A new chapter begins

Hi Juni! Thanks for stopping by my journal. I love running too!! Used to be a lot better at it though, I guess it's something to work towards :) I agree about your cousin- good on you for being honest with her. Congrats on your loss so far!

Thank you for visiting my journal. I saw some of your beautiful pics. I will visit you often there. Good luck to you too!

Anyone here with some insight on strength training. I can google it and find out more but I don't know what info is correct? Also, I don't have access to a gym so can't ask my trainer, whatever I do I would have to do it at home and learn it myself. They say strength training is a MUST for those who are running. Please help!

Hey Juni! You are on a roll!! Great work over the weekend - I think you did fantastic! I love weekends too and count down the days till they are here. I just wish I had more control over weekends - I have faith I will get there one day. I just have so many bad habits related around weekends and get togethers and parties that I need to change and create new healthy habits!
About strength training - I think it is very important. I feel like I don't get enough but I'm working my way up. You don't want to lose your muscles and if you don't use them you lose them. I do the majority at home but use some of the machines at the gym too. Push-ups, squats, lunges are all good and I use a 10 lb dumb bell to work my arms - bicep curls, tricep dips, shoulder press, etc. There is a whole section on this website a bunch of stickies related to strength training you should check out. A lot of stuff to do at home too.
Keep it up this week Juni - it's really motivating!!

Thanks Lisa. Will check them out. And thanks so much for replying to the post. I am popping over to check out your journal. You are doing really well too. How about we promise to be less naughty this weekend?

I don't think going cold turkey completely on the weekend will be good for either of us. I was thinking I will limit my drinking this weekend and make healthier choices. I know you are allowed to spoil yourself once in a while, but I wanna test to see if I can be as good over the weekend of not.

So here's my proposal- about three glasses of wine (the entire weekend), lots of veggies and fruits , less starchy junky food and exercise (preferably Sunday evening)? :)

So here's my food and exercise log for 28 April- I may have gone a little over my calorie limits yesterday (just checking on fitday.com)-. Yep I did go over by about 400 cals (yikes!!)

B: watermelon
S#1: Apples with hommemad hummus
S#2: corn pops with 2 percent milk
S#3: two carrots
L: Sandwich with hummus and smoked chicken.

A few hours later I went for a run (I ran for 12 mins straight!!!) I was on D2wk5 and decided to challenge myself. i have also started doing some situps, squats. I also started my run with a really long stretch. FEEELING GREAT. The last bit was a little difficult though. Tomorrow I have to run 20 mins without stopping. REALLY dreading it. Yikes!!

S: Almonds
D: Chicken Biryani (this totally upped my calories), arugula salad (should have really stopped at the salad) and Raita (spiced yogurt with tomatoes, mint leaves).

Then I went on and had dessert. Two small pieces of dark chocolate.

I am gonna stay under my calorie limit today and tomorrow so that I can splurge a little over the weekend. Will have to find a way to limit my drinking over the weekend....

Two days till weekend!

So I cheated yesterday (although I promised not to weigh myself middle of May, I went on the scales yesterday). I am down to 139.4 but I am not going to change the ticker until I become a little less ( oh i hope, i hope, i hope). I should be happy that I am losing but I am busting my balls and the result is just .2 here .3 there. I wish the numbers will go down a little more...but I must not be patient.

It is strange though....my clothes tell more than the scales. I can fit on my clothes better (have lost some around the hips, I think). Is that possible? To not go down in scales but still lose or am I just imagining things now coz I so desperately want some results? Any insights anyone???

Deal - I will try extra hard this weekend and I am going to track everything!! I usually only track until dinner and then it all goes down the tub - this weekend will be different and I will post all my food and exercise on Monday - I think being accountable will help in my decision making! I don't plan on partying either so 3 glasses of wine should do it!!

Don't dread it - you can do it! You did 12 so there is no reason you can't do 20! Make sure you have good music to keep you going! Sometimes I like to chew on a piece of gum while running although I know I could probably choke on it but it helps with my breathing - not sure why.

Great job 139 is amazing! Oh I'm imagining the day! I wish the #'s would go down faster too! day by day and we will get there.
I don't think you are imagining your clothes fitting better - I have that happen too and then all of a sudden the scale will go down so just stay consistent and it will happen. Could just be muscle coming back since it weighs more which is why the scale hasn't moved much - keep it up and the scale will match the way your clothes feel soon - don't forget to take measurements because the changes in that will also help when the scale makes you grouchy!
Have a great night!! and weekend if I don't chat with you tomorrow!!

I was good today until after lunch when I had a sugar attack...I was feeling sooo gross as I was stuffing chocolates in my mouth but I couldn't stop. I was like someone else. I knew I shouldn't have it yet I had about five pieces of dark chocolate and six or seven m&ms. I don't even wanna know how many calories they were....yikes.

Other than that I was alright:

B: Watermelon, melon
S#1: Whole-wheat crackers with hummus
L: a small bowl of leftover biryani with yogurt

Then I had the sugar attack (yuck!)
S#1: Popcorn and a glass of guava juice
S#2: A glass of 2 percent milk
Dinner: Salad, cooked veggies and lentil soup..

I think I made up with a simple dinner... So in a way I don't feel THAT bad.

20mins run tomorrow. Maybe I'll wake up early and go for a run so that I am done done done and won't have to think about it. Why the hell am I dreading it so much? This is what I used to feel like before a biiiig test in middle school. I hate this feeling of dread.

Wish me luck guys.

OMG, we its almost the weekend!

Great, so happy I have you on board with this. yayay!

This is very encouraging, thank you. It is all about breathing, isn't it? I don't get side stitches like I used to when I started running, so I am slowly getting the breathing down, I think. Haven't tried the chewing gum. My squash coach in school used to forbid us from getting on the courts if she found we showed up for warm up with a gum in our mouth. So I have it drilled in my head that I must not chew gum while running..... I may try if I am having trouble breathing...thanks for the tip.

Thanks Lisa. I hope hope you are right. I haven't measured myself since I started. I think I will do it this weekend. I would looooove to see the scales go down suddenly. One day at a time, right? :) Talk soon. Have a lovely Thursday.

Hey Junni!!! You have been training so well and I am on board with Lisa if you can run 12 Min with out stoping I am sure you can do 20 that is 8 more min!!!!! I beleive you can do it!!!!!!

I ran....I ran like I have never run before. I was supposed to run 20 mins straight today, and had been dreading it the entire week. Also, my thighs were hurting because i was doing some yoga positions yesterday and may have stretched too much. I thought I couldn't do it at all. So I was telling myself I will run for however long I can.

The first five mins were okay, then from 8-15 mis I thought I was going to die. But I slowed my pace, relaxed and kept going. And guess what.....I ran for TWENTY SEVEN MINUTES!!! I haven't run for so long in SUCH a long time. I thought I was going to crash today after the run, but I am feeling really good. I had to sneak out of work for the run today, and now I am at my desk with more energy than ever before. I feel like I can conquer the world. :)

Thanks Lisa and Veronique. You guys rock. I read your posts before going out and I kept thinking of both of you when I ran. What a great end to a good week and what a great start to the weekend.

I am going to be extra extra good this weekend. I am gonna stick to it, Lisa. :) :) Lets compare notes on Monday.

My meals today

B: Watermelon and melon
S#1: Lentil soup
S#2: Almonds before the run
L: Smoked chicken sandwich with plain yogurt and veggies (cucumber, carrots, tomatoes)
S: popsicle (LOL!)
S2: probably leftover lentil soup
D: probably lamb chops (small) with arugula salad (yummy!)

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!!

THAT IS SO AWESOME!!! Wow you did so much better than you were even planning to do! Isn't that feeling just great!
I do plan to be good this weekend but I don't know about extra good - it will be extra good to what I'm used to but I do still plan to have a cheat meal or a small indulgence. I hope to stay within my points though so I will just work harder for those treats! Looking forward to comparing notes on Monday!
Have a great weekend Juni - you totally deserve it!!

Grrrrr.......i wrote everything and he internet ate it. So here it is again.

I had a good weekend. I was invited to a birthday brunch on Saturday, where I indulged a little bit but I was much much much better than what I would have been like a few weeks ago.

Saturday

B: Bagel (small)- with one side PB and other hummus
S1: A glass of fresh grapefruit juice
S2: Some breadsticks, Tzatziki, baba ganoush, hummus, 1/2 spinach roll, carrots and cucumbers
L: I was at the bday brunch- chicken wrap (2 small), 1/2 sandwich (there was yummy looking pasta but i skipped that) but i had a slice of cheesecake (didn't eat the crust). I also had a glass of wine (but only one glass).
D: A slice of pizza
Dessert: a few pieces of dark chocolate

SUnday

B: few pieces of french toast
S: two bananas, almonds, and 1/2 glass of 2% milk
L: Chicken wrap (about four small), arugula salad, cherries
I was tooo full from lunch so didn't have a snack
D: Goat cheese bruchetta, tempura, chicken soup and lots of beet salad

I was very proud of myself for not having any dessert on Sunday and for only sticking to one glass of wine on Saturday. I am also proud I only ate one slice of pizza on Saturday for dinner.

I did a lot of sit ups and other yoga positions during the weekend. I had to take a couple of days off from running (following the c25k plan). But week six starts today and I am really really looking forward to being back on the track.

I am going to have a GREAT week this week. Gonna eat really really well this week. I want to stay within my calories this week so I can be a lil naughty over the weekend. It is only Monday morning and I am really really looking forward to next weekend.

Have a wonderful week everyone. Will check on everyone's journals at night from home after my run.

I haven't weighed myself yet. But i feel lighter, my stomach has become a little tighter. I will not go near the scales until end May. I am liking the feeling of being a little smaller though. I have NEVER done this before (i always check on the scales- at least once a week). Now I want to kind of test myself to see if I am strong willed enough to stay away from the scales til mid-May.

A few people have also remarked about how I am looking better..that's a huuuge confidence boost.

Weekend looked good Juni!! I copy all my posts before I hit submit because I always lose my posts otherwise - it's so frustrating!
I am also going to have a great week - let's keep each other motivated and I am also looking forward to the weekend!!! Hopefully the healthy week will go by fast! I love it that you are holding off weighing yourself - if I wasn't weighing in at WW I might give that a try - I also feel lighter (well not so much this morning because I didn't stop at one piece of pizza like you!!) but feeling better about ourselves will just keep pushing us forward! Keep it up!!

Great Job on the run Juni!!!!! I have ways to run before I can catch up with you ,,,,,at the moment I can run like 2 min lol . I am gonna aim for at least 5 min by the end of the week. You Rock!!!

Thanks Veronique. I never thought I could run that far and for that long. Have you tried the couch to 5k program. You slowly build strength to run 5k or 30 mins in nine weeks. Im on the sixth week and it is really really geat. You can also get podcasts for them. I love it, coz it makes me feel focused, and the guy who made the podcast kinda is running with you, so you don't really feel all alone. :biggrinjester:

Just left you a small note in your journal. You did SOOOO well with food this weekend. I wish I could be like you. I feel like I just let go over the weekends...

Thanks Lisa. You had a wonderful weekend also.

One of the reasons why I havent weighed myself is because I am really scared of going on the scales. Someone said 'ignorance is bliss' . I think I am practicing that principle. :) I also think the inches melt faster than what the scales will show me. I know it takes me a while before I start dropping weight...maybe when I actually do drop weight, I will be more regular......or not.

Monday night here-- time to update my journal.

B:Watermelon
S1: Honey pops w 2 percent milk and some apricots, banana
S2: leftover bruchetta and a couple of chicken nuggets
L: Leftover beetroot salad
S1: Strawberries, apricots
S: crackers with PB, almonds and banana
D: Fish gravey with rice with spinach
Dessert: a piece of dark chocolate

My goal for this week: really eat within my calorie limit. I think I went a little over. I recently realized that I didn't really stick to my allowed calorie (the last time I was here). I would always go a couple of hundred calories up. I really really wanna stick to my allowed calories this week and see what happens. So I will start counting from Tuesday.

Have a killer week at work and TOM is just around the corner but I am determined to finish strong this week.
