LOL! You're too funny!

My only concern is that this isn't billed speciffically as a run/walk.

The 1st race in January simply says you have to be able to complete a 16 minute mile for 13.1 miles. I can do that. But most everyone entered will probably be a runner. I'm going to keep looking for a walking half marathon, but I love Carlsbad, it's a nice course AND you get a medal just for completing it :D Better than a Tshirt imo ;)

That sounds like fun! You'll do great M!:)

WOW! I can just see you completing the marathon with a better time than most of the runners!! LOL :D

That says a lot about your physical fitness! You can walk in the time that most people run!! CRAZY!! Way to go - you are such an inspiration!! ;)

M if they have a problem with it post up a petition here and you'll get a few hundred cyber signatures in the blink of an eye. Running, walking heck a finish is a finish.

Don't let being the only person walking bother you. If my 64 year old Landlady can participate and complete a triathlon while everyone else breezed past her, you can easily do this! And yes, I agree a medal is much better than a t shirt!

Thanks Tammy, I so hear ya on how fast we can gain weight! As for baby steps, hun, that's what I started out doing - when I first began walking, I could walk 1.5 to 2 miles and it would take about 45 minutes! I just kept increasing the distance and bettering the time little by little :)

You are so awesome!!

You are too fellow walker!!

You are truly a motivator M2M.

Thanks Heidi :) I find everyone on this site to be inspirational!

I don't know about that...Ever since I started drinking all this water, the pounds have been FALLING off - I can't wait for the Friday weigh in!!

Thanks Mike - whenever I start having my doubts, I think of your landlady - that's what got me really considering things like this in the first place. You said such great words, that it isn't about 'winning' it's about 'finishing' Justing DOING it! I love that :D

LOL, I'm just picturing you winning this half marathon walking. I can just see the runners as you walk past them ;)

LOL! Now wouldn't THAT be funny! Highly unlikely, but definitely funny :)

M how far is a half marithon and how long do you have to complete it?

Randy, a half marathon is 13.1 miles. The first one I'm looking at says you have to be able to walk a 16 minute mile minimum to complete the race in the time alotted. The other two races say you have to complete the race in just over 13 minutes per mile.

Half marathons that are for walkers too, seem to have a longer time limit to work with. I've had some 13 minute per mile sessions, but it's never been longer then a 5 mile walk. And that's the maximum time alottment, so it means that most everyone will be much faster then that!

I'm not really ready to start running. I'm a good 46 pounds over weight and I'm worried about what running would do to my joints at this point in my life and level of fitness. I'm not going to rule it out entirely yet ;)

Dang M, it's hard to keep up with your diary. So much is going on with you.

- ok, i don't like the buttons. they just clutter up the post. imho
- half-marathon. wow!
- i have a cheap watch (under $10 i think) from walmart. alarm, lap timer. i like it.
- haven't used my pedometer lately (go by time on my watch). today got out the bike tho and rode my normal routes. my friend had an odometer on her bike. we stopped and painted a white dot in the middle of the road at every quarter mile. no, wait, we happened to see a white dot that someone else painted every quarter mile.
- 5 mi in 65 minutes! you are SMOKING HOT!!!!!
- 11.5 mi in 2:45:02. heck yes you should be proud of yourself.
- glad you are enjoying mapmyrun.com (i gave you the link!)

M2M is the best......

I really want to start jogging again but at this point it's way too much weight on my knees. I really want to get into some walking but it's not much fun on your own.

Patty, I just posted in your diary about the vandals in your neighborhood! It's a good thing there isn't a neighborhood watch program ;) I think it's a great idea to have those dots there!

Randy, you wouldn't be alone out there walking - you'd have all of us floating around in your head encouraging you on!!

well walking is easy out here, plenty of room to go. I could always walk to town and back thats about 10 miles but I'll start baby steps lol. They just built us a new stadium and track but they keep it locked up till they get all the equipment out of there. Walking around in circles is easy to keep up with the quarter miles but think Id like it much better out in the open.

Oh, I love walking out side and not on a track!
And baby steps sounds like a great idea - I wouldn't want to start out going for the 10 miles!

my walking distance should be up there after pushing a mower a few hours at a time. what I'm thinking is start out walking till I start to get tired and head back then check the distance with the odometer on the truck to see the distance and work from there.

That sounds like a great way to start Randy! You're right, all that lawn mower pushing definitely gives you a good foundation. Make sure you take water with you and STRETCH those leg muscles before you go!

(Oh, and leaving the wine at home is a good idea too!) ;)
