Hey hey!
I can understand how you feel about the whole weights and HIIT thing. Now I read the HIIT thing steve wrote as well, and I'm no where near ready for that. However, I do use weights 3x per week. And ya know what, it is hard, but the next day when you're moving around and you can feel it in your muscles that you did a good weight workout, it feels absolutely awesome! Sure doing cardio is great (I do cardio also) but doing the weights is just as important. Think of it in this way if anything... the more muscle you have the more calories you burn period! So if you build some muscle, you'll burn more cal's in general. And not only that, you'll get fitter and you'll look a lot better. Sure we all want to lose weight on here, but I sure as hell don't want the 'skinny-fat' look. I mean, if we're putting all this effort into losing weight, shouldn't we get the best results possible?
Now, if someone wasn't ready for weights, I wouldn't want to push it on them, however you said yourself that you may have peaked on your aerobic workouts. I don't think you have to do HIIT do get the results you want, but I definately think strength training is essential in weight loss.
You should just try it, start off light and then build up. You'll see that's it not so bad as it seems. I actually like the weights a hell of a lot more than cardio. It doesn't get boring like a long cardio session, and it definately feels like it's doing something! I don't think it hurts, but it is challenging... in a good way though! So, give it a shot, you might end up liking it. And besides, you body will look all that much better once the weight comes off!
