A Girl in College...

Hello, everyone. :)

My name is Kristi, and like my thread title implies, I am a 20 (soon to be 21 :cheers2:) year old college student trying to lose some weight.

Currently I stand at 5'4" and weigh 145 pounds. My goal is to get down to 125. I dont have any specific timeline or goal date, but I would like to lose at least 5 pounds before August 15. Along with losing the weight, I would like to also gain some lower body strength. Basically I want a toned butt and thighs .:)

I play soccer at my school (division 3, nothing too fancy), and while this keeps me active overall, some practices are mostly standing around while others are full of physical activity. Inconsistency is basically inevitable for me during the fall.

Sooo, I'm going to rely heavily on my diet during soccer. I will have a small meal plan at the cafeteria. 10 meals a week, I believe, so I will be making some of my own meals, but also getting some of my meals from there. The cafeteria and I have had our struggles, but I think that my freshmen and sophomore years have taught me a lot about what and what not to eat.

Drinking could become an issue. Luckily, during season, we only drink once a week (if that), so I should be able to fight that issue off until we're out of season.

So, I think that is it for once I get back to school, but I still have a month until then! Yesterday was really my first day back "on the grind," as my ex would put it. I ate healthily, and I went for a run. The run was quite a struggle as I am pretty out of shape for a college athlete. I ran probably 3 miles with a little walk in the middle somewhere.

I also want to point out that I'm not trying to say I'm fat or anything. I was a member here in the past, and I had a heckler or 2 try to call me out for being one of "those girls," but that is not me at all. I know my limitations. I don't obsess over my weight, and I still maintain healthy eating habits (I don't starve myself). I'm just a girl that started believing in the "freshmen 15" a little too late! haha

Any way, I hope to hear from some of you soon, and I look forward to writing here and reading about everybody else's efforts!! Thanks! :waving:

Oh yes, and I absolutely love John Mayer. :) His music at least.

I have to work tonight, and I'm sure I will probably forget or be too lazy to post how my whole day went, so I'll do a half-day update now!

Today's food...

Breakfast - Bowl of cocoa puffs with 1% milk
Lunch - 3 eggs and about a handful of bbq chicken (so hard to make a meal with no food in this house!!)
Snack - Vanilla yogurt with chocolate chips and low fat granola
Dinner - Haven't had it yet, but I'm planning on getting a side pasta, probably light arrabiata with whole wheat penne and mushrooms and spinach, and a side of grilled asparagus. Sounds yummy!

Also, I think I failed to mention this in my initial post, but I work at the Macaroni Grill, so it can be VERY hard to resist eating a whole pasta entree when the cooks mess something up!

It's raining now, but when it stops I'm going to go for a jog. Not enough time to go to the gym today. That and I put it off and put it off all day because I hate working out there. I find it much harder to run on a treadmill than it is to run outside, and I just feel as if I stare at the time whenever I try to do the elliptical or bikes. Oh well, I guess any exercise is better than no exercise.

On a side note (since I like talking...typing? Whatever). My mom is really sick. Pains in her side and back, headaches, fever, and nausea yesterday. She's at the hospital right now, and I just hope that everything goes well. She's had multiple kidney infections/stones, and I know she absolutely dreads getting another one. :/

The rain is picking up. Bummer.

Alright well, I'm home from what and I'm actually updated my diary! Weird.

Few things to report.

Mom is still deathly ill. She just went up to bed at 9:30 pm when her regular bedtime is around 1! :/ She has a kidney infection and is on medication, but I'm not really sure how long the medicine has to work before she feels a little better. I'm hoping for the best!

Okay so the rain cleared up earlier, and I went on a run. OMG! Talk about HUMID. I was drenched in sweat and could barely move. I probably ran 2.5 miles total. Once again, I had to walk at one point. Yuck. I guess that this is a sign that I should just go to the GYM, where there is no wind, rain, or humidity to fight against me.

Tomorrow will bring a visit to Lifestyle Family Fitness.

Hey thanks for visiting my journal I thought I would return the favor. If you are stating to run you are a yards ahead of me. I smoke and when I run I cant even get a mile in anymore. I am thinking of hitting the gym as well first I need a job though.

I hope your mom gets better. My mom does the same sometimes, but that is because she has low Iron and isnt willing to eat her greens.

Good luck with the weight I will keep an eye on your journal.

Welcome to the forum!

I recently started running myself, but I find that I really prefer running outside then in a gym. But then again, I don't have to deal with humidity, its dry heat here - although I imagine that could be killer!

Hope the illness clears up soon!

101 pounds lost! HOLY COW! Congratulations! And thanks for the welcome! :)

What a gross day! Gloomy, storms, all the more reason for me to be laaazy.

Any whooo, had work this morning, and I brought some honey nut cheerios with about half a sliced up banana. Then....I got McDonalds.

I know, I know, but it's hard because my mom isn't able to buy any groceries and my house is EMPTY. Not that I would be able to make anything any way. The smell makes her sick to her stomach.

So McDonald's seemed easy and...I won't lie...delicious.

This means I need to work even harder at the gym tonight. Oh boy!

Oh my! What a beautiful night this has turned into! Sun is setting outside of my window, and it's quite a scene.

Well, I made it to the gym! I weighed myself right when I got there, and I was at 145 even. I'm a good guesser. 20 pounds to lose! I can do it! Last year, during soccer I lost 10 pounds without even realizing it! Hopefully this becomes a yearly thing! :) Any way, I did a little lower body workout. Nothing too great, as I would like to be able to get out of my bed in the morning. I just did some leg extension thing for your glutes, leg press, and leg curls. 3x10 for the most part. Then I did a sort of HIIT variation on the treadmill aka I ran for 10 minutes, walked for 3 :(, then did the HIIT (sprinting/jogging) for 6, then I walked for another 5 minutes.

Nothing too spectacular, but better than nothing!

For dinner I stopped by Tim Horton's and had a blueberry muffin and an everything bagel with cream cheese. I'm planning on getting some veggies in whenever I'm done with this post.

Mom update: Fever of 102! Looks like a lithotripsy might be in store for some stupid kidney stones. This will be her 4th! :/ She has got to start being healthier. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do for kidney infections, but for her overall health. She's also diabetic, and she got all but get rid of it if she would just be healthier! GRR!

*Sigh* Hopefully, things will just start getting better for her, and this experience serves as a wake-up call, if nothing else.

Happy Wednesday night to all!

Hey! Good job on your good day. 20 lbs isn't that far away so keep pushing. I'm about the same amount away from my goal weight and just starting out on my weight loss journey like you. I hope your mom starts doing better!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your mom and her not doing well. I love Tim Horton's too but just wanted to point out in case you didn't know that a blueberry muffin from there has 330 calories and 11 grams of fat plus tons of sugar and salt added with a bagel and cream cheese brings your dinner close to 800 calories - I'm not sure what else you had that day but you could of had so much more food for that amount of calories. I used to buy a cookie with my tea and then I found out the cookies have more than 200 calories a piece!! Subway might have been a better choice when on the run - just something to think about. Keep it up!!

Thanks guys! It's nice to receive some encouragement!

Chubbygirl, I figured that the muffin wasn't too great for me, but I kind of panicked when I was ordering (I don't go to Tim's often). I'm not a huge apple fan, which surprisingly seemed to be the only healthy option, so I went for the muffin. Bagels (especially everything bagels) are one of my weaknesses, but muffins are something I can avoid. Thanks for the info!

Okaaaay. Big update in store for today.

I went to visit my...well, I'm not sure exactly how describe him, except for formerly-ex-now-kind-of-but-not-official boyfriend at college. haha AND what normally could have ended in disaster was a good and mostly healthy few days. I even lifted and did abs! Now my legs, butt, and abs are sore! I love the feeling.

But get this, I made buffalo chicken dip for the boy and his rommates, and I ate 5 chips with dip. JUST 5! Self-control at its finest imo.

As for today, I haven't been feeling too great. This is kind of dumb, but sometimes I just crave coffee, like this morning, for example. I got a simple iced coffee, smallest cup available aka tall (why is the smallest option called tall? I guess "short" would turn customers away? But wouldn't that maybe ultimately persuade customers to buy a bigger size, therefore spending more money??? Who knows...). ANY WAY, coffee, iced, tall, and it's good while I'm drinking it, but after I'm done it makes my stomach hurt. This is where the dumb part comes in because EVERY time I drink coffee this happens. I always think, "Well, maybe I drank too much or I drank too fast." But maybe, my body just doesn't do well with coffee?

So I've had this somewhat nauseous feeling in the pit of my stomach ALL day long, and it's kept me from having much of an appetite, and all I've eaten today was a pb&j sandwich.

I'm going to try and force feed myself here in a few minutes so I don't pass out while I'm running (Blah, running). I'll let you all know how it goes!

that made me laugh so hard i almost spit water. As for coffee I am the same way I looove coffee how it wakes me so easily. Thankfully I am the one Canadian in the world that doesn't have a Timmy's close by so the visits are incredibly infrequent I should write a book about it.

I feel sick after drinking coffee as well.

Well consider yourself lucky that you don't have to resist the urge of an everything bagel with a nice cup of coffee every day! :)

But honestly, the biggest coffee issues can be found in none other than...my house!! Dunkin Donuts Original Blend. Heaven in my mouth.

Any way, tonight has been good!! I can call myself a vegetarian for one day!!! For dinner I had watermelon, carrots, and squash casserole! Then, I went on a run which was successful in itself because I just thought about this girl that's been trying to move in on my formerly-ex-now-kind-of-but-not-official boyfriend the whole time, and it made me want to run harder. But NOT ONLY did I run well, but I also did a good thing. Good thing of the day: check. I stopped, mid-stride, to help a baby bird back to its tree. I just couldn't watch the poor thing flutter around frantically, and it was headed towards the road!! So I blocked its path, and it hopped back to its tree. We can only hope that it didn't just hop into the road as soon as I started running again.

So now that I feel like a good samaritan and...exerciser?...I can go to bed in peace tonight. :)

Happy Friday night WLF!

LOL, running AND acts of kindness to small animals! How could the formerly-ex-now-kind-of-but-not-official boyfriend ever resist>?!?

I am confused as to how watermelon goes in a casserole though?

Coffee makes me poop. LOL. No, really. I get that feeling in my stomach too. I think it's just the reaction to the caffeine.

I'm in college too. Props to you for taking control at such a hard time in life to do so. With all the food and partying it's hard but all you need is a little dedication and it's possible! Good for you! :)

~ Sarah

jjjay - You're tellin me! I mean, this other girl can't be half the person I am after yesterday, unless she was running along the ocean and managed to save a beached whale or something. GEESH! And the watermelon wasn't in the casserole! Gross! haha I just had it as a side with the casserole. :)

Skkroll - No fiber for me, all I need is a good cup of coffee. Where do you go to school? How long has it taken you to lose all that weight?! We have similar goals!

Hi Kristi! I was looking through the threads and found yours - We're the same height and have the same goal weight (although your starting weight is like 25 lbs lighter than mine, lol). I just wanted to wish you luck on your journey! :)

Hey thanks for stopping by! It's always nice to be able to hear from people with similar goals!

Phew! What a day yesterday was! Woke up at 9! That's so early for me! I liked it though because I got to the gym, did a nice lower body workout, ran a little bit, showered, and got some starbucks (I'm too addicted to iced coffee to let a little stomach pain get in the way) all before I had to work at 1!

At work I got tomato bruschetta for lunch. Not the best I know, but it's better than most of what we have to offer. I also had some chicken marsala for dinner, but not all of it. One piece of chicken (it normally comes with 3), and a little side pasta.

This morning I woke up at 12! I was up last night until about 3 for some reason, so I'm excusing myself just this once. So I skipped breakfast and a had a sandwich with chicken deli slices, pepperjack cheese, and a little bit of light mayo, all on some whole wheat bread. I also had a little side coleslaw that my mom got from City BBQ last night. I love their coleslaw because it's not mayonnaise based, and I think it's vinegar based? Not 100% sure, but it's delicious.

Looks a bit stormy out, but still planning on running around 8 again.

Well, herrooooo good people of WLF!

Today, is Monday, and I'm happy! Why am I happy, you ask? Because I have lost nearly 5 pounds since I began this journal!! 140.6 was what I weighed this morning!

Now, don't let my apparent enthusiasm and "party" smilie fool you. I know that those first few pounds are the easiest to shed, and I know that I have to work even harder now to continue the progression, but still...

Any waaaay, today is very pretty, but hot! Luckily today is a gym day. Oh yeah! I've made up a routine where I go to the gym every other day to do my lower body workout. On non-gym days I just run outside. My favorite!

Yesterday was interesting. It was thunderstorming at the time that I usually run, so I waited until about 8:30 (soon before dark, and I'm not allowed to run when it's dark out...mother's rules), and THEN ran. It rained the whole time, but I did it!

So today I'm just going to tidy up a bit in this disaster that some might call a room, and then roll on over to the gym!

Hope everyone has a good (or as bearable as possible) Monday!!!

Congrats on your first week and 5lbs down! Now for week 2
