What does a DI Appraiser do?
That looks like a fantastic place to be though.

Destination Imagination is truly an AMAZING program for kids.

It's Nationwide, and mostly groups from schools (there are some homeschool groups) program where kids break into teams and decide on one of five "challenges"

They spend from October to February trying to meet the specifics of their team challenge as well as working on Instant Challenge skills to come up with a solve for their challenge.

Then they go to Regional Finals (As an Appraiser, I'm going to "judge" for lack of a better term - what these kids have spent the last 4-5 months creating.)

The process is FABULOUS in that these kids must sign an Independence Declaration - where they ensure that there has been NO outside advise/instruction/input and that all parts of their Challenge has come from the team.

What they come up with is mind boggling.

Two years ago, we had a team who had to solve a locomotion challenge - create some sort of mechanical device that would go around an indoor gymnasium (remember, the focus is on CREATIVITY - so you're looking for off the wall answers to the challenges), our boys created Hover Crafts, that actually worked and were able to give the Appraisers Rides.

What these kids are able to come up with is like McGyver (US TV show), but with lots of duct tape ;)

Each aspect of their project has a total of a certain amount of points - an appraiser must determine how closely they were able to meet the requirements of the challenge.

I was a Team Manager last year - where I worked with 7 boys for 5 months as they prepared their challenge.

And it is a challenge. Get 7 kids to agree on ANYTHING! Get 7 boys to STOP moving for 22 seconds ;) AND not be able to contribute ANYthing specifically to their challenge.

My job was to try and keep them focused, help them to get what they need, and pretty much - to simply herd cats.

That being said - DI is absolutely worth being involved in :D

Just saying HI & glanced at your ticker..... seems we might have to be kicking you out of the 180s Club very soon!

I don't know - I've been sitting at 180-182 for two/three weeks now.
I started raising my calories about 3 weeks ago - and I immediately gained 2 pounds - each week I've been adding more calories (and the weight has been staying the same). I plan on continuing to up my calories until I start seeing a steady weight gain - then, slowly, I'll start dropping my calories again.

I need to see where my "maintenance" calories are - there is NO way I should have gained weight on 1300 calories a day - but I did. That tells me I had been eating too few calories for too long. I don't want 1000-1100 calories to be my maintenance.

So I have no plans on losing any weight for the next 4 weeks or so :( As hard as this is for me to be sitting at the same number, not lose weight AND upping my calories - I know it's important to my body in the long run.

So I'm eating fairly clean, I'm up to about 1450 a day and like I said, maintaining 180-182

i know how u feel-had the same thing happen 2 me, have u tried changing up your workout instead of increasin calories- u may want to speak to a trainer at the gym or just step into an interval cardio program that will "wake your metabolism up".

p.s.--how much excersize are ya gettin in a week?/what kind do you do?

p.s.s.--did u weigh in at the same time of day with the same amount of food/liquids in your system? I know for a fact that drinkin 1-2 cups water before you jump on the scale makes a big difference, same with eating meals!

and finally.... it takes so much strength to not give up and to back it off to find out what your body needs...I am very impressed with your motivation M2M! thinking about your long term weight loss and health is a great way to get through this plateau!

I'm afraid of that too. I don't really count calories because I find fitday and sparkpeople too hard to use. I always look at the labels on packaged foods and stuff, of course. I estimate that I eat about 1400-1500 cals a day, but I can't be sure. I'm afraid of training my body to rest at a cal intake that is too low. Anyway, you've lost so much weight already that getting stuck at 180-182 for a few weeks shouldn't be too much of a set-back. ;) Keep up the amazing work!

What a lot of people forget when it comes to weight loss is remembering that theres more to the equation than "eat less, move more" (though that is basically true). Your thyroid loves to make your body adjust to what you are doing- its a survival mechanism. So, if you stay at one calorie level, you body is like "Ok, if this is all we get, then lets figure out how to make this work with this little food" Stravation mode type stuff.

So, the cure- a good, fatty cheat day or meal- depending on how bad the slump. So, go an eat some ice cream or soemthing- shocking your thyroid like that kind of resets it.

Also, everyone who is at like 1300, 1400 etcetera low calories...just something to think about, but coma patients get 1900 cals in an IV when they aren't even moving, or even breathing for themselves. Thats just for them to maintain basic organ function. So, long term, being below that 1900 calorie mark, its inevitable that eventually you will see some starvation mode stuff go on.

Well, I sat at the low end of my calorie range for a long time. Too long really. So I'm currently fixing that.

As for my exercising - I'm not changing that while I'm up'ing the calories - diet is what, 80% of weight loss, and I want to get my food settled before making any other changes.

Currently, this is what I'm doing:
3 days a week - Steady State Cardio - straight walking 45-60 minutes
3 days a week - Interval Jog/walk with a 2:1 ratio
3-4 days a week - weight bearing/resistance SheSly Park Bench exercises

I want all things to be the same as I'm getting the calories up so that my maintenance level is higher then it currently is.

moving your calories up slowly shouldn't hurt you at all :D

how many miles did you walk today?

have you ever tallied up your grand total of miles walked? have you walked across the country yet?

I generally walk 5 miles on steady state cardio days, and 3-3.5 miles when I jog/run.

Today, I did 3.5 miles in 36 minutes (I had to get back early to meet with the manager of a landscaping company because the tree trimmer cut down a tree taking out a huge swath of my bushes with it)

I used to keep track, but have long since stopped - I do know that I bought my pedometer the same day I bought my last pair of shoes and the accumulative total on the pedometer is about 300 miles.

But I haven't been walking the long 13 mile distances lately. During the summer I was averaging around 40 miles a week - now I'm getting about 24.

good job walking. i am starting to walk as much as i can. i hope i can end up doing 40 miles weekly. Thats awesome! i realized yesterday when i took the first walk that it is calming, stress-relieving, peaceful, etc. It makes me feel good, and be in a better mood.

It usually makes me feel like that too... Except when there are sub-zero temperatures and the sidewalks haven't been plowed in three days!
