerned for your health.

I don't mean to take side in whatever a very low calorie diet is good or not, however, your quote is wrong. "Starvation mode" does in fact do the exact opposite of what it says - it will cause your body to save muscles and use fat instead.

(This is unless you're already lean and your body wants to keep on to what fat is has)

Oh, I will however say that I strongly disagree with the way you do a VLCD. If you're going to eat such few calories, you should do in a way that will give you all the nutritions etc that you need, like the Cambridge diet or similar.

Hey congrats on the upcoming wedding. I got married in August this year so I understand the "wanting to look perfect". I would imagine with such low cals and exercising so much you would feel tired and burnt out well that won't look good come wedding day. I also think you need more veggies in your diet - where's the fiber? Or fruit. Aren't you sick of oatmeal?
Anyway hang in there and good luck on the last minute wedding plans.

I have been searching online about "starvation mode" and have seen some sites that indicate that it is actually a MYTH! I will continue to just read around and see what else i find, in the meantime, im going to continue on my low calorie diet. I weighed myself. I have since lost another .5 pounds. i went from 107 to 106.5 pounds I do realize the skinnier i get, the harder i have to work out to burn more calories.

@ Chubbygirl- thank you. You look wonderful in your wedding! Congrats on your weight loss so far! I LOVE oatmeal. I dont think i can get sick of oatmeal. I get 2 kinds of oatmeal- the maple and brown sugar high fiber one, and the maple and brown sugar weight loss control one. I can eat it for a whole year straight and not get tired! I know i eat the same thing over and over and over- i love oatmeal.

its so discouraging, i tried this calorie calculator thingee where you input your exercise and how many calories you burnt..it asks you to input your weight. I find the lower you weigh the LESS calories you burn doing the same exercise as oppossed to someone who weighs more than you.

Good job on your loss :) Though, I think the *myth* about starvation mode is not that it doesn't exist but rather the -time- it takes for metabolism to show a significant slowdown. I don't actually remember but I remember reading something like that on the one of the stickies.

Thanks day behavior. The last 3 days have not been good. Pigging out due to holidays. I gained to 108.00. Well start my diet again today

Hey girl,

Know your wedding is a few weeks away! Try to do your best while not overhausting yourself. Even if you do set a mini goal and reach it you are still working towards the end-goal!!!!

I have not been on here forever. I continue to gain weight (im at 113 pounds) and have been lethargic and exhausted constantly to the point I want to sleep all day. Im so tired i dont even go to the gym anymore. Next week I go to the doctor to have them check my thyroid.

Hey welcome back. Hope you had a happy wedding. Sorry to hear about your condition and hope you turn out OK :( I'm proud of you for coming back regardless though.

Hey Akani,

Saw your post. Do get checked by the doctor. I have anemia and experience similar symptoms but I know thyroid is a bit more serious. It is so hard to keep on top of exercise and just life in general with low energy. It's a good thing you decided to go to the doctor. I need to go for my physical as well. Do update us on your results though I hope nothing major comes from it.

Hey Akani,

Congrats on the wedding btw, forgot you are probably a married woman by now, lol.

Anemia sucks, I think it's a hindrance in the weight loss process. For example, exercise is supposed to make you feel great after, right? I feel so tired at the end of most of my workouts and so drained of energy that all I can do is sleep after. Also, I think my anemia is a bit more severe in that my blood count is in the lower side of the low range.

I do have to take iron pills but I will admit I have not been consistent and have tried three to four different brands now as they all react a bit differently to the body.

But I think it's good you got tested. There is no point living a life when you are not at a 100% everyday....I think there are days I feel dead on the inside due to lack of energy and I would not wish it on anyone. It's highly frustrating and depressing.

Anyways, yeah, this year I figure small goals should do the trick. Keep us posted on your progress!!!!

Hey how'd the wedding go? When I saw you back I assumed you would have posted about it. Can we see a pic? Glad you have you back - hope your feeling better soon.

It was fantastic! I posted one picture in an album of me on wedding day. Sorry not the best, it was the only one i could find with a body shot...the other pictures hadn't come in yet

So to all who is reading:

I just wanted to fill you in on my hike that i did last week. If you guys haven't hiked before, i suggest you at least try it ONCE, it is sooo much fun! December 31, 2010, what other way to end 2010 by hiking up Mt. Woodson!! Located in Poway, CA. Mt. Woodson has 2000 FT Elevation gain (compared to Mt. Cowles that we hiked on Tuesday.. @ 1,591 feet elevation).

Things I'd like to share about the hike..
*Along the way, hikers TWICE my age sprinted past us!
*Fellow hikers were really friendly, saying "hi" as we passed them. (note: with the exception of college aged hikers, they just ignored us)

It was 6.4 miles round trip and the view and scenery were breathtaking! It was pretty much ALL uphill...3 miles UP.

So the pedometer says....
V
V
V
20,000 STEPS AND 1126 CALORIES BURNED!!!
We started the hike at 10AM and finished at 2PM.

I uploaded 2 pics of the scenery in my album.

I hope everyone is having a good year so far!
