Hey folks...I'm a new guy here, and like everyone else, I'm on quest to lose weight, look better, etc...

After about 6 months of very little exercise, eating too much and too much bad stuff and drinking like a fish, I'm getting back to my living well ways...

This week, I did a quick weight workout on Monday night, I did road bike rides on Tuesday & Wednesday for about 1hr 20min each ride and will do the same tonight. I may do weights instead on Friday, and ride again Saturday and Sunday.

This week I've been eating ok. I've had pasta for lunch three times this week and for dinner once this week. As far as weight loss and the glycemic index are concerned, pasta isn't the best choice. Other than that, I had a few sips of beer this week, but no other booze (a change for this kid)...

I weighed in at 216 this morning...30lbs to go....I was around 230 earlier in the year...

Food I ate today:

Breakfast - egg whites, baked beans and 1 slice of 12 grain bread with a little Becel
Morning snack - banana & some plain almods
Lunch - Lasagna (meat & vegetable) with a baby greens salad & dressing
Afternoon snack - snack bag of baby carrots and some cottage cheese
Late afternoon - probably an apple before I do my after work bike ride

Sounds like you are off to a really good start. Good luck with everything, I have the pasta problem too... its just kind of a staple in my diet, but if eaten in moderation, its definatly better than a lot of other junk.

Yeah, the problem is keeping it up. I'll likely go nuts with the working out for the next month or so, then it'll start to dwindle a little. I always have a hard time keeping the motivation up over the long term.

And I had pasta for dinner tonight too (with a nice big salad). Damn. I got back from my ride and I was pretty hungry, so the leftovers went into the microwave. Ah well. And a couple of cookies with milk for desert (my first cheat of the week and it's Thursday, so it's a pretty good week so far).

You should try brown rice pasta. Ok, it doesn't quite taste as good as regular pasta, but its not bad at all. Its tastes way better than the whole wheat pasta (IMHO) and is much lower on the Glycemic Index. It is more expensive, but give it a try and tell me what you think.

 So far, I've had a pretty good week. I've worked out Mon-Thurs, with a short weight workout and about 4 hours of road miles on the bike. Still eating too much pasta this week, but otherwise I'm eating ok. My first treat of the week was 3 small cookies after dinner last night, but for me, that's very good.

Unfortunately, tonight is poker night, and that usually means lots of beer and hors d'ouvres too. Maybe I'll just have water tonight...who am I kidding...I can't not have beer when everyone else is having some too! Tonight is my cheat night. If I can keep it to one night a week, I think I'll do ok.

Well, I have big plans of another 3-4 hours on the bike this weekend, and hopefully some good food choices.

Sounds like you've been doing good! I have a chicken alfredo lean cuisine for lunch a lot. They are soooooo good! Another thing that I really like is spaghetti squash with a little marinara on top. I know it dosen't sound as good. But, dont knock it til you try it! I usually have that with 4 oz of chicken breast. Delicious :) Tonight is my cheat night (i let myself drink) on fridays. I LOVE BEER!!! I have switched over to vodka and diet sprite...or vodka and crystal light (raspberry lemonade) is the best. I have 3 drinks and Im done for. You consume less sooo less calories. Still dosen't replace that craving for a beer though :( Anyway..have a great weekend..and kick ass on that bike!!

A girl that loves beer! You rock!

I've tried spaghetti squash once and I thought it was pretty good. How do you cook it? I may have to try it this weekend. With some marinara and chicken breast that sounds pretty yummy!

I really like some of the frozen pasta too, but I find I need to eat two plus a salad or I'm still starving. They are really handy though, aren't they!

Hi 12packabs!

Good luck with your weight loss journey. I see you get lots of exercise. I like beer too, especially Shiner - still tastes good if it's not ice cold. I only like the lite beers ice cold. I've done like idohair02 and switched to vodka and diet drinks (ido - try diet cherry limeade - 10 cal to a can, from minutemaid, no bubbles, tastes like cherry limeade from sonic). I mix 2-3 cans in a quart container, add the vodka I want, and know exactly how many calories i'm consuming.

Nice pic of u 12, by the way.

U didn't ask my advice, but here it is! Tonight try ordering a beer, then a glass of water, then a beer, etc. Hopefully your friends won't give you grief! I find when I'm out in the evening that sometimes I just drink without even tasting it. This way means fewer calories, less drunk, still fun night.

BEER!!!!!!!! Where??? :D It is all about CORONA:p My personal favorite.

But that is not why I am posting:eek: You are doing a Great job and staying focus. Go ahead and treat yourself to a fun night. Then on Saturday get right back to the program. I love Pasta as well and as long as you control how much you eat then you'll do alright.

Have a GREAT night and drink a Beer for me!!! J/K
Drink your WATER first:D

Awww shucks...you're making me blush Patty....

That's a pretty good plan - the beer then water thing.

I came to a decision this afternoon that I'm going to have no more than TWO beers per week. At least that's what I told myself. I find that having one just gets me warmed up, I just have to cool it. So tonight I'm going to slowly enjoy two beers and then have water afterwards.

My favorite beer in the whole world is Kilkenny. It's an Irish cream ale that's reddish and has a massive creamy head on it. I'm drooling just thinking about it.....I guess those baby carrots and cottage cheese I had for a snack didn't quite hit the spot...

Well Jelly, I'll have one for you and one for me and that's it (I hope)...

The last three weeks, I've had parties & a wedding and easily had 12 drinks each time...yikes...that's a lot of calories...

Hmmm, brown rice pasta dosen't sound too bad, I may have to check it out.
Good luck tonight, I know I always seem to find a reason for just one more when I am out with friends...

Get some of the pasta and try it - trust me! It's decent. It cooks a little softer than regular pasta, but once you put some sauce on it, its fine.

Luckily I'm not out with buddies tonight or I'd be a gonner. It's my in-laws' group of friends that I play with, so there aren't any heavy drinkers. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I had a friend back in highschool who was a pretty big guy and he always used to tell me that he had a 12 pack... it was just inside a cooler.

Your name makes me think of that everytime... sorry, random

I used to say the same thing...sometimes I'd say I had a six pack...in the cooler...

These days I'm wearing more of a keg I think...

im in the same boat, taking it off is usually the easier part, it is a lifestyle change and a hard one to commit too.

best of luck man!

Food for today:

Breakfast - Bowl of Bran Flakes and All Bran Buds (1/2 and 1/2) with 1% milk
Morning snack - banana & some plain almods
Lunch - Lasagna (meat & vegetable) with a baby greens salad & dressing
Afternoon snack - snack bag of baby carrots and some cottage cheese
Dinner - I think I'm having pasta again (I haven't had this much pasta in the same week in about 6 or 7 years.

We had some family over for dinner and I made pasta & sauce. Then my in-laws made some lasagna and had tons of leftovers. So I've been eating both leftovers all week for lunch and dinner. Good think I'm having a good exercise week!

Wow. I played poker last night and I stuck to my 2 beer limit. I'm quite pleased with that. So no more beer for me this week as the goal is to limit it to 2 per week. That should be worth a pound a week right there!

Unfortunately it's raining where I am, so my morning 2hr bike ride is postponed. Hopefully the weather improves this afternoon, 'cause I'd rather not ride in the rain.

6 week challenge starts Monday - looking forward to it.
