A brand new start

All that cleaning and a two mile walk?? Wow, way to go scrappy!! Yea, I agree, rubbermaid containers should be handed out at the hospital as part of your new mom pkg.!!

I just got back from an evening scrapbooking at Kim's house. Always fun. I got three pages finished (Downtown Disney, Chuck E Cheese, and a Day a the Beach). I love scrapbooking. I just love looking through my pages and reliving the memories. The boys love looking through their pictures, too.

This morning we had friends from Ontario come to visit for a few hours. DH was out doing hospital calls so I took them over to the church and gave them the "official tour." They were impressed with all that the church has to offer, just as we were when we first came. Their church is still so small that it was a treat for them to see the whole "candy store of ministry" that is across the street. Then they took us out to lunch- McDonald's- the kids loved it. DH was home when they brought us back from lunch, so at least he got to see them.

It was a treat to see them (last time we saw them was for a wedding the end of May). And they said the kindest things about my mothering. "You seem like such a good mom." "You must have looked forward to being a mother." "The boys are very well behaved." (I tried to tell them that I had given them all a dose of cough medicine before they got here, but they didn't believe me! ;) )

Then I napped. What a glorious feeling that is!

Took the van into the shop to fix the air conditioning. An absolute fortune!!! Makes me want to buy a horse. You know, I could live without airconditioning if it were a car, but its a van and you can't open enough windows to provide proper ventillation for the boys riding in the back. Good thing I've gone back to work a couple of days a week.

Food

two pieces of whole wheat toast with a thin layer of peanut butter
water

McDonald's cobb salad with crispy chicken
water
(and only 3 or 4 of the boys' french fries) (Just have to comment that I still struggle with not eating their "leftovers," but it is getting easier.)

1/8 of a turkey pot pie (I made it with mixed veggies, cream of mushroom soup, turkey, and a bisquick crust for the top.)
orange slices
apple slices
string cheese
water

1/2 a brownie eaten while scrapbooking (I saw the squares she was giving the kids and I knew that if that was on my plate I would eat it, so I asked her to give me half. It seems much easier to resist food if it isn't on my plate.)
diet cherry coke

No exercise today. (Making up for yesterday, aren't I, Newbride?!)

Gotta go to bed. I'm going to take the boys down to Susan's house tomorrow. They'll love playing with her kids. And I'll love the visiting.

Good morning!
Weight loss this week one pound. I know, not as great as the last two weeks, but still a loss. I'm proud that I've lost 13 pounds so far. I'm worth the work! :p

Yesterday's trip to visit an old friend was a blast. The kids (6 all together) played sooo well together that we sat in the living room and chatted practically all afternoon. We stayed for dinner and her mom came over and made her world famous pot-roast. (I gotta say that her mom's pot roast is one of my all time favorite meals.)

I've got to get the boys (and myself) dressed and off to church, so I'd better hurry with this entry.

Food
2 mini bagels with low-fat cream cheese
water

diet coke with lime

peanut butter and jelly sandwich
pretzels
diet, caffiene free iced tea

popcorn
Kahula chocolate (1)
more tea

pot roast
noodles (small portion, so I could rationalize another slice of meat)
fresh green beans
orange sherbet
iced tea

water
popcorn

Pretty crummy eating for the day, really. But I guess it could have been much worse. I watched my portions, which was a good thing.

Off to get three little boys dressed!

You betcha, Rosered! One pound is one pound closer to the new me!

I woke up this morning to Aaron begging me to call my friend back and tell her that she has to bring her kids and come over today. He also had a list of all the toys her son was to bring for Aaron to play with. :)

We spent the afternoon watching "Family Man" (Nicholas Cage) and Gilligan's Island. The kids napped during the movie and then they watched two episodes of the Gilligan's Islands with us. I love low-key Sundays. :p

Of course, it doesn't always feel so "low-key" when the movies end with romping and tickling sessions. And then the older boys painted with their Christmas paints and Sam ate a crayon while turning the pages in a coloring book.

I was thinking that I have been doing this (diet, exercise, journal) for three weeks now. Doesn't it take 21 days to "change" a habit? I am on my way to establishing better habits for myself!

Food
breakfast bar (Special K with strawberries)
water

string cheese

1/8 of a homemade turkey potpie
yogurt with oreo stir ins
water
and about 5 mouthfuls of leftover macaroni and cheese

goldfish crackers
diet coke with lime

3/4 cup pasta
4 homemade meatballs and sauce
salad (lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheddar, balsamic vinegar dressing)
sangria

water, water, water

Exercise
two mile walk

Tonight I was reading to David before bed and we were getting ready to do prayers. Without prompting he says, "Thank you, Father, for Jesus' toys and Christmas. Amen." They are sooo honest!

Congrats !!!!!!!! Hey anything in the down wardmotion on the scale is an accomplishment!!!!
Tell me if you find this as well,...when reading the web site of the "big losers" and from my own weight loss its like the body has a big weightloss for a week or two and then has a rest period and not as big of a loss, and then has another bigger loss. You may not change what you are doing from week to week but how your body reacts is different.

Funny you mention that, Jennifer. I was thinking that perhaps I would see a bigger loss next week. I'm sure it all "evens out." I also feel that my body is adjusting to my new lifestyle and I'm probably done with the big losses of water. I'm probably going down the road of "slow and steady wins the race" now.

Stealing away with some computer time! The children are watching Beauty and the Beast and playing with a basket of balls... I must have at least two minutes to surf the net!!!

Food

2 pieces of toast
2 eggs
slice of cheese
water

Ah, a few minutes to think about my day. I'm learning that I really like this journalling thing. It makes me take a few moments and think about the day. Unblur, if you will.

A friend has strep so I had her kids all afternoon. They, for the most part, played well with my boys. The only "glitch" and it wasn't really a "glitch," her older child is a daughter, about 8. So, not only is she a girl, who tires of Rescue Heros and train sets, but she's older and would rather do something with me. But I have so much to do, unless she wants to fold laundry or make peanut butter and jellies... Anyway, the kids really did get along fine. Sometimes I think it easier to have kids over for my kids to play with, because my kids don't want much from me when they have guests.

The other lesson I learned today is that when you have five children eating, you don't eat. By the time I got all their plates to the table the first kid was asking for seconds and a refill!

The other event of the day was a good friend of mine is pregnant (8weeks) with her fourth baby. She went today to the doctor and the midwife put on the ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. A few hours later she went for another ultrasound at a different location. The heartbeat was 173. Phew.

I love her, she is simply my best friend, and I didn't want anything to happen to her or that baby. I just had a miscarriage 2 months ago (November 18th, 16 weeks along) and I really didn't want to walk down that road. After talking to her after the first ultrasound I just bawled and prayed. Then she called with the good news and I still bawled and prayed. I'm still "too raw" I guess. But I truly am happy for her. Obviously the baby is a red-headed boy to be this much trouble already!

Anyway, the point of all this... I used to turn to food to calm my nerves and with all the hectic-ness the day had to offer, I didn't need several trips to the fridge or pantry. I did log on here a few times, but I didn't turn to a chocolate or a few chips. Things are different!

Food
an orange juilius (homemade version) I added strawberries and a banana
water

open-faced, toasted turkey, swiss and tomato sandwich
potato soup
diet cherry coke
water

Exercise
I know it is late, but I plan to be wrapping up my evening with a two mile walk.

"Power walk, power walk,"

Forgot to say,
Thanks for all your words of encouragement! It really does brighten my day and make the "rough parts" of the day more tolerable!

On the go today! Had to take Sam to the back-up sitter because his regular sitter has strep. Then I taught all day, did some errands after school,* brought the boys home, made supper, cleaned kitchen, went back to school for "Dad's Night" (as the teacher, not "Dad" ;) ), brought the boys home, tucked them in, watched a little tv with hubby, walked two miles. You know, the usual!!!

Food

decaf, sugar free French vanilla coffee
Special K breakfast bar (strawberry)

strawberry cottage cheese doubles
water

potato soup
strawberries
water

100 cal pack of oreo crisps
diet cherry coke

2 pieces of garlic herb fish
cheesy rice
cauliflower sprinkled with breadcrumbs
water

water
decaf, sugar free French vanilla coffee with a shot of Bailey's Irish Creme ;)
water

Exercise
2 mile walk

* I went to Target and Michael's this afternoon to get a few things for my classroom. I was looking for those foamie hearts and letters that you can peel and stick. I thought the dads could use them on the Valentine's Day cards that they were helping their kids make this evening. While I was out I noticed something. I really like "rewarding" myself when I go out to the store. I remember telling my brother this years ago, so I know this about myself, but I guess it is amazing how strong the urge is to buy a chocolate bar or soda. I did wind up getting a pack of sugar free gum and a scrapbooking magazine, but it took direct effort to turn down all the candy, especially the Valentine chocolates (my favorite!).

Off to the showers and then I'm going to lounge in bed with my magazine!

I love reading about your diet, exercise, successes, and life. Let me tell you, those kids of yours sound adorable! :) Keep it up girl! You rock!

Ok. So I'm in the kitchen making peanut butter and jellies and the kids are at the table eating yogurts. I walk back in the kitchen and notice that Yeti (the cat) is eating something right in my path to the kitchen and very close to his bowl. So I look down and he moves a bit, ever so carefully, so I can see his prize. There beneath him is an upside down lizard. I can only see the underside of his head beneath him and from the side I can see the lizard tail between Yeti's elbows. EEK! I'm thinking I'm gonna die. Ugh!!!

Why was I given three boys? I'm sure there is a reason why all three of them wanted to watch the cat eat the lizard, but I don't know why. I just wanted to dry heave in the kitchen. I warned the boys that if they got off their chairs the cat would get spooked and run. My biggest fear was that Yeti would dart and leave half of his "lunch" on the carpet for me to contend with.

Go figure. The cat won't eat spiders, ants or any of the bits of fruit cocktail that Sam threw on the rug, but he'll eat a lizard!!!

Well, currently all three boys are eating lunch and discussing lizards at the same time. (Althoug, David did take a bit of convincing. He was sure there was lizard in his lunch!)

And my best guess is that "Lizard Breath" is probably under the bed having a little "after lunch" bath while picking lizard tail out of his teeth.

Food (if I could think about food at a time like this...)
1 cup of rice crispies with 3 strawberries and milk
water

1 cup pasta
3 meatballs and sauce
1/2 a large orange
3 vinegar and salt chips swiped from the bag while serving the kidlets
water
diet cherry coke

I'm thinking a nap would be nice, but maybe the better choice would be to do my walk this afternoon.

Oh my, I couldn't help but sit here and laugh while I'm at work reading your post. LOL Lizard breath! LOL What a cat, who knew. LOL! Poor kid thought he was going to eat a lizard. LOL! You must be a strong woman. :)

Thanks, Coastergirl! My little boys are adorable! (And I usually follow this comment by saying, "And that's why we haven't killed 'em yet!) ;) No, really, I do love my boys. They make my life unlike any thing I ever imagined!

Coastergirl, I just thought of a story about my three year old son, David. Last week when we went to McDonald's we were just sitting at the table when David patted the table and said, "Why are we sitting at this little table?" And I responded, "Because it is for your little butt." He then said, "...and your big butt?"

Luckily my selfworth is not wrapped up in their comments!!!

We went to community night at church tonight. I forgot they were serving spaghetti (not my favorite food when it is made for a crowd- usually the sauce is burnt and the noodles are mushy, but this was very good- firm noodles and a lovely sauce) or I would have had something else for lunch. Then again, I love pasta and pasta sauce, so maybe I would have had it twice. I went to the book club after dinner (kids in nursery and hubby teaching a church history class). A small group of ladies and the book is about giving (The Treasure Principal). I really am a "groupie" and these ladies seemed very nice. I think I'll get reading the book tonight.

Food

3 globs of cookie dough
1/4 cup pecans
eaten while making cookies with boys (next time I should put a stick of gum in my mouth!!!)

two chocolate chip cookies
3 gulps of milk
water

spaghetti and meat sauce
1/2 bread stick
salad
1/2 cup lemonade
grapes and strawberries
water, water, water

Exercise
2 mile walk

Gotta go. For some reason my hands are really hurting (carpal tunnel?) and I need to turn this thing off (typing is very painful for my right hand) and get some ibuprofen.
