A Skinnier Me

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this website, actually, this is my first post. I decided to join because I've heard that it is much easier to diet with a support group to back you up, and daily blogging of how many calories I consume and weight I lose will be super beneficial wen it comes to sticking to my diet!

As of now, I'm roughly 5'4 and weigh 126 pounds. While I know that I'm not heavy, I would like to lose some weight just to become more confident about myself, as my mood and outlook on my appearance changes depending on the scale (not good, I know)

According to some online weight calculators, to:

Maintain my weight I must eat: 2089 calories/day
Lose Weight: 1250 calories/day

Does that sound right to all of you? Honestly, that amount of calories seems high for me, because I don't usually eat that much and I feel like eating 1671 calories/day would actually be what I would eat in an average day. Advice?

So please bear with me as I rant and blog about my daily diet!

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
Six pounds
-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
Hopeful to lose it by a month from now, August 24th
-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Healthy eating, lots of exercise!
-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
Friendly posters who can help encourage and give advice!
-- How realistic is your goal?
I think it is reasonably realistic
-- When will you start?
NOW!

Calories look fine. If you aren't counting your calories, you're most likely over-eating. People tend to underestimate their intake way too much. If you're eating under maintenance you would be losing weight, regardless if it took a month or not.

250 calories under maintenance would net you a 1lb loss every 2 weeks so you're obviously eating more then your maintenance. Those online calculators are just an estimation so they aren't 100% reliable.

Eat good food, get adequate protein to maintain your LBM and lift weights 3 days a week, 2 days of cardio.

Thanks for the advice! I probably am overeating, hmn, this calorie counting is a good idea, and I'll try my best to stick with it!

7/24/10 Log
Mood: Woke up a little early today, my dad was blasting the tv since he just got back from a business trip with a different time zone... Feeling kinda heavy from last night (had a dinner party) and did not restrain myself from any of the delicious food...

7:30 A.M
-3/4 cup frosted flakes cereal
-1/2 cup 2% fat milk
*174 calories

11:30 A.M
-banana
*105 calories

2:00
-2 nectarines
-yogurt with one big cup of granola
*540 calories

6:30
-lean cuisine chicken breast with pineapple sauce
*260 calories

for a total of 1079 calories, i will probably have a snack sometime later, but overall I'm not hungry at all, an encouraging sign :)

Remember muscle is more dense then fat, so you might actually *look* better if you gain alot more muscle then as if you just loose weight (Because even really thin people can be flabby)

Good luck on you're goals and welcome to the boards !

Thanks! I'll work on adding in more protein, perhaps some egg whites for breakfast.

I agree completely! Honestly, I know that I have A LOT of muscle (soccer for 11 years does that to you) especially on my legs, but I'm glad that I'm more muscular than flabby, even if it results in hating going jean shopping :p

Thanks for the support!

Mood: I'm doing pretty well, feeling sorta like yesterday. I haven't weighed myself yet, probably won't till tomorrow because I tend to give up and start severely under-eating if I feel like I haven't gone down on the scales (horrible, but true).

To start off today:

7:00 a.m.
- 1/2 cup granola
*140 calories
- yogurts
*70 calories

9:30
-1/2 tbsp peanut butter
*47 calories
-fuji apple
*72 calories

Hopefully the rest of today will go well too!

blahhhhhh, i was doing fine today until my obachan (japanese for grandma) called and asked us to go out to dinner. I was going to have friends over, but my resolve crumbled and off I went. I didn't eat TOO much, it was a sorta meal where all the dishes are small and you share them with everyone at the table, but I had a lot of little things, so I'm sure they all added up...

and THEN...

out came the chocolate lava cake with vanilla icecream.

darn.

I think I ate at least 2/5 of it myself, not including the icecream, but I ate really slowly and with small portions on my spoon at each time so it kinda slowed me down.

One thing I hate about restaurants is that there is no way to accurately count your calories, so I'm just leaving the rest today as a flop, I know I was at 700 calories before I went to the restaurant, so hopefully I didn't overeat too much...

TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY!

Since I'm pretty active ( I really enjoy the gym actually, weird, right?) I'm going as soon as I get up in the morning, hopefully around 5:30 or 6 and I'm going to POWER through all my exercises and BURN BURN BURN those lava cake calories!

Started off my day well, got to the gym at 6:30 this morning and burned 400 calories and did a whole bunch of abs. Had to stop at 400 because I have soccer practice today and my coach will be mad if she knew I was going to the gym on practice days...

I'm never hungry in the morning, so before going to work out I only had a medium sized apple with a teaspoon of peanut butter (Recently tried this, an d LOVE it!) for 103 calories.

Got back home (went to the grocery store to pick up some healthy food) at 9:00ish and had 1/4 cup of quakers oatmeal w/ 1.5 tsp light brown sugar (only 15 calories per tsp!) for 100 calories even.

203 calories so far, at 10:00 in the morning, so I'm feeling pretty good! :)

Oh, also, I decided to make my average intake of calories per day lower, because according to a calculator, if I want to reach my goal weight in a month I, "should consume about 1,374 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 120 by August 26, 2010."

I know that my calorie intake is as accurate as I can make it, but I know I go over without meaning to, so I'm going to aim for 1250 calories/day... I hope it works!

Hope ya'll are having a great day!

Small triumphs are going to make me lose this weight!

Since it's summer and I'm a high school student, I have all the time in the world, so I decided to take a nap at 10:30, I was SO tired. When I woke up, it was 12 and I knew I should probably eat something, just so I wouldn't overeat later and had 180 calories worth of quaker oatmeal, YUM! :)

Then, my dad wanted to go out to lunch, but I wasn't hungry so I told him I'd drive him over there (I have my permit and need to practice). We went to Daphne's Greek Restaurant and I was surprised at how healthy they are! So much in fact, that they show the amount of calories right next to all their food selections. He ordered and I decided to take some back home for dinner, so I got steak kabobs. He sat down to eat, and of course you all know how hard it is to just sit with food next to you and not eat, so instead of diving into my dinner-food, I just ate the salad (dry, yay me!) and felt pretty good about my choice!

Went home at 2 and decided to reward myself with a Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Bar, and let me tell you, THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS and ONLY 130 calories!!! Praise the Lord, you won't believe how big they are and how good they taste!

YUMYUMYUM!

It's 2:30 here and I'm at 533 calories, and completely full. Off to practice at 5:30 and back home by 8 to eat my Daphnes food!

Kinda low for the day, might have another nectarine if I feel hungry later, as of now I'm perfectly content! :)

I worked out this morning and then had an intense conditioning practice for my club soccer team, so I'm going to try to eat a little more. What a glorious feeling to have calories to spare!

Good morning everyone!

Got up at 5:30 this morning, going to hit the gym before I go on college tours for a few days... going to be staying in hotels and won't be home to eat as healthy as I would like, so wish me luck with portion control!

Ugh, it's going to be that time of month for me soon, and I feel bloated like a whale!! I'm afraid to weigh myself, because of what might come up on the scale. Should I weigh in anyway just to see where I am? Or should I just wait till this time of month is over?

Advice from any of you lovely ladies?

I there I just read throught your diary! To answer your question when the time of the month is around you have to expect that your weight will be affected, so if you really under eat when you don't like what the scale shows you I suggest you wait till a few days after tom is done to weight in! I noticed also that you don't eat that many vegetables I find that vegies make great snacks and lunch and they contain fibers that your body needs. It's just a suggestion mabe instead of processed surgary snacks you could have fruits or vegies instead. You do find with calories but you also have to look at how nutritious your food is, some foods are just empty calories that are not nutritious or won't really give you energy, again that is just a suggestion, and proteins are really important too you should try to incorporate some at every meal even if it's a handfull of nuts. Your workouts look great!! I wish you all the luck in the world!!! You are doing great!

Thanks so much for the support and advice! I'm bad with veggies, never really been to my liking but I'll be SURE to try to incorporate them more into at least my lunch and dinner! You're right about the protein too, I just realized how little of it I've been eating...weird since I LOVE LOVE LOVE meat! I'll work on that too!

Thanks again for all the support, you're helping me have the motivation to follow through with my healthy eating!

SUCCESS!

HURRAY!

I was SO nervous this morning (after I came back from the gym) to weigh in, seeing that I am a little bloated, but I couldn't help myself since I haven't weighed myself in 3 days... but I came in at 124.5! I know some of it is water weight but it still is a very encouraging sign!

I don't know what I would have done if I had come out weighing more (which I was worried would happen) because that would totally discourage me from keeping up my healthy diet, but this is just the push I need!

120 pounds, HERE I COME!

Hello everyone!

6 hour drive to go look at some colleges, even though I still have a lot of time left in high school to worry about higher education, my sister is a senior now and I decided to tag along. :)

Good day for me! Went to the gym, but only burned 300 calories, I was so sore from my double work out yesterday and I just didn't have it in me.

To start off today:

8/27/10

6:30
-chocolate rice cracker (never hungry in the morning, but knew I had to eat something anyway)
*60 calories

9:00
-1/4 cup oatmeal+2 tsp light brown sugar (this is DELICIOUS)
*105 calories

1:00
-rice cracker (in the car for 6 hours and had the munchies even though I knew we were stopping for lunch soon, but hey, it's a guilt-free food for me! :) )
*60 calories

2:00
-6' roast beef subway sandwich w/ roast beef, lettuce, a little bit of mayo and honey mustard (SO GOOD)
*310 calories

so far at 535 calories at 5:30 in the evening, going out to eat a sushi dinner later, plenty of calories to spare!

Finished today at a Japanese restaurant, ordered their teriyaki beef, which was pretty good, but HUGE!! I'm happy to say that I only ate about 1/3 of the meat and half the rice scoop, but it did come with some orange pieces, miso soup, and salad so I ate most of those, which are lower in calorie so I'm not too worried...

I'm going to count it as around 600 calories... I hope it's a good estimate!

that brings my total to:

1,195 calories for the day. Still, I feel kinda gross from all the eating out... :/

hi there :0

just one comment...when you are being so low with your calorie intake, you need to be careful about getting in all your nutrients...and things like chocolate rice crackers and ice cream bars will not do it...it isn't just about getting low calories, but fueling your body with what it needs :)

anyway i wish you the best of luck.

You're completely right...

I really need to start being better with what I put into my body, I always have trouble getting those veggies in!

Thanks for the well wishes, I'll try to get my diet to be healthier!
