A Day In The Life of m2m :)

Good Morning :)

I just got back from my walk and it was gorgeous - the sun rise was spectacular, unfortunately, it's due to a fire raging far east of us, but it truly was beautiful!

I put in 3.5 miles this morning and am ready to take on the day!

Crunchie, our water gets cold, but no where near as cold as yours! EEK! My daughter wears a spring wet suit and never feels the cold - but I sure do ;)

Cannon, thanks for the confirmation, and you're right, some calories are really better then others ;)

Since I planned the entire days' worth of calories into one bag, and knew that those were my option for the day, I made them count. Mango salad from Trader Joe's, lean pastrami with peppercinis, cottage cheese and pearl tomatoes, 1 square of delicious dark chocolate, mandarin oranges & a nutrition shake. I felt satisfied all day :) Two cheeseburgers couldn't have done that for me. I would have wanted a shake and two more meals ;)

You guys have a great day and I'll check in tonight!

Okay, that's it. I'm hitchhiking to your house. ;)

Hey M2M, I can feel the positive vibes coming off you! You sound like you had a great time at the beach, and you sound positively radiant!! Keep up the fantastic work :)

Hi Everyone :)

I had a really good day - I'm up to 860 calories, but the night's still young and my family still isn't home ;)

It is SO nice to have computer time, where no one is TALKING to me! In the morning, after my walk, I want a little time to post here and Bob is yapping away! Now it's nice and quiet :D

Twinny, I do love where I live - we're nestled up next to a National Forest, and have an arroyo running behind us. It's a natural corridor for wild life, and I can still get to the beach in less then 30 minutes. When we first moved out here in 1991, there was less then 10K people, and for Southern CA, that's almost unheard of. There was one grocery store, one gas station, and two stop lights. It's now an incorporated city of 40K people - it's not like it was, but we have more services now. You can hitch hike here any time!

Mrs. B, I did have a great time at the beach. Megan boogie boarded non stop for over 5 hours, and never had a single complaint, mishap or cry. Having a very sensitive child has made me relish days like yesterday ;) And I do feel good! I am so happy that I found this site, that I've met all you guys. You all have given me so much inspiration and motivation! I've said it before, but just KNOWING that this weight is and will continue to come off is the most liberating and empowering thing I've done. I've always been a control freak in so many areas of my life, that to feel like I've taking control of ME is absolutely exciting!

Pineola, thanks for checking in! I don't have too many plans for the weekend yet - Bob will be working, I go grocery shopping for my MIL and my family, but aside from that, nothing exciting is planned - which, in all reality, that is a GOOD thing right now. It's so much easier planning my excercise/nutrition when I'm at home.

Oh, and I'm going to vacuum. That in and of itself shouldn't be all that exciting, but I finally got my vacuum cleaner FIXED - so it is a good thing ;)

live, by request

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Hey M2M,

It sounds like you had such a great day!

I totally know what you mean by *computer time*. I sneak on whenever I can LOL :) I agree with it being easier to plan exercise and nutrition when you're at home. That is what I'm doing this summer to get a handle on it before I start back at school.

Keep up the great belly bustin' !

I just got back from my walk - I only put in 2.5 miles because Bob has to leave early this morning. Hopefully, I will get another walk in tonight to make up for it.

Yesterday's calories were 1040, but that's not counting the teaspoon of Cookies "N Cream Ice Cream I ate out of the carton...I decided not to bother counting those calories - so maybe I had 1100 total.

I have errands and running around to do later today, but for now, I'm going to hit the scale & shower.

Hopefully, my next post will be moving my ticker!

Sounds like a great place to live M2M. Chicago is amazing for 7 months of the year and then it's gray and nasty. Way to go on the calories. A teaspoon of ice cream doesn't count for calories as everybody knows its medicine.

Oh Cannon! I LOVE your way of thinking! Yes, it did feel like medicine at only a teaspoon - I told myself when I opened the carton I was only going to dip the spoon in ONCE - well, when that teaspoon of ice cream dropped on the ground and the dog ate it, I decided to dip it in twice ;) One for the dog - one for me!

And the good news is...
3 POUNDS GONE THIS WEEK!! Woo Hoo!
33 Pounds gone forever!
69 More to go!

When I first started and saw that I had over 100 pounds to lose, I thought, "No Way, I just can't do that"

I LOVE being wrong sometimes!!

Part of my OCD tendencies - is to look too closely at details...
Twinny, this post is for you ;) (and for my own records down the road)...

I wanted to see how the math actually adds up for the week - here's what I have:

Calories for week of 7/8-7/14
7/8 1441
7/9 1090
7/10 1410
7/11 2000~
7/12 852
7/13 1043
7/14 1040

Total of 8,876 Calories

Based on my weight, I need 2,724 calories to maintain, or a total of 19,089 per week.

If I deduct my actual consumed calories I get a deficit of 10,213 unused (or lost) calories. At 3,500 calories per pound, that is a net loss of 2.918 pounds lost.

The math is working.

Until I started looking at my walking record...
7/8 2.5 miles
7/9 5.8 miles
7/10 3.3 miles
7/11 3.1 miles
7/12 3.5 miles
7/13 3.3 miles
7/14 3.5 miles

For a grand total of 25 Miles Walked This Week

I lost 3 pounds this week. If I lost 2.918 pounds for just reducing my calorie consumption, 25 miles netted me an extra .082 of a pound lost. LOL!

I'm either not counting ALL my calories, or the math I'm using to calculate my daily calories needed to maintain weight (w*12lbs) is wrong.

I really, really, really don't want to think that 25 miles only lost me .082 ;)

I'm certainly not going to quit walking, I love it, but I would expect to lose an extra 1.07 pounds for the effort. (150 calories lost per mile = 3750/3500).

Oh I do the same thing!!! I crunch the numbers and hate it when they don't add up the way I think they should.

I will say that sometimes I wonder if the walking does any good, but over the weeks and months it does add up. And I do love getting it done first thing in the morning. It really makes you feel good all day, doesn't it? Like you are starting your day off on the right foot? Hey, that's kind of a pun, isn't it? :p

Anyway, we are close to the same age and I look forward to hearing about your continued progress.

I wouldn't worry M2M, there could be any number of reasons why it doesn't add up (I love excuses ;) ) It could be water, it could be extra muscle being built up (weighs twice what fat does), you could have lost 3.8 lbs this week (not sure how accurate your scales weigh) .... it could be any or all of these.

Bottom line, 3 lbs in fan-blooming-tastical!!!! Keep up the top work ...

PS - ONE small spoon of cookies and cream ice cream ..... did your hand fall off, because thats the only way I wouldn't have had another spoonful!! :D

Well said, Mrs Bear! :D

M2M, thanks for stoppin' by my place :D I find I don't get all the way around all the time and some people tend to get lost in my shuffle  Sorry

You're doing great! :D Keep it up :D Those numbers will all come together for ya soon, I'm sure of it :D Hope you're having a great weekend! :D

I think that it is pretty easy to be off. For instance, if your calorie intake record was off by just 20%, that's a difference of 0.5 pounds. If your maintenance estimate is off by just 10%, that is another 0.55 pounds. That is a fairly small variation, which would result in more than a pound of difference in your expected weight loss.

Now, if your calorie count was dead on accurate, but your maintenance estimate was off 20%, you would owe 1.56 pounds of loss to your walking!

Bottom line is, keep up the good work! Your maintenance calories are just an estimate based on averages, not a concrete number based on your body right now. Be sure, your walking was worth MUCH more than your calculations would lead you to believe. :D

Patty,
Thanks for stopping by my diary, and yes! I do love starting my day out with walking. It keeps me pumped and motivated for the whole day!

Mrs. B - you could be right about a fat to muscle displacement! And as for the teaspoon of ice cream, it didn't really feel like control, it just felt like all I wanted. I was so glad it was in there - normally, my "eat-it-all-in-one-sitting husband would have had it devoured 2 weeks ago if he knew it was there!

And WTG - Look at all those binge free days! Awesome :D

BizeB - not to worry about making the rounds or not, we do catch up with each other all over this forum! It's tough getting to a lot of diaries!

And Twin, I knew I could count on you to show me the possible errors of my math ;) You're rigiht, the calorie maintenance number is an average.

I did find looking at the numbers interesting!

Good God twin reading all that near made my head explode!

Looks like you're still doing great though M2M I was reading some of your entries in other diaries too. Well done for not giving into the ice cream in the freezer!;)

Hey M2M - great job on the walking - tackling it every day - 25 miles gained you lots - you did something every day. Now that's what I need to do! Thanks for the inspiration after reading through your thread.

M2M, like others have said I totally believe it's the muscle you are building up in your legs. And aren't leg muscles the largest muscle groups in our body?

Thirty three pounds is awesome!!!! You've lost 32% of your total goal. You are more than a third of the way there!!!!! You'll be at that halfway point before you know it.

Oh, and I will be out all day on a shopping trip and I totally want to take with me your Beach Bag 'O' Food. I'll be by your place to pick one up in about....oh...shall we say fifteen minutes? LOL!!
