A dairy from India

hey juni,
I am from India...hence I can totally relate to ur food habits.

I am also doing yoga but just 5-10 mins early in da morning..just pranayams...I wanna learn more..umm lets see..
But I heard its kinda effective in da long run, its a slow process but effective! I ve seen ppl who have benefited from yoga. Breathing excercises r very important cos it keeps da mind cool n focused:)

good luck babez!

Hello hello everyone...

So I am back from the conference. When I wrote that I was away on an all-day conference, I didn't realise that I was making a mistake. I got a phone call from the office and they told me that we are actually staying over that night. :willy_nilly:

Anyway, So I was at the conference ALL day on Thursday- then we partied all night (so there was a lot of vodka and rum involved). After 12am, I just stopped counting. We were dancing and making fools of ourselves till the wee hours of the morning. I didn't realise it was 4am when I went to bed.

It was fun. A very good friend (and a colleague), got a lot of stuff done, got time to catch up (he came from the States), and the conference was really productive. I cam back to the city happy.

Can't say the same thing about my food choices. Besides drinking copious amounts of alcohol I was also eating quite unhealthy.

Lunch comprised of boiled veggies with garlic and butter, grilled chicken (i was craving so much protein that I had two biiiig pieces), some rice. There was also fries. I avoided looking at them in the beggining, but I caved in and had a handful later. Also had dessert (small)

Dinner was bbq chicken, shrimp salad, veggies and a piece of apple pie.

Had appetizers before the dinner that was unhealthy and fried.

I made better choice in the morning for b'fast though.

Had some patties, a toast, an egg and some coffee.

Anything sweet I ate was tooo sweet for me yesterday. Eve the pineapple juice this morning (not fresh) was so darn sweet. Could I be getting better about my sweet cravings?

I ate some veggies in the afternoon, some icecream and then we drove back.

Just had dinner- legumes, sprouts soup and lots of yogurt (yum!)

Back to eating healthy from tomorrow (I have played these last few days, now I have to really restrict myself over the weekend).

Very very glad its' Friday. How's everyone??

Hello hello....where in India are you from? Am going over to check your diary out. I am American, but have lived here for many years, so India is truly my second home. Good to have someone else from India here.

It's Thursdayyy!!! How'd your dance class go?

Hasn't happed yet. Hopefully from Sunday. So excited about it.

I have been so bad about food, nightrunner. But you know I think I have figured out this whole sugar craving thing. I think the less sugar you have, the less you crave. And when you have sugary things after not having em for a while, it tastes sooo sweet that you don't want it anymore. That's what I have come to realize.

Yep, will try to make something this weekend. Lets see what happens...

How are things with you?

Hey Juni
Good luck at the conference. I always have trouble at that kind of thing.

Did your dance teacher start classes again yet? What kind of dance is it? I'm thinking of doing some dance lessons but I'm not sure what kind.

I used to love dancing when i was little.

The conference was goooood, but i was baaaaaad with food. Oh well. It was just a couple of days, so no cheat days for me over the weekend. It is my weigh in tomorrow, and i am pretty sure I must have gained back some lbs. Keeping my fingers crossed that I haven't.

I am learning (or trying to) Indian classical dance called Katthak. It is quite graceful and have heard that it is quite helluva workout.

How are things with you. Will pop over to your dairy after this.

You know Juni, i think you may be on to something. If i go for a while without eating anything sweet then im okay. but if im really hungry and start by eating something sweet then thats it for me. its heaven in my mouth :p Its like my tongue sensors have come to life and want more and more sugar.
Its great to hear that you are finding some foods too sweet though-it must feel great!

I stopped by the store on my way home today to pick up yogurt as a starter so i can make it tonight, but i forget to buy a thermometer...i want to do this rightso im going to wait til tom. We all love yogurt at home so im totally psyched to make this! *happy dance*

Sounds like you had a good time at the conference :) And its good to hear you got to have some catch up time with you friend. You deserve a break, you'vebeen working too hard. And you are totally right about one day not being a big deal in the grand scheme of things-so right back at you about your eating during the conference :)-dont forget you got some serious dancing in there too...thats a good chunck of calories burned. Anyway thanks for your supportive words they're a real comfort:)

Happy cooking-ooh and dancing!! :)

Ok, I am up more than 5lbs- hopefully it is all water weight. Even if its not, I am not too worried. I weigh myself once a week, and I have only seen the scales drop in the last month. I am just gonna write this off as water weight, but continue with healthy eating and dancing regime. It'll be better next week.

It definitely water weight!! You can't lose 5 pounds healthily in a week so you can't gain it either! There was probably a lot of salt in the food at the conference, give it a couple days, drink lots of water and weight again :) We all have those days!

Good luck with you dance! I hope it's fun for you :D

And I agree with nightrunner, in the grand scheme of things one day isn't the end of the world :D

Ate well today...so happy.

B'fast- muesli and yogurt

Snack- cucumbers, apples

Lunch- boiled bulgar wheat with veggies and pickled mangoes

Dinner- Mixed veggies cooked in yogurt (I used yogurt to cook the veggies instead of oil. I looooved it, but then I love yogurt so....).

Will probably need to snack later, but I have almonds and no unhealthy stuff lying around. (for once, eh?)

Trying to NOT eat sugar at all this week. I have a really stressful week ahead. yes, AGAIN. Going to work to finish a few things tomorrow. Will make sure I cook, pack and take lunch and snack tomorrow.

oh and I am FINALLY starting c25k from tomorrow morning. Dance classes start only on Tuesday so i thought I'd alternate. I was getting really frustrated with my yoga teacher as he refused to do yoga inside and we would not have classes whenever it rained (which was every day last week). I don't like depending on someone else, so screw yoga, I am just gonna be my own boss and run run run.

Don't get me wrong, I loooove yoga, so hopefully whenever I feel like i need to stretch, I will go back to yoga but for now I am a little frustrated with it. Ok now I will stop ranting.

GREAT ATTITUDE!!!! and you had ate really well today too!! :hurray: Sorry to hear about your yoga instructor but good for you for finding an alternative way to get a workout in! And rant all you like! im here to listen-besides It feels good!!

I'm starting c25k too!! lol although i need to get my but in gear b/c it looks like its going to start raining soon

Thank you for your sweet note, antyoch. Not going near the scales for a while now (at least another week), we'll definitely know. I have read about deceiving scales and even more deceiving human body. :) The important thing is, I feel great.

Btw, Im starting (FINALLY!) C25k program. Reading about how much you like running has totally motivated me to run. I have fallen off the wagon before, so gonna need some support to get through the nine weeks. Totally looking forward to it.

So far your theory is right on the money!! I've upped my protein intake (relatively speaking) and i dont feel like eating at all. Normally around this time id be trying to sleep to keep from eating or eyeing something with too much sugar-now i can enjoy my weekend and stay up :hurray:

I have read about deceiving scales and even more deceiving human body. The important thing is, I feel great.

You are so right! the ulitmate goal is to have a healthy lifestyle. As long as we maintain that, then the weight will eventually melt away. You're doing a great job juni!! Keep that positive attitude!:hurray:

Tell us how you go with the c25k thingy, I'm thinking of jumping on the wagon and doing it too.

Veges and yoghurt sounds yummy, do you add any spices?

I love your attitude Juni! You're optimistic, it makes me smile :D

I'm just getting ready to go to the gym and everyone's words are getting my motivation up :p lol! Good luck with c25k! You can do it this time :D You've got us to keep you motivated! and hey, it only takes about 20-25 minutes :D you can do it!! Keep us updated :D

The yogurt and veggies sounds yummy :)

Have a good day :D

Juni, Congrats! you lost 6.9lb and starting to run... I will be doing that as well after ramadan..... I lost alot of weight with running before, so hopefully I get to do it again....

Juniii! I made the yogurt!!! I love store bought yogurt, but after having the homemade stuff, i dont think ill be able to go back! It tastes sooooo good!! It turned out less thick than the store bought kind but damn delicious! Im so going to be making this ALL the time-and its so much cheaper to make it at home too! huge rip off at the stores eh! its like what the hell!?

So whats going on on your end, you've been quiet-i miss you! i know your days are super busy but i hope all is well

hi everyone,

haven't been on here for a few days--internet at home was screwed and i don't check the forum at work. i have been MIA for a few days but I have updates:

1) i started my dance class today and it was.......AMAZING. i am just doing the basics right now, but i love it and my teacher is really great and we dance INSIDE so no problem with the rain. also, i am getting private lessons, which means i will be regular coz the teacher comes to the school just for me in the mornings and i would HATE to keep him waiting or not show up. so yay yay yay!!

2) i haven't yet started C25k. buuuuuuu:( i know, i totally suck. my ipod died on me a couple of days back, and i have been kinda lost. i tried to move the podcasts to my phone (which has the external memory), but they are mp4 files that do not play with mp3 players. ai ai ai...so that really sucked. i am trying to find c25k podcasts on mp3 right now. i am really sad about my ipod. i got that when i graduated and decided to move away from the US. i was totally broke when i bought it (fresh out of college, hadn't started working, too proud to ask parents to buy one for me). i HAVE to have music around me (its always on- in my room, in the car, at work, when i am writing), and i download A LOT of podcasts and listen to them on my way to work, so that has made me really sad.

3) i have been good re: food. i went out to have dinner with collegues (had a glass of good white wine), a slice of pizza and some nachos. i am not going to have a free day this week.....

I have missed you all!!
