Have you ever heard that to walk/jog/run a mile takes 100 calories?

The idea is if you jog or run it, yes you may be working harder and burning more calories per minute, but it takes you less time to complete the mile. This number certainly makes walking more palatable than when you hear it's only 4-5 cal/min. Of course it varies by your weight and fitness level too I'm sure. I like to think the less fit I am, the more calories I burn working harder to walk as fast as a "fitter" person.

So if you walk 4mph, you'd burn 6.67 cal/min x 15 minutes = 100 cal/mi
-and- jog 5mph, you'd burn 8.33 cal/min x 12 minutes = 100 cal/mi
-and- run 6mph, you'd burn 10 cal/min x 10 minutes = 100 cal/mi

Hi M,

Where did you get your range from when posting your desired calories, etc. for the day? I like the hi/lo part.

Hi Patty,
I'm out the door, but wanted to answer this...
It's from my sparkpeople account. It gives you the range and I try to meet it. I do better some days then others ;) I just copy & paste the daily totals.

Hi, I just wanted to say it sound slike you are doing such a great job! Keep it up!! I don't have as much to lose, but it sure takes forever for me to lose it. You are an inspiration to all of us!

Hi Mechelle,
I think the less you have to lose, the harder it is! You're doing great, and we'll BOTH lose these pounds!!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi, and to tell you that I think your doing great and you are a true insperation to me :) Have a great weekend!

Thanks Ashley :) You have a good weekend too!

Well M as I got up from the couch to work out 10 seconds looking for the tv remote I was wondering how your training is going?

OMG Randy - Every where I turn, your posts crack me up!

As for my work out...I'm a little nervous about this weekend. Megan has a swim meet both Saturday & Sunday and Saturday afternoon/early evening she has a birthday party, so I'm trying to figure out when best to take my walks.

If I leave by 5:15 am tomorrow, I can be back by 6:15, shower and out the door before 7:00...but my endurance walk is on Sunday and there's NO way I'm getting up at 3:15 ;) I'm due to walk 12.5 miles so I need 3 hours to get it done...and I can't go in the morning on Monday, so I'll probably have to leave around 3:00-3:30 Sunday afternoon.

I hope the weather is cool then...

your gonna walk 12 miles???? wow, thats incredible!

Anyways, your really doing great hun! Keep it up!

that is a huge walk.... have you done the distance and timed yourself?
