2011's Adventure for a 5'3 girl hoping for 125 :)

Around January I was one of the millions who decided to lose weight and get healthy. I started p90x Classic and it was rough. I think my mantra that month was “Can I do it???” Sweat would be plastered on my face while my limbs cried out in defeat but I kept going. At one point I looked at my fiancé and told him I was quitting. He said okay. He has learned not to really comment just to accept since I am my biggest critic anyways. I kept going. I had to remind myself if not now then when? I won't magically come up with more hours in a day.

When we got into an argument and finally hashed it out 4 hours later I still worked out that night. I worked out when I was tired because I had to be honest with myself and give myself ground rules. If I was too tired it meant I was asleep. If I was surfing on the internet or watching tv then that wasn’t tired enough. I did what I could and was satisfied with that. If I am ever too tired I literally fall asleep when I get home then that’s too tired and that’s okay if I go to sleep without working out that night.

I didn’t diet the first month. I focused on simply staying alive lol I indulged in some pizza and some 4x4 german chocolate brownies provided by my local grocery store. I weighed myself and kept assuring myself that surely something was happening and no one who dieted and exercised for a long time ever experienced nothing. I concentrated on other things I could easily improve. I began taking fish oil for my hair, I got a new jacket since my size won’t change too much, I got new makeup and mostly I began to feel better about myself.

This is month 2 and my mantra this month is “I can do it!!!”. I have limited my carbs to under 100. I sort of follow the primal blueprint which was created by Mark Sisson. I don’t completely do it because I think I can find a nice balance. I drink coffee before 5 pm if I need it and I only put milk in it. I drink water the rest of the day. I don’t drink juice because I feel like there’s too much sugar. I eat flourless bread from Trader’s Joes with their raw almond butter and their strawberry jelly which is reduced sugar. If I cook I try to cook with olive oil or coconut oil.

January Beginning Weight 160-163
Start of Feb weight 153
My Goal is 125-130 and to maintain it.

This journal is hopefully to keep me inspired so I can look back on page 1 when I feel like being lazy and remind myself how hard I am working and how much I want it :sifone:

Hello there!

You're off to a good start! Are you counting calories or keeping a food diary? Or have you just cut back on carbs, juices and junk food? :seeya:

Hello there!

You're off to a good start! Are you counting calories or keeping a food diary? Or have you just cut back on carbs, juices and junk food? :seeya:

Thanks :) I will probably try to write down what I eat on this but I won't use the online calculator. I have cut back completely on junk food just because I don't crave it right now so I don't want to start my slippery slope back to sadness. If I want some chocolate then I wait about a day or 2 and if I still want it then I will go and get 1 thing of twix rather then the bag I used to consume :blush5: I love me some twix lol

If I get hungry I will eat because I literally cannot get past my hunger but sometimes I drink lots of water and wait if I feel like it could just be thirst. If I am still hungry though I usually cook something or eat what has been cooked. We limit our eating out to once a week and we have switched from the drive thru to sit down places.

I did completely cut out all juice. Most of them are really sweet so I would rather make my own juice or avoid it altogether.

Today my fiance is making spaghetti so I have been eating no carbs. I will probably go over 100 carbs which is fine but I will only have 1 portion and if I get hungry later it will have to be a no carb deal.

Once I get to my goal weight I will probably up the carbs because I will want to maintain and I really like Almond butter and jelly sandwiches :)

Food Consumed
Bowl of peanut chicken
Bowl of taco salad (taco meat, eggs, lettuce)
Snacked on Carrot sticks
Later Bowl of spaghetti with some bread

Drinks
1 cup of coffee
Loads of Ice water

Workout today Beginning Week 2 of Phase 2
Chest, Shoulders and Triceps, Ab Ripper X

Sounds like you are working hard and your first entry is really inspirational. It made me feel like I can really do it too.
Perhaps after my 30 day challenge I will try p90x myself. I heard it is really awesome. It sounds hard tho. At this point I don't think I am in good enough shape to do it. I tried a couple of the videos before and I could barely keep up.

Thanks and you can do it! Let me tell you it took me months to finally get going! I would stop after a couple of days and go back to whatever I was doing but I kept feeling so sad about the whole thing. I think the January spirit really helped me and I think other peoples inspiration helped me after the January rush went away.

After a month its so much easier to just accept that I will work out when 7pm rolls around. I drop whatever I am doing and just go do it.

p90x is hard for everyone! I even read an article that Pink who works out a lot got completely surprised at how hard p90x is. The beautiful thing is that you can point some background music on and just follow it. I do not do every exercise to the fullest still but I still do what I can do. Lemme tell you the results are amazing me.. I really didn't think it would do that much but this 2nd month I am starting to see the change a lot more. I got my copy from my sister who quit after a while so it was free

Food today:
Taco meat/lettuce and eggs
Later will be more spaghetti and that's all for today
---I forgot food at home and I get nervous eating strange food at work because my stomach can be sensitive so no lunch and I never eat breakfast. I don't ever force myself to eat because it makes me want to throw up.

Exercise
Plyometrics

I AM TIRED!! :ack2: I haven't done plyo yet but I'm not looking forward to it.. oh well... I'm putting my effort into making this summer a summer of skinny :seeya:

I guess that the key eh? Doing what as much as you can do, pushing through and sticking with it.

keep up the awesome work?
I have a question If you ate some fruit like a banana for breakfast would you get sick?

Oops at my typo lol. Yes I definitely think that is the key! Just keep doing something you sweat doing and do it often. :)

I just spent 9 months watching the scale go up and if I had just done something literally anything I could still fit into my favorite jeans :cuss:

I feel like it would be a good way to break a plateau though. I think people get into their normal exercises and then their bodies don't care anymore.

Sometimes though you spend too much doing nothing when you go the gym.. like sometimes I would come home having a dry shirt and I knew that wasn't a good gym session but i paid for it :banghead: This usually happened because people were just too chatty so we couldn't move to the next sequence without my heart rate going down and my annoyance going up.

I know how you feel. That's how I gained all my weight after I lost it, I just didn't do anything at all and it just accumulating back up.

I just wake up too early then I am off. I will bring carrots but this particular morning I just forgot to. I don't really feel that crazy hunger where I would rather just buy a meal then not eat. When I start eating lots of carb I definitely feel that hunger but since I'm limiting the carbs it doesn't seem to get as ugly.

I know some people do the eat every 2 hours thing and that isn't personally something I am into. I just eat when I want to/find convenient. I only eat out when I eat with other people. I guess that's kind of odd but oh wells lol

7:30! That's sooo early lol I usually like to start snacking around 10 so by 12-2 I am ready for something more substantial.

When do you go to sleep then? I usually eat around 7pm so I'm not hungry when i go to sleep because I toss and turn until I finally get up and have something small.

i sleep about 1030 or 11 pm get up like 630 am

That sounds like such a long day :(

I need sleep!!! So tired! I also realized I have my schedule completely messed up. I eat after 8 and I workout at 7. Lately I have been staying up til 12 to finish any undone things and I wake up sometime between 7-8 depending on if I have work or classes.

I do not look forward to working out but it's now a tolerable requirement of the day. I get through it feel great after ward's and then I move on. As far as food limiting my carbs to under 100 has just meant I have to spend about 10 minutes preparing instead of my 2 minutes making a sandwich but it's not taxing. We have cantaloupe and I have been having a tiny amount but for me fruit=sugar so I limit it.

My outlook about things are very positive. It's amazing what a contrast that is from month 1. Someone asked me if I was afraid about bulking up and I told them not really because without specializing your diet and thinking about hormone stuff then I wouldn't look huge or anything. I would rather have muscle to burn the fat anyways.

Eating
Frittata (eggs, kale, peppers, garlic,,,,deliciousness)
Snacked on Carrots
Spaghetti
Pork w/olive oil random seasonings (rosemary, thyme etc) and some cauliflower rice

Drinks
Coffee w/skim milk
Water

Exercise
Back and Biceps, Ab Ripper X

I am keeping on keeping on :waving: Bring it on June! I'm getting prepared :cheers2:

Congrats telly. You should be proud of yourself. You stuck it out the first month, and that is a really important step. I bet you are really proud of yourself. You lost 10 pounds! That is awesome!

Aww. Its so true that we are our worst critics sometimes. The answer really lies within us. Its up to us to face ourselves and really determine what is worth fighting for. I'm glad that you didn't give up and kept going. Congrats. :)

Hey Tally,

You're doing great. I'm inspired and proud of you. :)

"I forgot food at home and I get nervous eating strange food at work because my stomach can be sensitive so no lunch and I never eat breakfast. I don't ever force myself to eat because it makes me want to throw up."

Yikes tally, try to at least eat something small in the morning. All the experts say that if you don't eat something for breakfast it leads to overeating later in the day. Plus your brain needs the nutrients to function. I don't like to eat a lot either, so I usually make myself a wee protein drink.

I was thinking just to bring something to work and then leave it at my desk. I figure maybe some carrots lol Just something that won't get completely disgusting if I accidentally leave it there a day or 2.

Another 2 1/2 weeks til I get done with phase 2 and I thought I should probably write that I do weigh myself however I do it a tad differently then other people. I weigh myself 3-4 times a week at completely random times and I remember the lowest number. If I have gained a bit I can simply say to myself its probably the meal I ate or maybe I have too much water in me at the moment. This helps with the general annoyance that I would get if I were to weigh myself at the same time everyday. It's also more encouraging because I focus on the lowest weight. I do not write it down and I don't bother remembering the time or day that I did it.

Then on my 60th day I will wake up and step on the scale (ignoring if I found a smaller number earlier in the week) and I count that as day 60 weight. I told some people I was doing p90x and they all just groaned.. LOL love it!

Food
Eggs
Carrot snacks
Later Spiced Pork with cauliflower rice
Then probably a AB(Almond Butter)&J sandwich

Drinks
Coffee w/skim milk
Water

Exercise
Yoga X

I started eating some Quinoa yesterday... I think so I added that in. I have added 2/3 cup of it to 1 of my meals so that I am getting super healthy carbs! Other then that my food has been eggs/meat/vegetables. There is no fruit to eat and I have been keeping my carb down to around 100.

Did legs and back/ab ripper x yesterday. :)

I have noticed some big changes this past week. During Plyo I was able to move around a lot in the breaks and even at the end I had enough energy to really put a lot of effort into the bonus round. It isn't easier but I seem to be getting better at it. I also added push ups during the yoga X. I think my intensity has been revved up which is always nice to feel.

I will probably have to take a picture/official weigh in soon though.

I don't have many pics of me in the 140's and I'm not sure that if I wait 2 week that I will get any. I am thinking I will be somewhere around the upper 130's or the lower 140's in 2 weeks.

That is of course if I don't go crazy on eating or stop exercising but OMG how could I stop??

Motivation is strong now and I am completely committed to staying strong for as long as I can. I hope to read these entries during less motivating times and then find the willpower to get up and go be active!

I now have 5 pairs of pants I can fit into!! Before it was only 2. I can't wear my favorite jeans still but I can pull them all the way up and technically I could button them but it looks far too tight for my liking. I am getting super EXCITED!!!!!!

Happy Valentines!! Fiance was awesome and got me flowers and some balloons and no chocolate :) He is toning up super nicely on p90x. He started skinny so he's just buffing up a bit. He is looking very fit with his shirt off lately lol :beating:

Food (Not exact but this is what I plan to/have eaten for today)
eggs
mixed veggies
pork w/herbs
Bbq beef
2/3 cup of quinoa

Drinks
Coffee w/skim milk
Water

Exercise
Kenpo

I wish I had kept this journal during the first month because then I could read how sad/annoyed I was and read the complete turnaround in attitude. :seeya:
