My daughter just came out today and said "Mom, since you missed your walk this morning, I have some excercises planned for you. I have put off watching TV or playing in my room to do this for you, but I think you're worth it."

She then proceeded to put me through the rigors of her swim team excercisses. Crunches, push ups, hopping-up-down-make-you-feel-like-an-idiot type excercises, stretches, you name it.

She was so cute!

Oh but kids know best. She is awesome to be helping her mom with alternatives. Good for her. She rocks. :D

Wow, look at little M2M keeping Mommy in line. That's cool.

Don't you find that as your endurance grows you start to naturally walk faster and work harder? That way you could still walk for the same length of time but cover more ground.

I don't think you should skip the walks. There are ways to increase difficu;ty without taking more time. How about ankle weights, or adding more hills, or maybe there's a park trail with lots of stairs... If the walk is secluded enough you could use wrist weights and do some overhead arm stuff, but others might think you're trying to take flight if they see you.

Walking is like any exercise so you'll have to make it harder to get results, but you'll get bored if you don't anyway, right? So come on! If your body creates a new 'norm' than do it! It means you are healthier and stronger and need to be more creative about how you challenge yourself.

Kids come out with the oddest things on ocassion. I remember watching my little cousin sitting on my aunts knee and she said "mum, can you pick my nose for me?" Of course her mum replied with "No I will not" and the wee one sort of looked up and said...

"Why? Do you not love me?"

It's nice to see that your family knows how important it is to you to keep up your workout routine. What a great daughter...you must be proud. :)

LOL, it sounds like you've got an awesome daughter and I know where she got her desire to be so supportive to other people on their diets comes from too.

That is sooooo lovely M2M. I bet you got a lump in your throat :) You sound like you are doing great, and keep up the jumping-up-and-down-so-you-feel-like-an-idiot!! :D

Good Morning everyone!

Well, I walked today (5.1 miles), it felt so good to be out there again that I think an occasional break might be a good thing. It didn't feel like a chore or something I was dreading.

I finished yesterday with 1135 calories or there abouts - I snacked a lot on a bag of carrots/cucumbers/cherry tomatoes, so I didn't know how many calories to add in, so I just figured I had about 100 calories or so from that.

I'm feeling like I'm back to normal and my weight is down, I must have lost fat weight during the camping trip because now that the water weight is gone and TOM has left the country, I'm down more then I thought I would be for this week. I was at 215.8 when I came home from my walk.

Meg really was so sweet about the excercising yesterday. Her motivation is that when I get to my goal, she and I are going on a shopping spree and she gets to help me pick out clothes. She has been wanting to do this for so long, but at my size, finding clothes that I *like* let alone that would fit me was never an easy CHORE...so I know she doesn't want me to get thin...those women aren't "cuddlable" she says, but she does hope I'm thin enough to go clothes shopping anywhere and be able to find CUTE clothes ;)

SillyG - you're right, there are definitely ways to vary the routine for walking and building endurance, speed, etc is a big boost! I know I'm not ready for ankle or hand weights, but that would help too!

Crunchie, your little cousin is SO cute! Doesn't it just stand to reason that if a mom loves you she would just DO that?!

Kaitie & Cannon, yes, meg is truly an amazing little girl. She has a senstivity that I have never seen in another child (CERTAINLY not from me as a kid!!). She goes in to homes for the aged and sick and can talk with the alzheimer patients, stroke the faces of bed ridden patients etc. Her sensitivity also has it's negative points - she's VERY emotional, doesn't understand the inconsistancy of other kids and doesn't handle typical kid conflicts very well so it's a double edged sword.

And Mrs. B - I hear ya, I'll definitely keep up the jumping-up-and-down-so-you-feel-like-an-idiot routine - it's too fun not to ;)

Of course, I better keep losing weight if I plan on needing anyone to carry me to a guest bedroom!

Now THAT sounds really sexy!!!!!

Five miles???? WOW!!!! And down to 215? Double WOW!!!! You're kicking some serious butt here!!! So happy for you!

LOL! Oh man, I guess in that context it WOULD sound sexy! I was invisioning my 5 girl friends staring down at my comatose body wondering how in the hell they were going to drag me into one of *their* spare bedrooms! LOL!

As for the weight, I was pretty stunned to see that number on my scale - I don't believe any number if it's my early morning, after I walk number - when it becomes the number at bed time, well then, that's different ;) Either way, one of my mini goals was to hit 210 by 23 August (a challenge made by twinny awhile ago). I'm still shooting for it. That's the date of my wine club party at my house.

I'm not sure I would pick someone's nose for them no matter how much I loved them! Someone on my football forum posted a photo of our manager picking his nose at the recent game. I reckon he made a better job of picking that than he did picking the first team!

Well, there are some things a mom does for their kidlets when they are too young to do it themselves, but when they get to the point of asking, then they should really be self sufficient at that point ;)

As for your manager - ewww! To let himself get caught in a picture. LOL!
Ummm...he needs a hanky ;)

ooh. good luck with the challenge... and oooh. a wine party. how very posh indeed!

Good Morning everyone :D

I have decided to walk every other day for the time being - I have some really ugly bruises & what might be blood & water blisters on the end of my 2nd toes. They don't hurt a lot, but I thought they were originally caused by stubbing my toes while camping (I did it at least 5 times that I remember), however, when I got my pedicure yesterday, my technician told me it's on both feet which makes me suspect my shoes or walking. I need to figure it out - but my dh said it looked more like dead tissue.

That got me freaked out ;)

I finished yesterday with 1435 calories.

C - thanks for the good luck with the challenge, I didn't think I could really do it when it was first mentioned, but now, with only 5.5 pounds to go, I'm pretty happy!

As for the wine club, well, we've been in it for 4 years, and I go back and forth between wanting to quit and wanting to keep going. I always dread going, wish it wasn't that time of the month again, etc., but then I go, have a great time, come home thinking, 'what was I thinking, I really enjoy these people', so it's an on again, off again feeling ;)

The problem this time is I haven't come up with a "theme" and will be hosting in 3 weeks. I need to get my act together soon!

You are doing awesome M2M. Keep up the great work. How are your toes???? Maybe getting new walking runners would work? I love love love Dr. Sholls. He makes great runners. :D Check them out if you can find them there. I think that Wal-mart has them. They are odor control too. Helps fight against fungus.

Woo Hoo!
Hey Denise, I'm so glad to see you've joined the WL! It was great seeing you last night and chatting you through the log on process here.

Remember, weight loss is one pound at a time, and YOU are in control :D
I can't wait for you to start on your diary!

BTW, Everyone, meet Denise, Denise, everyone who pops into my diary!
(there, my hosting resonsibilities are done) ;)

See you at swimming!

m2m: Sorry to hear about the toes and the stubbing. That has nothing to do with the drinky drinks you had while camping now does it? Glad to hear about the walking every other day! Super!

OK - I'm up early waiting to walk - and it's raining. Weren't we just dying from the heat?

Anyway, I have a couple of hours yet to find a rain slicker ;)

I walked with Denise yesterday for 2.3 miles while her son and Meg were at swim practice, which is good since I didn't plan on walking yesterday and I ended my day with 1085 calories.

Jenn, you may have a very good point there with those dinky drinks & camping :D Although, I did stumble over my feet 3 times at the Mission on Thursday and I know I wasn't drinking there ;) Someone joked with me that the reason I was tripping was because they didn't used to build those places to code! I did end up throwing those sandals away.

Jodee, I might definitely have to look at getting new walking shoes, in the past month I've put over 100 miles on these shoes and they weren't that great to begin with, but they were comfortable.
