Aeris's Diary

dropping in to say hi!
dun let the scales freak u out... it happens. and errrr...dun keep weighing yrself. will drive u crazy.
hv a good day!

Hi all - yeah, scales are weird, I'm sure it was just a water weight thing. Ah, if one could lose a pound for every three hours of sleep!!

Just had lunch - Annie Chun's Soy Ginger soba noodles, Quorn Naked Cutlets and baby corn (the latter two soaked in ginger, onion, and garlic -mmmm)

Did HIIT cardio this morning - hurt like anything for some reason - not sure why. Wasn't able to go as hard or long as normal. Wondering if it's because I cheated and had a cigarette last night ! :0

Heading back to the gym in a few hours to do my lower body strength training routine. Hopefully this will be shortly than yesterday's upper body - it took me an hour and 15! But that's partially because I'm ridiculously inefficient - I was also reading the instruction for every machine!!

BF bought a basketball, and wants to (attempt to) teach me how to play - that might be a more fun way to get in some exercise some days. :)

Yeah, it's potentially scary - we're, um, a little competitive :D but I don't know how to play at all, so my competitive streak shouldn't kick in. (At least I'm not one of those who gets competitive with NO CHANCE of winning!!) But HIS might, even though it's clear he can trounce me. So we shall see! I think as long as I'm not competitive and flirt coquetishly the whole time, it should be okay. :p

Did my lower body routine today -- and had to spend some time in the 'dude' section of the gym (you know the section I'm talking about!) I was the ONLY girl in the whole section (which is a whole floor of the gym). The guys kept looking at me kind of.... perplexed... what, I can't do squats? Is it not worth anything to you because I use just the bar (at 45 lbs) and you squat with 145??? ARGH! Stupid boys. I think they've only ever seen girls on the ellipticals and using the thigh adductors!

Just had an egg white omelette liberally sprinkled with 'Italian seasonings'. I think I'm going to minor cheat and have a cookie a friend brought over. They look super good.

Oh, fascinating observation: I went cold turkey off soda on Labor Day - yesterday, bf had a pepsi, and I decided to have a sip because I've heard it tastes totally different after you've been off it. It tastes AWFUL. As in, geniunely gross. I took a tiny, tiny sip, and have NO DESIRE for soda EVER AGAIN. So weird - I was so seriously addicted and now I think about having a soda, and I get a memory of that nasty taste from yesterday.

I guess I'm retraining my taste buds again!! As I posted before, once upon a time I hated things with high saturated fat - they tasted nasty to me. I'd have a few french fries and be DONE. I'm not there with fries yet, but maybe if I do this healthy thing for long enough, I will be! All about momentum!

sodas taste nasty, I never would have thought that..... I want one so bad....

I don't know if it was just going off soda, or the fact that I have cut out almost all refined sugar as well, but you might try both, then take a teensy sip. Bet you'll be surprised!!

Now that I'm really thinking about the Pepsi and french fry thing, I'm thinking a lot about the eating habits I had when I was a teenager (and had a body I'd die to have again now). While I wasn't a proclaimed 'healthy eater' at all, I had some certain natural habits that I lost along the way, and I want to regain...

Like the french fry thing: saturated fatty foods didn't necessarily taste horrible to me at first, they tasted good, but after a few fries or bites of funnel cake, or whatever, I felt kind of sick to my stomach.

And my mother and I used to get one of those refrigerated tubes of pre-made cookie dough - and I'd have about a spoonful and be satisfied. She would sit there and go through about a quarter of it (which is, incidentally, what I've done over the past few years as well). Or Oreos - she'd get a pack, I'd have 2, she'd have 15. Labor Day weekend, I bought a pack and ate the entire thing in two days. I think my disgust at that was one of the things that kicked this whole thing off. Same thing with shortbread cookies.

I was also a definite "grazer" in high school. I ate what people thought were tiny amounts, but I was eating all the time nearly (so I'm pretty sure I had the same number of calories as anyone else, but if you just looked at us sitting at a restaurant it seemed like I didn't eat much). A lot of people seem to think that this boosts your metabolism during the day (and also keeps you more satisfied).

None of this stuff was intentional, but I think it was all pretty good. I've lost most of these habits now - I'm going to make an effort to reclaim them. That way, after I get my goals met, and I'm not watching every little thing, I won't reach for the fries, the oreos, the shortbread. Or I'll have one, when available, and move on.

Interesting - I can sit a blame age and whatever else all I want, but my activity levels and eating habits have definitely been worse over the last few years I realize. Sigh.... no one to blame but myself - but then again, that means it's within my power to fix it, right!!!

Okay, so I've been totally MIA for more than a week. I dropped down a bit again, so it seems like I am indeed making slow progress!! YAY!:D And I'm definitely BETWEEN size 6 and 8 now - closer to an 8, but hey, getting there! I tried on this dress I had last night - it used to fit me perfectly a number of years ago - super sexy, lightly clinging - yeah, tried it on this summer - barely got it ON! and it looked AWFUL. Pulled in all the wrong places, barely contained my rear!! Well, tried it on last night, and it still doesn't look like it did when I bought it, but NOTHING like it looked this summer!! I MIGHT even be okay to wear it in public! :D :D

Oh, and I figured out something about that sleeping and losing weight thing I had posted about before. My weight fluctuates during a day from 3-5 pounds - I'm lightest in the morning, and it slowly increases. So, as I sleep, I assume I lose water, both through respiration, and also actually going to the bathroom when I wake up. So each night, I "lose" those 3-5 pounds. If I only sleep for 4 hours, then I'm not getting back down to my lowest weight, and appear to be heavier than I ought. It'd be nice, of course, if this meant that I could sleep 12 hours and lose even more, right!!? But no, there's an upper end of 8-9 hours - any more than that doesn't seem to make much difference. Weird, huh? I'm glad I understand why it's happening now!

Today's toast: To Quorn meatballs!! (vegetarian goodness):D

i didnt know exactly how much people lost, and that's definitely more motivation to go to sleep early!

plus-CONGRATS ON THE SLIM DOWN! I definitely cant wait to get into clothes i've been waiting to try on!!!

You know, I keep reading in SOOO many places that getting 8 hours of sleep a night is crucial to a weightloss plan - I guess this is one of many reasons why!

Thanks! It really is inspiring with the clothes! I'm too scared to try on some other skirts I have - I'm afraid they'll still look awful. I think maybe I'll wait until I've lost a bit more, then go for it. :p

So Aeris,
Are you a full Veggie or do you eat some meat? I was just wondering cause I could use a veggie friend to trade (or gain) vegetarian receipes with.
Sounds like you are doing really well with your fitness plan.
I know what you mean about the clothes.
I tried on all of my dress clothes this morning for a job inteview...two things fit! I could scream ( Ok I did scream).

Keep up the good work!
Sleep here I come. :)

I'm a full on vegetarian. I actually used to be a vegan, but I only did that for about a year. I'd be more than happy to be a veggie friend! I don't cook a ton, but I've got a few staples for myself that are working really well. Check out my Fitday Diary (link in signature) to see what I'm eating.

Oh I hear you - I can't tell you how I felt last year - I hadn't worn 'date clothes' (clubbing or even just dinner and drinks clothes) for a year or more (because the first year of law school is nuts). But the second year afforded the bf and I a little more freedom - and every time we'd decide to go out, I'd go to the closet (full, mind you, of the memories of how these clothes looked on me in COLLEGE) and would try on item after item, getting more and more desperate and frustrated, and feeling more and more disgusting. Can I just say that ruined MONTHS of dates? By the time we left the house, I'd cried already, and felt like I was wearing a sack, and nothing he could say would make me feel moderately attractive. Real romantic! (I feel so sorry for him looking back!)

For my self esteem's sake, I should have just bought cute date clothes that fit, but that would have required coming to terms with the fact that I was a different size - and I couldn't quite bring myself to do it.

Dinner: Half a pack of White Wave Stir Fry Seitan strips, a stalk of broccoli, and a quarter of an onion, stir fried in a bit of Olive oil and liberal amounts of powdered ginger and garlic, along with orange peel.

Mmmm.

gotta get to the gym tomorrow, do upper body weight training exercises.

OH! I almost forgot!! I went over to a friend's house who has a bodyfat scale - last time it was 26.7%, about 3-4 weeks ago - a few days ago it was 25.8%!!!! YEAH!! How much does that rock! :D :D
