Just a little something yahoo is running....
The following diet myths come up over and over again at my nutrition center. My next two blog entries will help set the record straight. Hope you find this helpful!

If you eat late at night, the food turns straight into fat.

Not true.If your overall calories are appropriate for weight loss, you certainly can eat something after dinner. Late night calories will ultimately get used the next day (and even while you sleep).

However, for the sake of energy, it is always better to eat your calories during the day when your body needs the fuel. Plus, eating consistently throughout the day will stabilize blood sugar levels -- so you’ll feel energized and experience fewer cravings. If you are going to snack after dinner, I suggest choosing something 250 calories or less.



Fresh fruits and vegetables are more nutritious than frozen.

Not necessarily. Frozen can be a great produce option (just avoid varieties with added salt, sugar, and sauce). Frozen foods are picked in the peak of ripeness, then frozen. You can eat them as you need them -- and most of the nutrients are locked in. On the other hand, fresh fruit and vegetables are typically harvested before they ripen, and can have nutrient variability. Also, the longer fresh produce sits around in your fridge, the less nutrients it will contain.

Bottom line: Buy both fresh and frozen and eat as much as you can.



Cravings are your body's way of telling you it needs something.

This has never been proven. You normally crave what you like to eat (or smell or see someone else eating). Also, hormonal changes are sometimes responsible for food cravings. Ice cream and pickles anyone?



Any type of water is always better than soda.

No. There are a few caloric waters with sexy marketing ploys. In fact, some brands have quite a bit of sugar. Always check labels.



Certain foods, like grapefruit, celery, or cabbage soup can burn fat and make you lose weight.

These are anecdotal stories that have no scientific back up. It’s true these foods are low in calories, but they do NOT actually burn fat.
 
Well headed to the doctors today. My blood pressure is doing the crazy dance. I never knew the sun came up so early. It kind of interferes with my vampire night life lol......
 
No it's nothing serious. They are just trying to get my blood pressure just so. The original reading was 180/100. Today it was 150/80 so just with the meds and they weight loss it has gotten much better. No worries, I plan on being around for another week or two anyhow lol. Today went pretty well except didn't eat. I Just haven't been hungry but been crazy thirsty all day.
 
Glad to hear the meds are helping - those are some scary numbers!! I'm on a couple of BP meds as well... got the whole "your weight is effecting your health!!" speech. Glad you plan on being around a while - not sure what I'd not without my cyber dinning buddy ;)

No worries. My blood pressure was always border line then after the last back surgery it got those crazy numbers. Of coarse being on my back for two years and my weight getting way up in the 400's had alot to do with it. Yea I have had the weight loss speech and the blood pressure speech and everything is balancing out. If I can just remember to walk about 3 times a week it will get much better lol.
 
Well today is yuckie. I checked my weight officially and its back to normal but no loss. :( My calories are still way under every day so the only think I can think of the occasional sugar I have been taking in. I'm going to go back to the original diet and drop sugar and starches ( except for wheat bread and brow rice) and drop my calories to the basement. I guess I'm looking for the reset switch lol. If my weight suddenly starts to lose again, It will mean I can have NO sugar without gaining weight. surely I can't be that sensitive to sugar.............

you are doing a great job, and you are very inspirational. Keep up the good work. Maybe you have just reached a platau (how the heck do you spell that, i am awful I know)...but really, don't be too hard on yourself. Cut out some of the sugars, work hard and I'm sure it will work out. Really, you are doing great!

Aw thanks..... well this happened before and it lasted about 2 weeks then all of a sudden I lost 8 pounds all at once. It's just frustrating i guess. I have a weird metabolism and if I'm not working out like a marine in boot camp not much happens. My belt is in the same spot half way around my waste.... still need to get a new belt lol......... I think my body is just fighting the diet and throwing a

lol.. well kick it's butt! which.. is your butt? soo that poses a bit of a conundrum. My weight loss is starting to slow down... don't get me wrong I heart 3lbs dearly but I was just a tad disappointed that it wasn't 6lb like last week. *sigh* I know that's not realistic so.. yeah I'll deal. :D I'm gonna go on my walk now - care to join me? :D
