12packAbs Diary

Hey thanks everyone...I don't think the one tiny hot dog will do me in....I just feel weak for giving in...but like I always say...Everything in Moderation...I have found that if I don't give in to cravings once in a while, then I tend to get overwhelming cravings and BINGE! Just have one more good day to go, then I can have a cheat night on Friday.

And MJB...if I do ever get those abs...I'll send you a life size poster by courier! Hahaha...I have tried to get there before...but never got there...so now I'm stuck with my ONE big flabby ab! LOL

Mike - the Clif Bars are actually pretty good. I used to eat PowerBars...but now either one will do fine. I actuallly save the gels for races...they a much quicker energy source than the bars, as there is much less to digest. Give a bar a try on your rides - I think it will give you a little more sustained energy than the gels.

Food today
Breakfast: Egg whites, baked beans and a slice of whole grain bread with a little Becel
Snack: Banana and a handful of plain raw almonds
Lunch: Turkey breast on whole grain bread, 1/2 of my bean salad
Snack: Remainder of my bean salad, baby carrots, cottage cheese
Dinner: Chicken breast (1 1/2), basmati rice, a little bit of corn and a good sized salad (baby greens with low fat balsamic vinaigrette)

Today was a day off from biking for me (Sat-Tues was 4 days in a row)...so I thought I'd do some weights today. I did some Deadlifts (5 sets of 12) and now I'm done for the night...Man those things are hard to do...at least they're easier than the last time I tried them a while back...maybe I'm getting into shape again.

LMAO! You're too funny. I'll hold you to that, I want a life size poster!! You look handsome from what I can tell from your little avatar. You'll get there, I can tell by your discipline. Yeah for 12pack abs! I've only managed to get a 4 pack, but I was happy with that when I had it. I know it's still in there somewhere. haha

Have a good day!

Awww shucks MJB...you're making me blush....

And it's a deal. Life size poster it is...LOL...So tell me MJB...how amazing was that to see your abs? And do I get to see a picture when you get them again?

Today was a decent day except for a bad snack in the evening...

Breakfast: Egg whites, baked beans, slice of 12 grain bread with a little Becel
Snack: Peach, handful of raw plain almonds
Lunch: Tuscan bean soup and a peach
Snack: Baby carrots and cottage cheese
Snack: Small can of tuna and 5 reduced fat crackers
Just before ride: 1/2 Cliff Bar
Ride: 1hr 20min
Dinner: Beef tenderloin, basmati rice, large salad of baby greens, broccoli & cucumber
Snack: Doritos with playing poker

I guess if a hot dog won't kill me, then some Doritos won't either...ah well...

Hiya 12pack, I hope you had a great weekend.

Read your wife rides horses. Lucky her. I'd love to be able to do that.

Copied down one of your daily food diary entries. I like how a lot of it sounds, things I'll eat and easy to fix. The baked beans sound weird but great for breakfast. I love them. High in fiber, iron and protein, low in fat.

What's in your bean salad?

Keep riding.

Yeah, you everyone looks at me funny when I tell them I have baked beans, eggs and toast for breakfast. Then when I was in the UK, I saw it on a breakfast menu! Here I thought I was being a pioneer....

I usually do one of two things:
1) Buy a can of mixed beans (not a bean salad with dressing, just plain mixed beans) and add a dressing. I normally do my own dressing with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt & pepper and some oregano. Otherwise I bought some reduced-calorie Italian dressing and just have that. It's all pretty quick. 1 can of beans, rinse well, toss into a container with dressing and take it to work.

2) Sometimes I make a big batch of salad. I use cans of black beans, lentils, red kidney beans, chick peas and yellow waxed beans (or any combination I'm in the mood for)...I try to add a crunchy vegetable into the salad to give it a nicer texture (like chopped carrots, broccoli, red peppers) and I usually do the olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing.

I eat a lot of beans....they're quick, they're cheap, lots of fibre, some protein and I like 'em...

Well, not a great past few days of eating for me....

Saturday started off ok, but then I was bbq'ing for an open house party...2 hot dogs, 2 hamburgers, 2 cans of coke, pizza for dinner, some crackers & cheese, a scotch and 2 beers....yikes.....I got out for a 1hr mountain bike ride in the morning.....but it all went downhill in the afternoon...

Sunday wasn't too bad I think.....I got out for a 2.5hr road ride....got lost....got caught in the rain....but a good ride nonetheless...I also did a shoulder weights workout...15 sets, so lots of exercise for the day

Then Monday night a 2hr karate class...I was drenched at the end of it...and we went out for a celebratory drink....3 pints later....then I got home and was starving....bad move.....Doritos, crackers & cheese and chocolate chip cookies....yikes....

Today, running out of food for breakfast, so it was egg whites and some leftover basmati rice
snack: Peach and some plain almonds
Lunch: big slice of pizza
Snack: apple
Dinner: probably pasta

I will probably do a weight workout tonight, and another karate class tomorrow night...

Aaaah cokes. The regular stuff. Fully leaded. Made my mouth water reading your diary entry! And certainly was responsible for many of the pounds I've battled. I LOVE coca cola. That to me is like a beer to some people. The sound when you pop it open.... And don't get me started on Doritos.

Ok so that's not helping. I think it's great you wrote everything down here that you ate/drank over the weekend. It's hard to do that sometimes.

I hope you have a successful week. Get to the store and restock!!!!

The problem started when we had 4 extra kids stay with us....and being the good host that I am (maybe not a good influence at that point), I stocked up on some junk food...unfortunately if I have it in the house, I end up eating it. Very poor willpower if it's in the house.

My tip of the day: Don't buy any junkfood. Give it all away to your friends.

OMG! I am the same way, if I buy it I will not stop until I've eaten it all. It's like it calls me!! So I don't even buy the stuff. If I want a piece of chocolate I'll get an individual piece at the convenience store down the street. If I buy a pack of chocolate chips cookies they'll be gone before night fall.

I keep lots of fruit in the fridge and when I have those cravings to "just eat" I go for the grapes, peaches, etc. I wish I had willpower...but I just don't.:(

so what's the deal 12pack? you going to be focusing on karate or cycling?

As for the junk food, I agree, it's friggin tough when it's in the house. So far I've managed to be pretty good about whats been going into my gut.

overall you seem to be well on your way. A bad day or two is no big deal

Well....so far it's looking like karate for this kid...with some cycling once or twice a week...I kept going back and forth, but I think that for now, this is the right decision for me. As soon as the time changes in the fall, my weekday rides are pretty much over and that just leaves the weekend, so I have a pretty hard time keeping it up after that.

I'm really enjoying it so far and getting amazing workouts. I've always found it tough to stay motivated for cycling over the winter...although I'd get out for occaisional rides, being on the trainer 4 days a week is tough.

I'll still ride, I always will. And I think with the way I'm going, with 2hr gruelling classes, I'll be in pretty amazing shape by the spring, and then I'll bike more in the spring and summer, and maybe get back to doing some races. It's a tough thing for me to decide...but I think this way, I can still do both.

Yesterday I really didn't eat much (compared to my usual days)

Breakfast: 2 slices of 7 grain bread with a little Becel
Snack: peach and a few plain raw almonds
Lunch: Big slice of pizza (for the second day in a row)
Snack: 1/2 an apple and some pretzles
Snack before class: Cheese bagel
Snack at about 10:30: small can of tuna and 5 Breton light crackers

Grat job 12Pack.

You're a definate motivator for me. I love to down the beers, so I've really enjoyed your diary. I also completely agree, when I finally decided I'd had enough, I through away pretty much every item in the fridge and cabinets. If I have junky items around, or course I'm gonna eat them. Keep up the great work, I might even try some beans for breakfast.

So... I was so proud of myself when I threw out all the chips in my house. Well my husband went shopping and guess what he did?! He stocked up on all kinds of chips. Said we were out.

I guess he didn't get the memo.
